ACF-France - Capacity Building Program Manager Job in Mogadishu, Somalia

 Action Contre la Faim (ACF-France) has been conducting humanitarian programs in Somalia from May 1992. 

At present, ACF is conducting its humanitarian activities in Somalia focused on Severe and moderate malnutrition, Medical programs and Water & Sanitation programs via program bases in Mogadishu (since 1995). 

ACF Somalia is currently looking for suitable Somali candidates to fill the following position which will be based in Mogadishu with frequent travel to Nairobi and to operation sites in various locations of South and Central Somalia. 

Capacity Building Program Manager 

(1 position)
  • In collaboration with the Medical & Nutrition Coordinator, the Capacity Building Program Manager will be part of the team implementing Emergency Nutrition, Health and Wash Interventions for conflict and drought affected population in South and Central Somalia and s/he will also provide a link to the on-going ACF programs and other NGOS addressing malnutrition in the area. 
  • S/he will be in charge of building the capacity of the NGOs and ACF staff attached to facilities who manage the severe acute malnutrition beneficiaries as well as mother and child health (MCH) clinics and to give support to the nutrition/health facilities in other activities contributing towards strengthening of basic service package. 
  • The job holder will also be required to implement, organise, follow-up and give regular reports on capacity building activities in the area. 
  • In addition, S/he will be expected to identify training needs of nutrition, health workers and community nutrition workers attached to facilities as well as conducting the relevant trainings.
Who we are looking for:
  • We a looking for a highly motivated and qualified individual with extensive humanitarian experience with a Degree in Nutrition/Nursing with a minimum of 2 years in Capacity building programs. 
  • S/he must have proven skills in capacity building and community development and ability to work in a team, have excellent communication skills and a team leader who is organised, able to take initiatives and work within deadlines. 
  • S/he must be computer literate with proficiency in using of Word, Excel and other data analysis tools with the capability of compiling high quality reports and must be fluent in both written and oral communication in English and Somali Languages.

The Salvation Army Kenya East Territory WASH Project seeks to recruit a qualified person to the position of construction / field supervisor for a period of one year. 

This is a full time position based at our Territorial Headquarters in Karen, Nairobi and involves travel to the rural areas (Central and Eastern regions of Kenya) approximately 80% of the time.
 
Construction / Field Supervisor

Position Summary:
 
To supervise field operations of water and sanitation improvements undertaken in the targeted schools, ensuring quality control and effective use of resources.
 
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Supervise the construction of water and sanitation facilities within the targeted schools to ensure quality control (materials and workmanship) and effective use of resources.
  • Train local Artisans to undertake repairs/maintenance of WASH facilities in schools.
  • Train School Management Committees (SMCs) on O&M, record keeping and basic fundraising for O&M.
  • Assist the Water & Sanitation Engineer with the technical aspects of the project. These include and not limited to examining and assessing all plans, designs and budgets for schools’ water and sanitation improvements.
  • Compile and submit regular monitoring reports on all construction works.
Qualifications & Experience:
  • Minimum Diploma in Civil Engineering, building and construction, water Technology/Engineering or Public Health from a recognized institution.
  • Minimum 3 years experience in community WASH interventions. Experience in school WASH will be an added advantage.
  • Ability to organize and facilitate training to both adults and children using the participatory methodologies.
  • Good knowledge of rain water harvesting technologies, VIP latrines and other rural water supply solutions.
  • Excellent computer skills. Knowledge of Auto-CAD is desirable.
  • Fluent written and verbal English and Kiswahili language skills.
  • Must be in sympathy with aims and mission of The Salvation Army.

FH - Deputy Chief of Party Job in Kenya

Deputy Chief of Party (DCOP)

Food for the Hungry (FH) is an international Christian humanitarian organization working to alleviate all forms of human poverty. 

FH is seeking a Deputy Chief of Party (DCOP) for an anticipated USAID-funded Resilience and Economic Growth in the Arid Lands- Improving Resilience project in Kenya. 

The goal of the project is to reduce hunger and poverty, increase social stability and build strong foundations for economic growth by strengthening social, economic and environmental resilience in pastoral and transitioning communities in Kenya’s arid lands. 

The project has six interlinked objectives: 
  1. increasing livelihood opportunities; 
  2. advancing value chain inclusiveness; 
  3. improved management and productivity of natural resources; 
  4. managing and resolving conflicts; 
  5. managing and reducing disaster risk; 
  6. reducing nutritional vulnerability.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

The DCOP will assist the COP in general oversight of the project including programmatic, technical, logistical and administrative management components in order to ensure project objectives are achieved. 

In absence of the COP, the D/COP will be responsible for overall oversight of the project. 

In close conjunction with the M&E and Learning and Sharing coordinators, the DCOP will oversee M&E and learning functions, ensuring effective monitoring, quality reporting, and documentation of best practices and lessons to share with partners and influence policy and practice.

Qualifications:
 
  • At least seven (7) years or more of progressively responsible work experience in managing and implementing development programs in Kenya or in the Horn of Africa. 
  • At least three (3) years of professional work experience in pastoral related activities; livestock marketing, production, natural resource management, and animal health services. 
  • USAID management experience with knowledge of programmatic, compliance and reporting requirements. 
  • Experience in value chain development, facilitation, agribusiness, conflict mitigation and DRR is an added advantage.
Education Requirements:  

The minimum qualifications for the DCOP candidate will include a Master’s degree in international development, livestock, agriculture, economics, or related field of study or 3 years equivalent of additional relevant work experience.

This position is contingent upon availability of funding.

CRS Kenya - Chief of Party and Deputy Chief of Party Jobs

Resilience and Economic Growth in the Arid Lands - Improving Resilience Project (Two positions)

CRS/Kenya is seeking Kenyan National candidates for a USAID program designed to reduce hunger and poverty, increase social stability and build strong foundations for economic growth by strengthening social, economic, and environmental resilience in pastoral and transitioning communities in Kenya’s arid land. 

Primary components of this program include: 
  • Strengthened and Diversified Livelihood Opportunities, 
  • Inclusive Livestock Value Chain,
  • Improved Management and Productivity of Natural Resources, 
  • Improved Conflict Management, Improved Drought Management and Improved Consumption of Nutritious Foods Both successful candidates will be based in a project office to be located within the program areas. 
  • Should the award be granted and the position funded, the project would begin in September 2012.
Chief of Party (COP)

Chief of Party (COP) will provide overall direction and leadership 

The CoP will be responsible for the achievement of strategic objectives, intermediate results, and performance expectations through adherence to high standards of programmatic and management quality.
 
The COP duties include providing leadership and oversight to the consortium and ensuring that sub-grantees adhere to their assigned scopes of work and sub-award terms, act as primary project contact to donor, strengthen linkages with existing and potential partner agencies and manage relationships with the Government of Kenya as well as oversee program communication strategies. 

S/he will also ensure program quality, management of program budget and reporting, representation and advocacy and management of program staff
 
Specific Qualifications:
  • Minimum MS with a focus on Agribusiness and value chains or other related fields mentioned above. PhD desired.
  • Minimum 10 years of progressively increasing management responsibility in developing countries. 
  • Experience working in the arid lands of Kenya, Kenyan preferred.
  • Prior management of significant USAID funding required, ideally in CoP position.
  • Familiarity with and commitment to addressing gender equality in programming.
  • Proven experience in managing complex consortium or partnership relationships in a participatory way required.
  • Understanding of and experience with faith-based organizations, local church structures, and accompaniment and capacity-building principles in local partnerships desired.
  • Excellent English oral and written communication skills
  • A professional with high personal integrity, commitment & good stewardship
  • Ability to cultivate constructive relationships and cope with people from diverse backgrounds
Deputy Chief of Party (DCoP)

Deputy Chief of Party (DCoP) will primarily be responsible for the smooth running of Finance and Administration aspects of the project and serve as Acting Chief of Party in the Chief of Party’s (CoP) absence. 

The DCoP shall assure compliance and management quality with all USAID regulations and reporting requirements pertinent to the Cooperative Agreement governing USAID-funded Resilience and Economic Growth in the Arid Lands Improving Resilience (REGAL-IR) program in Kenya.
 
Duties include providing support to project staff on budget reviews, analysis and level of project expenditures; ensure compliance with donor regulations; oversee contract and grant agreements, jointly
with the CoP represent REGAL-IR program in donor meetings and other fora, and ensure that program responds to the needs of the donor.
 
Specific Qualifications
  • Master’s degree with demonstrated financial management or related field
  • Five years of overseas development experience
  • Senior management experience
  • Kenyan arid lands experience desired
  • Understanding of applicable USG regulations
  • Strong resource management, representation and networking skills
  • Strong writing and researching skills
