Job Summary


Jacaranda is seeking an Executive Assistant to work in the Clinical Operations department by providing support the Director of Clinical Operations.  

The ideal candidate will be involved in handling a wide range of administrative and executive support related tasks and will be able to work independently with little or no supervision. 

This person must be exceedingly well organized, flexible and enjoy administrative challenges of supporting a growing office.

Responsibilities
  • Perform a wide variety of executive administration duties as required by the daily operations of the Director of Clinical Operations’ office
  • Perform technical, specialized, complex and difficult office administration work requiring the use of  independent judgment
  • Receive and screen communications to the Director of Clinical Operations including telephone calls and visitors
  • Make travel arrangements for the Director of Clinical Operations
  • Maintain appointment calendar, arrange meetings and conferences for the Director of Clinical Operations
  • Attend management and other meetings as directed to take minutes
  • Establish, develop, maintain, and update filing system for the Director of Clinical Operations
  • Type and design general correspondence, memos, charts, tables, graphs, etc. 
  • Proofread copy for spelling, grammar and layout, making appropriate changes.  Responsible for accuracy and clarity of final product
  • Liaise with internal staff at all levels
  • Review and summarize miscellaneous reports and documents
  • Maintain and protect the confidentiality of all Clinical Related Documents and client information
  • Other duties as may be assigned.
Requirements
  • College Graduate, Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred
  • 3+ years experience providing executive level administration.
  • Candidate should have proficient computer skills with in-depth knowledge of Google Apps (Specifically e mail and calendar management), MS Office Suite (Word, Excel and PowerPoint), organizational and planning skills, problem solving and analysis, excellent judgment and decision making ability, initiative, confidentiality, attention to detail, flexible and adaptable to change, team player, time management skills, basic budgeting theories and principals and record keeping ability.

APHRC Research Officer Job in Kenya


Research Officer

The African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) is an international non-profit, non-governmental organization that carries out policy relevant research on population, health, education and development issues facing sub-Saharan Africa.

The Center seeks to recruit a Research Officer to work in a newly funded research project to investigate the role of multi-sectoral approaches in the making and implementation of policies for Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) prevention.

This will be done by compiling evidence on NCD prevention policy making in five African countries including Kenya using a case-study approach.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conduct a comprehensive document and literature review on established policy analysis frameworks
  • Lead the process for obtaining ethical approval for the Kenya case study
  • Develop study tools, training manuals and field guides to use for data collection for the Kenya case study
  • Coordinate the recruitment and training of the field team as well as field work for the Kenya case study
  • Conduct interviews with a variety of actors using qualitative research techniques
  • Plan, set up logistics and coordinate several research-related workshops for participants from the five countries
  • Coordinate policy outreach activities including policy dialogue and research dissemination events
  • Assist in writing scientific papers
  • Preparing project reports
  • Prepare policy briefs and fact sheets from the project’s findings
  • Other duties as required.
Required:
  • MA, MSc, in Sociology, Public Health, Policy Analysis or related discipline with at least two years’ post-graduate experience, preferably in a research program
  • Experience in research  program design, implementation and coordination
  • Demonstrable experience conducting field research and managing a research team
  • Knowledge of computer programs, including Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Evidence of scientific writing (e.g.peer-reviewed publications, technical reports, books, etc.)
  • Experience using qualitative data management software like Nvivo, and training or experience in policy analysis will be an added advantage
  • Excellent oral and written communication in English
  • Ability to work independently, set priorities, juggle tasks, meet deadlines

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Implements, manages, and troubleshoots existing network and system environments. Provides administration, operation management, and support for all computer systems, workstations.
  • Performs frequent server checks and implements patches on servers also applying operating system updates patches, and configuration changes.
  • Performs maintenance of desktop computers and performance tuning.
  • Installing and configuring new hardware and software.
  • Adding, removing, or updating user account information, resetting passwords, etc through AD.
  • Working on Database correction of entered record.
  • Technical support and troubleshooting any reported problems.
  • Responsibility for documenting the configuration of the system.
  • Schedules, performs, and monitors system backups and, when necessary, performs data recoveries.
  • Maintains software, including testing, evaluation and installation of new versions or authorized modifications to custom and vendor-supplied operating systems and related software.
  • Determines and initiates appropriate and immediate actions needed to restore normal services with minimal down time. Investigates recurring and related operating system failures/inefficiencies by reviewing system logs, dumps and other information from clients or technical personnel.
  • Works with hardware and software vendors to diagnose and correct problems.
  • Monitors and evaluates operating efficiency, analyzes hardware/software performance and tuning.
  • Prepares documentation of systems and software for permanent records.
  • Advises and trains clients regarding server systems.
  • Configuration of Local Area Network and Wide Area Network;
  • Developing and updating application systems;
  • Carrying out systems analysis, design and programme specifications in liaison with users;
  • Carrying out repairs and maintenance of Information Communication Technology equipment and associated Technology equipment;
  • Verification, validation and certification of Information Communication Technology equipment; and
  • Overseeing the process of configuration of new Information Communication Technology equipment.
Minimum Qualifications
  • At least a degree in ICT from a recognized university.
  • Must be willing to take or participate in challenging tasks.
  • Knowledge of programming languages such as PHP, C, C#, Java, .NET, and Visual Basic
  • Exposure to Mobile Application Development
  • Excellent verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Team player with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated outstanding level of professionalism in providing administrative support, including ability to exercise good judgment, discretion, tact, and diplomacy
  • Sound business ethics, including the protection of proprietary and confidential information
  • Superior interpersonal skills including courtesy, professionalism, and a cooperative attitude
