Under the supervision of Chief Training Section, the incumbent will be required to liaise and coordinate with designated UNSOS / AMISOM Training Coordinators once deployed to translate / interpret a training activity.

 
Responsibilities:
  • Translate from English into French, Kirundi, Kiswahili and vice versa documents covering a broad range of training subjects dealt with by UNSOA for AMISOM Trainees; 
  • Translate from English into French and vice versa documents developed by OSESGL-GL, including for the meetings of the Technical Support Committee; 
  • Provide accurate and complete high quality consecutive and simultaneous interpretation into and or from (vice versa) for the following languages: English, French, Kiswahili and Kirundi as and when the need arises; 
  • May perform other related duties as required
Qualifications:
 
Education: First level university degree is required. A relevant combination of academic qualification and experience is desirable
 
Experience: A minimum of ten (10) year experience in a professional position that involves translation and interpretation. Experience in simultaneous interpretation is preferable
 
Desirable: Able to work effectively in a multicultural environment and under pressure in difficult condition including Mogadishu, Somalia
 
Languages Skills: Fluency in spoken and written: English, French, Kiswahili & Kirundi

Candidates are to be evaluated for placement to a permanent roster of available individuals to be engages from time to time as operational needs require, for periods of service generally not exceeding six (6) continuous months at any one time.

  • drive office vehicle to transport UNSOS staff, authorized personnel and visitors;
  • deliver/collect pouches, mail, documents; 
  • ensure daily maintenance of assigned vehicles including minor repairs arrangements and keep vehicle clean at all times; 
  • ensure vehicle is used in accordance to UN operation procedures; 
  • maintain logbook for daily mileage, fuel consumption, change oil and greasing and passenger names; 
  • ensure availability of required documents /supplies including vehicle insurance, vehicle registration and log book, office directory, maps, first aid kit and spare parts; 
  • other duties as required
Qualifications:
 
Education: High school diploma or equivalent. A clean and valid license
 
Experience: Four (4) year experience as a driver with a clean and safe driving record
 
Languages Skills: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations for the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required

II. Organizational Context and Scope
 
International Organization for Migration (IOM) has been implementing reintegration programs with the objective of achieving durable solutions and deliverance of basic services.

The program has contributed significantly in increasing household food security level through short-term income generating activities such as cash for work and vocational skill training projects

With improvement of general security situation in Somalia and food security level, The Programme is shifting its focus toward durable solutions from life-saving and humanitarian assistance and also covers return & reintegration of IDPs, returnees and refugees. 

The Programme will be assisting in returns, reintegration and resilience including the following;

Emergency operations dealing with influx of migrants as a result of disasters or forced returns

1) Returning refugees from neighboring countries and transit area communities, 

2) IDPs who are returning to villages of origin and reintegrating into host communities, 

3) Drought affected pastoral and agro-pastoral communities, 

4) Migrants returning from abroad and 

5) capacity building of the government on service delivery and DRR. 
 
III. Responsibilities and Accountabilities

Under the direct supervision of Project Manager for MCROPS, the incumbent is responsible for performing administration and programme support duties including project tracking, document management, procurement and logistic support for Nairobi and field based offices. 

All these activities will serve to support the effective field implementation of the Project.

In particular, he/she will perform the following duties.
  • Assists in maintaining project administration systems as established by the Project Manager, including document filing, photo management, and financial tracking.
  • Assist in managing partners’ grants in coordination with field staff and follow-up on instalments, reports, and project progress as necessary.
  • In coordination with field staff as well as Programme Manager, draft press briefing notes, call for proposals, and partner agreement, donor reports, and other information materials.
  • Support field-based staff with admin/finance/logistical follow-up as necessary.
  • Arrange departmental meetings and take minutes in meetings and provide relevant documentation for the meetings.
  • Prepare Travel Authorizations (TA) and follow up requests for security clearance for the Staff and external consultants as required.
  • Follow up and/or prepares Payment Requests and Purchase requisition forms (PRFs) for authorization and coordinate/follow up with COS and finance.
  • Assists and supports on logistics and administrative planning of meetings, field trips and trainings in Nairobi and field level as necessary where applicable.
  • Attend cluster meetings, workshops that relevant to the Unit and provide feedback to the Programme Manager
  • Perform any other related task as may be assigned.

V. Education and Experience
  • Degree in Business Administration, social sciences or related fields ;
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in the field of humanitarian work;
  • Experience working in project; working through local NGO or International Organization.
  • Solid computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office package (Word, Excel, Power Point), internet and Email;
  • Fluency (written and spoken) in English is required;
  • Knowledge of Somalia and prior work in the Horn of Africa region will be considered as an advantage.
