Sanofi Aventis four-year MPharm Degree Scholarship


The Sanofi Aventis Scholarship  for the four-year MPharm degree

The Scholarship covers the cost of:
 
- Tuition fees, for all years of study
 
- On-campus accommodation
 
- Contribution towards living expenses
 
- One return airfare from Kenya
 
- Possibility of summer vacation work at Sanofi Aventis, UK Office ¡n Guildford

Selection for this scholarship will be based on academic qualifications and experience, a written admissions exercise and an interview which includes a presentation.

Eligibility of candidates:
  • Candidates must have KCSE with a mean grade of A overall, with Chemistry, Biology, English and Maths at grade A
  • Work experience in Pharmacy or healthcare and evidence of contribution to society voluntary/charity work.
  • Candidates who have already had the opportunity of studying for one year or more outside of Africa will not be eligible.
  • Candidates will complete an application form, this does not guarantee an interview
  • Candidates will be required to prove their nationally and show that without this Scholarship they would be unable to study in the UK
A maximum of 20 candidates will be selected for the written test which will be held on Thursday 30 May and a short list will be made for the interview which will be held by Professor Stephen Chapman, BSc, PhD, Cert.H.Econ, FRSM, FRPharms Deputy Head of the School of Pharmacy on Monday 17 June. 
There will also be a formal presentation for the successful candidate on Wednesday 19 June, evening.

Studio Systems Engineer

Key responsibilities:
  • Ensuring all broadcasting and transmission equipment are operational at all times;
  • Carrying out design and implementation of new systems to improve broadcasting and transmission quality;
  • Ensuring the division keeps a breast with changing technology and has the most appropriate technology at all times;
  • Diagnosis of faulty equipment and repair and or make appropriate recommendations;
  • Planning maintenance schedules for all the equipment and ensuring appropriate implementation;
  • Identifying required spares and facilitating their approval and purchase.
Qualifications, experience and skills
  • University graduate in electrical and electronics engineering, telecommunication in broadcasting or related field;
  • At least 3 years’ experience. Relevant experience in media broadcast will be added advantage;
  • Proven application and knowledge of IP networking and professional networking;
  • Proficiency in server systems administration (Windows 2008 & Linux) is essential, Professional certification/qualification will be an added advantage;
  • Knowledgeable in applying best practice for broadcast telecommunications specifically radio, television and digital;
  • Must have excellent analytical skills;
  • Ability and readiness to work long odd hours;
  • Excellent inter-personal and communication skills; and

Transmission Engineer

Key responsibilities:
  • Plans preventive maintenance for approval and implements the approved schedules;
  • Carries out corrective maintenance on the transmission equipment during breakdown ensuring that all broadcast stations are on air for 24/7/365;
  • Recommends ways and means of improving efficiency (improvement maintenance) of utilisation of existing transmitter equipment at all the stations;
  • Coordinates new projects in transmitter stations. This includes coordination with and management of contractors;
  • Continuously monitors the radio and television signals with a view to resolving any transmission problems arising thereof;
  • Predicts and ensure proper stock level of spares required;
  • 24/7 availability to attend to emergencies;
  • Working independently with little or no supervision to achieve the set targets for maximum turn around for resolution of complaints & faults.
Qualifications, experience and skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in telecommunications/electronics + IT or diploma from a Communication Institute/Electronics + IT;
  • At least 3 years’ technical experience preferably in broadcasting;
  • Knowledge of both Radio & TV Transmitter systems;
  • Knowledge of satellite (SCPC & VSAT) systems;
  • Must have excellent analytical, inter-personal and communication skills.

Job Title: Logistics Assistant (Invoicing)

Accountabilities: Under the direct supervision of the Senior Logistics Assistant, the duties of the Logistics Assistant for Invoice Processing and Funds Management will include the following:

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Participate in Field Level Agreement (FLA) budget negotiations with the Cooperating Partners.
  • Process invoices for Cooperating Partners and contractors including Clearing and Forwarding Agents, Transporters, Superintendence companies, Warehousing Agents, Porter Management as well as Pest Control companies.
  • Create Transport Purchase Orders, Service Entry Sheets for Landside Transport, Storage and Handling (LTSH) in WFP’s Information Network and Global System (WINGS).
  • Ensure 100% monthly and yearly WFP International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS) financial compliance.
  • Ensure that payment status for logistics related services contractors is regularly reconciled to establish all loss deductions and final payments due.
  • Prepare the Consolidated Delivery Report (CDR) generated from the corporate commodity tracking system (COMPAS) and other supporting documents required for invoice processing.
  • Prepare Final Freight Account to ensure that the contractors are aware of any losses/damages to be deducted from their payments.
  • Assist the Senior Logistics Assistant and the Logistics Officer to prepare statistical reports including Committee on Commodities, Transport and Insurance (CCTI) report to be submitted to the Regional Bureau and Headquarters.
  • Reconcile and monitor entries posted in the corporate WINGS system on a monthly basis to ensure that all items are current in terms of age
  • Prepare periodic reports showing Vendors Payment Status. Regularly update the Invoice Tracking System.
  • Prepare material and conduct periodic training of service providers and WFP staff on Invoicing Procedures.
  • Update all the invoice ledgers and maintain a reliable filing system.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications, Experience, Language and Critical Success Factors:
  • Successful completion of secondary school education (KCSE) preferably supplemented by technical or university courses in a field related to WFP logistics/transport activities.
  • A minimum of three years progressively responsible support experience including at least one year in the field of accounting, transport, insurance, statistics, operations or another related field. Good knowledge and experience in using computer software applications (MS Word, Access and Excel).
  • Background in invoice processing and practical experience in data analysis would be an added advantage. Ability to work with minimum supervision, to work quickly and accurately under time constraints and pressure. High sense of initiative and good judgment. Ability to work effectively in a multicultural team environment.
  • Working knowledge of WINGS/SAP and COMPAS is desirable.
  • Ability to review a variety of data, identify and adjust data discrepancies, identify and resolve operational problems.
  • Ability to communicate moderately complex matters clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to perform detailed work of a confidential nature and/or to handle a large volume of work possibly under time constraints.
  • Ability to work effectively with people of different national and cultural backgrounds, to deal patiently and tactfully with staff members and others and to have a high sense of confidentiality.
  • Good written and spoken English and fluent Kiswahili.
Results Expected: Produces organised, accurate and well documented records conforming to required format with well analysed data. May provide guidance on office practices to staff in lower grades.
