Accountant - Nairobi, Kenya

An Accounting vacancy exists within a company in Kenya.

The organisation based in Nairobi, Kenya is seeking an accountant in the Nairobi office.

The holder of this position is responsible for updating, verifying, and maintaining accounting journals and ledgers and managing multiple grants an inventory management system, along with other financial duties as per approved policies and procedures.

Job Description
  • Preparing cash book and postings to ledgers as required
  • Carrying out reconciliation of various accounts as required
  • Receiving payments and providing copies of receipts to relevant persons
  • Preparation of monthly journals to the relevant GL accounts
  • Tracking and auditing petty cash and assisting employees with expense reports
  • Preparing timely and accurate trial balance and other related financial statements
  • Preparation and filing of forms and documentation including, but not limited to, The Kenya Revenue Authority
  • Verifying various claims as per approved procedures
  • Preparing payroll
  • Oversight of annual audit preparation
  • Review of and adherence to respective financial funding sources grants, or letter of agreements and requirements
  • Review of overall internal accounting controls of the office
  • Any other assigned tasks
Person Specification
  • ACCA Professional Skills Level or CPA Section III
  • Knowledge of accounting with 2-3 years’ of relevant experience
  • Previous experience working with donor funding a must
  • Previous experience working with NGO an advantage
  • Degree in business or accounting
  • Ability to prepare financial statements and analyze financial reports
  • MS Office and knowledge of QuickBooks
  • Proficiency of generally accepted accounting and bookkeeping principles and procedures

Quantity Surveyor (KShs 50,000 p.m.)

Our client a building and construction company is looking for a Quantity Surveyor for a monthly salary of Kshs. 50,000.

The Quantity Surveyor will be responsible for preparing the bill of quantities, which is an estimate of the cost of carrying out a construction project and he/she keeps track of costs to determine whether the project is profitable.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Preparation of the Bill of Quantities
  • Develop Materials and Labour Schedule
  • Preparation of project budget
  • Profit and loss projections
  • Project analysis and tracking
Abilities and skills needed
  • Advanced technical education in construction - Degree/Higher National Diploma in Building and Construction or quantity survey or HND in Quantity Survey or equivalent
  • Three years experience in the construction sector
  • Excellent planning skills
  • Analytical mind
