Pamoja Child Foundation Strategic Manager Job in Kisumu Kenya


Pamoja Child Foundation is a Community Based Organization working in Awasi and Nyang’oma locations within Nyando and Muhuroni districts in Kisumu County. 
The organization focuses on orphaned and vulnerable children in assisting these children to fulfill their rights to education, health, protection and improved livelihoods in the community. 
To achieve its mission, Pamoja offers individual sponsorship, creates safe havens in primary schools and strengthens community groups in their aim to be self reliant. 
Pamoja works from a child rights perspective and collaborates with other NGO’s, government, local administration and communities to achieve its mission. 
The organization has a modest annual budget and 4 staff members.

Pamoja Child Foundation is looking for a: Strategic Manager – with focus on M&E and fundraising (40 hours a week)

The Strategic Manager determines the best ways to work towards the organization’s mission and vision and on how to achieve its objectives. He/she develops a multi -year Strategic Plan for the organization, translated in Annual Plans in which is stipulated which interventions are planned, how these will be monitored and which resources are required to implement these interventions. 
The Monitoring & Evaluation aspects of the job, asks for a person with critical reflection and learning skills and experience in guiding an overall M&E strategy for projects and via partners, plus providing timely and relevant information to project stakeholders & donors. 
The fundraising aspect of the job requires an analytical and resourceful person with excellent writing skills and knowledge of the donor world. 
The incumbent has knowledge of and a proven track record in child rights based approaches.

The successful candidate will be offered a six months contract (with a one month probation period) with further extension based on organizational needs, availability of funds and satisfactory performance.

Key responsibilities
 
The Strategic Manager reports to the Manager Operations and Projects and is responsible for:
  • Defining, implementing and monitoring the Strategic Plan 2013- 2015 for the organisation and its translation to Annual Plans.
  • Writing of Bi Annual and Annual reports; analytical reports on progress – including indications of planned actions and financial statements – on time and to the relevant bodies.
  • Grants management, including fundraising and assessment and choice of CSO/partners to be contracted for implementation.
  • Prepare accurate and timely reports on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis showing progress against set targets.
  • Fundraising and income diversification for the organisation, by writing proposals and project plans.
  • Develop and implement institutional Income Generating activity for the organisation to cover operational costs.
  • Monitoring & Evaluation of all projects, including the design of a participatory M& E system, a baseline survey, defining indicators, performing monitoring & evaluation of all projects within the organisation, with a clear focus on results for children.
  • Develop the overall framework for project M&E, for example, annual project reviews, participatory impact assessments, process monitoring, operations monitoring, participatory evaluations and lessons-learned workshops.
  • Writing reports on all projects, including baseline, progress and evaluation reports.
  • Undertake regular visits to the field to support implementation of M&E and to identify where adaptations might be needed.
  • Establish and maintain good working relations with all project participants and stakeholders – including beneficiaries, relevant government ministries, private sector and NGOs – all parties required to establish a shared vision of the project and achieve objectives.
  • Organise and support relevant exchange visits in ways that foster a joint learning process that identifies how the project could be improved further to achieve impact.
Qualifications, experience and personal skills
 
The ideal candidate must meet the following qualifications:
  • Bachelors Degree in social/ community development/ project management or related field;
  • A minimum of two years proven experience in:
  1. Strategic planning and Fundraising
  2. M&E methods and approaches (including quantitative, qualitative and participatory)
  3. The logical framework approach and other strategic planning approaches
  4. Facilitating learning-oriented analysis sessions of M&E data with multiple stakeholders;
  5. Information analysis and report writing.
  • A solid understanding of development work, with a focus on participatory processes, rights based approach and children’s issues;
  • Familiarity with and a supportive attitude towards processes of strengthening local structures and building local capacities for self-management;
  • Willing to undertake regular field visits and interact with different stakeholders;
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills;
  • Excellent decision- making skills, effective problem- solving and mediation skills;
  • Excellent report writing skills;
  • Proficiency with office computer equipment and software.
  • Analytical skills, critical reflection and learning;
  • Patient and demonstrably well versed in knowledge/skill transfer;
  • Honest, trust worthy and self-driven.
