Main Responsibilities
  • Monitor all Windows servers for performance issues and stability concerns.
  • Administer domain and exchange user accounts.
  • Provide desktop support for all users in Nairobi and other international locations.
  • Regular application installations, configurations, and day-to-day administration.
  • Support, updates and Upgrade Internet Security suites, antivirus, anti-spam and malware applications on all desktops and servers.
  • Troubleshoot hardware and software issues as they arise.
  • Work with Apache and IIS6 on a daily basis to support customers and ensure maximum uptime.
  • Staying familiar with new versions of applications used on servers.
  • Working with and troubleshooting all of the following, including, but not limited to: SMTP, SNMP, SNTP, POP, FTP, SSL, SSH, HTTP, HTTPS, telnet, SFTP, DNS, RDP, TCP, ICMP, and UDP.
  • Use knowledge of each of the above listed technologies as related to the issue at hand.
  • Use and maintain zone file for name servers.
  • Work with basic applications and their ports: backup, MSSQL, MySQL.
  • Work with permissions in Microsoft Server 2008.
  • Setup and maintain Open Database Connectivity.
  • Work with, troubleshoot, and diagnose ASP, ASP.NET, PHP, CGI, and Perl languages.
  • Document issues and associated resolutions to problems.
Required Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience
  • All Hardware is remote. Knowledge of standard Web applications, Windows Server 2008, and Windows Exchange 2010 is a must
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in the English language.
  • Two or more years of Microsoft Windows Server administration.
  • Willing and able to cover other shifts if needed.
  • Dependable to be at work during assigned shifts and to complete work as expected.
  • Ability to work well with a team in a fast paced, constantly changed environment and follow instructions from supervisors and directors.
  • Experience with documenting procedures.
  • Experience with a web hosting control panel.
  • Experience with Cisco Routers, Switches, Firewalls, and Cisco IOS a plus but not required.
  • Be willing to work with and learn Windows Server 2008 and other technologies as they are released and implemented.

Summary:

The Clinical officer will be attached to the maternity and paediatric departments with particular responsibilities for the INTERBIO and GBS studies.

Reporting Lines:

The post reports to the Principal Investigator (s), Dr Jay Berkley, Dr Anna Seale (maternal-perinatal study/GBS) and Dr Bryn Kemp (INTERBIO Study).

Key Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for the recruitment, coordination, training and quality control of sample collection for the INTERBIO study.
  • Responsible for coordination, training and quality control of sample collection for GBS stillbirths and controls
  • May include on-calls for sample collection out of hours
  • Responsible for the collection and submission of clinical data required by INTERBIO and GBS studies
  • Responsible to assist with newborn checks and neonatal care in maternity to the standard required for the study
  • Responsible for taking neonatal surface swabs on all babies 1-2 hours after delivery
  • Assist with training in neonatal resuscitation and newborn examinations.
  • Clinical care as CO according to allocation in maternity and paediatric departments
  • Liaise with the other maternity/ paediatric study MO and COs as necessary
  • Contribute to seminars, educational activities in maternity and paediatrics
  • Any other duties that may be required by the study or clinical team.
Skills and Competence:

Essential Qualifications:
  • Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery.
  • Registered Clinical Officer
  • At least 3 years post qualification clinical service
  • Ability to work in a team
  • Use of Microsoft office, word, excel
Preferable:
  • Demonstrable commitment to maternal, perinatal and newborn health
  • Good communication and organisation skills
  • Experience leading a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience in a research setting

Minimum requirements
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Technology.

  • At least 7 years experience in engineering practice covering design, construction and maintenance of building systems, facilities and infrastructure.
  • Excellent understanding the design and maintenance of building services systems including HVAC, water and energy systems.
  • Excellent understanding of modern intelligent real estate (IRE), building management and building greening systems and concepts.
  • Good project management and co-ordination skills.
  • Good understanding of office design concepts.
  • Good understanding of modern facilities management concepts.
  • Advances knowledge of MS Office applications and AutoCAD.
  • Analytical skills.
  • Team player with excellent influencing skills.
  • High level of Initiative and self-drive.
