Background


Although the new constitutional dispensation enhances the bond between public participation and transparency, levels of public awareness of its provisions vary along myriad variables across the country.


This affects their civic engagement and limits their capacity to hold public officials accountable on the basis of specific constitutional provisions.


Marginalized communities face many challenges which limit them from taking full advantage of the current constitution.


International Ford Foundation Fellowship Program (IFP) in Kenya alumni Association has carried out a baseline survey to establish the gaps that different communities face in grasping the new constitution.


The association has also simplified (four chapters) of the New Constitution and are now looking for consultants to carry out the following functions


    Develop key messages for the development of IEC materials
    Layout, design and printing of IEC materials
    Overall objective of the consultancy
    Develop the Information Education Communication (IEC) materials for the project’s stakeholders for civic education and engagement in 16 counties to equip members of the public with the details of the new constitution regarding leadership and their lives in general


Consultant 1: (developing key messages for IEC materials)


    Extract simple messages from four chapters of the simplified constitution and the report of the baseline survey for use in developing IEC materials.
    Develop messages from the two sources above to address the knowledge gaps based on the baseline survey and on the simplified constitution
    Recommend and advice on the suitable forms of the IEC materials
    Carry out a field pre-test of the developed IEC materials and make final adjustment as will be necessary in one of the counties, Nairobi preferably or as consultant deems fit.
    Specific Output and Deliverables consultant 1
    The specific output and deliverables are as follows:
    Final messages for different IEC materials (IFP Alumni Kenya will hire another consultant for design, layout and printing. However, the consultant should work with the other consultant (who will be in charge of production) during production to ensure we attain high quality result) and that the meaning of the messages are not altered


Qualification of consultant 1


    Two years experience in IEC messages development
    At least 3 Samples of work already done
    Ability to bring out messages on the new constitution
    Knowledge in developing IEC/BCC materials for INGO, NGO,
    At least 02 years hands-on experience on developing IEC/BCC materials
    Skilled in working with various stakeholder levels
    Knowledge of the New constitution of Kenya
    Fluency in written English
    The applicant should not be currently an alumni focal person or in the implementation committee 


Submission plan for consultant 1


    Submit detailed proposal for developing IEC materials including financial proposal.
    The Consultant will deliver a presentation on the proposal and methodology of its development in front of IFP Alumni team before going into agreement.
    The Consultant will submit a detail work plan and time line of the entire assignment
    After the agreement, the consultant will carry out the following tasks;
    S/he will review all project related documents to internalize the concept of the project and time to time take part in meeting with IFP Alumni team to update the progress if necessary.
    S/he will share the progress and incorporate feedback if any comes out.
    Before finalizing the message and layout of the approved format (design) s/he has to go for field-test and after filed testing s/he will make necessary change if it is needed
    After finalizing all formats (design) of IEC s/he will give a final presentation.
    S/he will give sample copy of each item of IEC materials before the final print.
    The final product is the sole property of the IFP Alumni


Submission of proposal

Consultant 2 (developing layout/design and printing of IEC materials)


The role of consultant 2 will be as follows


    Layout, design and printing of IEC materials in lieu with professional procedure and quality
    Submit final camera-ready forms of the IEC materials for printing
    Print IEC materials as agreed by the procurement committee 


Specific output and deliverables of consultant 1


    The specific output and deliverables are as follows:
    Final design of IEC messages on different IEC materials camera-ready formats e.g. brochures, booklets, posters etc
    Printed IEC materials 


Qualifications


    Two years experience in layout, design of communication materials
    Samples of work already done
    Ability to bring out messages as per the new constitution
    Knowledge in design, layout and printing of IEC/BCC materials for INGO, NGO,
    At least 02 years hands-on experience on developing IEC/BCC materials
    Skilled in working with various stakeholder levels
    Should be familiar with the New constitution of Kenya
    Fluency in written English

    Strong analytical and problem solving skills
    Excellent communication skills and attention to detail
    Able to work under pressure
    Knowledge in Microsoft Exchange/Zimbra
    Knowledge of SAP, Cargospot and SQL server/Crystal Reports will be an added advantage


Experience


    At least 1 year of working experience in the related field.

Expression of Interest to Conduct a Baseline Survey Lower Mbooni Environmental Conservation Project


Kwiminia Community Based organization (CBO) would like to seek the services of competent individual (s) / firm to carry out an environmental and socio-economic baseline survey for one of its projects to be carried out in 5 adjacent locations of Mbooni East District.


The Purpose of the Baseline


    The overall objective of this survey is to establish initial status of the project’s indicators and related conditions against which the effects of the project will be compared.
    The baseline results will be critical in establishing benchmarks for project performance measurement as well as generate data for evidence-based decision making.


Objectives of the Consultancy


    Identify baseline values of the project’s indicators for tracking purposes
    Identify policy gaps and make appropriate recommendations for project intervention
    Identify and recommend opportunities and synergies for better results and linkages
    Review the project’s M&E system including tools and provide technical advice on how they can be enhanced for outcome and impact measurement


The Consultant’s Profile


The lead consultant must:


    Possess a post graduate degree in: project management, natural resources, Environmental sciences, economics, social sciences
    Have a proven experience in similar assignments with CBO’s or NGO’s in Kenya for the past 3 years with specific emphasis on environmental conservation, renewable energy and community development projects in arid and semi arid areas.
    Have thorough knowledge in developing M&E systems
    Ability to write high quality technical reports
    Expression of interest and Expected Results

Position Purpose:


To provide assistance in oversight and management of the day-to-day care and maintenance of 100+ working service dogs at a Naivasha-based kennel.


Key Responsibilities and Tasks:


    Oversight and management in caring for K-9 dogs (water, feeding, grooming)
    Coordinate/manage health and well-being of K-9s (whelping, veterinary visit, inoculations, deworming, tick and flea control, weight assessment)
    Manage medical/medicine inventories and equipment.
    Maintain diaries and records.
    Teach basic dog care clinics.
    Performs other duties as required.


Skills & Knowledge:


    demonstrated interest and ability in caring and working with dogs
    excellent interpersonal skills
    ability to understand and speak basic English, follow instructions, an d work cooperatively and effectively with others.
