Safaricom - Senior TX Support Engineer

We are pleased to announce the following vacancy in the Core Network Planning & Support Department within the Technical & IT Division.

In keeping with our current business needs, we are looking for a person who meets the criteria indicated below:

Senior TX Support Engineer

Ref: TECHNICAL-TXSE-DEC-11

Reporting to the Senior Manager- Tx Planning & Support, the holder of the position will carry out fault resolution, configuration changes, quality assurance and transmission network availability monitoring to deliver reliable transport/transmission network.

Key Responsibilities
  • Take lead in Transmission fault identification, tracking and resolution
  • Carryout Transmission quality monitoring, investigation and resolutions
  • Monitoring and ensuring that Transmission network availability targets
  • Ensure timely implementation of configuration and work orders as per the SLA
  • Liaise with contractors, transmission equipment vendors and infrastructure providers in carrying out acceptance as per the approved processes
  • Take a lead role in implementation and application of packet based transport in Safaricom network;
  • Ensure projects with suppliers are carried out in line with the approved processes and procedures to ensure that the key milestones are attained/flagged to attain project delivery timelines;
  • Development, implementation and updates of transmission network performance systems and databases
  • Perform transmission/transport trials, equipment/systems parameters checks and evaluation and subsequent recommendations for approval and adoption of new equipment, systems and technologies into the network.
  • Cost effectiveness in relation to CAPEX OPEX of trials introduced in the network.
Minimum Requirements
  • University degree in Electrical, Electronics or Telecommunication Engineering;
  • 5 years experience in telecommunications environment of which 3 years must have been involved in installations/commissioning and maintenance in the transmission field;
  • Good understanding of guided and unguided(free space) communication with underlying transport technologies such as PDH, SDH, DWDM, IP/MPLS e.t.c
  • Conversant with transmission implementation and performance measuring and monitoring tools
  • Conversant with the design, implementation and operation of packet based networks;
  • Have good understanding of converged as well as next generation transport network.
  • CCNA knowledge is an added advantage;
  • Good understanding of computer application as well as database development tools.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • To carry out Land/Survey work related to Council projects including works necessary for ground rates valuation.
Qualifications
  • Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education mean Grade C- or its relevant and equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
  • A Diploma in Land Surveying by the Kenya National Examination Council or possess any other accepted equivalent qualification.
2. Works Officer III

Duties and responsibilities
  • Supervision of artisans and staff involved in maintenance of Council’s Institutions and Installations.
  • Initiation of procurement of materials and tools used in the above.
Qualifications

For appointment to the grade of Works Officer III salary scale 10, a candidate must have the following qualifications:-
  • Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education mean Grade C- or its relevant and equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.

Community Based Green Energy Project Officer and Community Mobilizer

The Catholic Diocese of Isiolo (Caritas Isiolo) received a grant from the EU through CAFOD to implement Community Based Green Energy Project in Isiolo Diocese.

The overall objective of the project will be to increase access to modern, affordable and sustainable energy services for community institutions in rural and peri-urban areas in the Diocese.

The Diocese is seeking to recruit qualified experienced persons to fill the following positions

Community Based Green Energy Project Officer

1 Position

Key Responsibilities:
  • To prepare and review project activity and budget plans and ensure efficient budget monitoring and activity implementation
  • To prepare project progress and financial reports in consultation with the Accountant and Development Coordinator
  • To visit and monitor project activities, facilitate information sharing with target communities and provide technical support to staff local communities
  • To facilitate the recruitment of ICT volunteers in liaison with Diocesan management and partners
  • To mobilize and sensitize target communities to effectively participate in project activities through sharing project goals, objectives and activities
  • To facilitate easy access of Solar Works technical staff to communities for efficient and successful installation of the solar systems and the training of local artisans and technicians
  • Must be articulate in the understanding of the Social Teachings of the Catholic Church
  • Ensure visibility of project activities is undertaken
Qualifications, Experience, Skills and Attributes required
  • Have at least a Degree Science in an Energy related field with a bias to project planning and management or in any other related discipline.
  • Other related short courses such as community development be an added advantage
  • Must have experience of at least 2 years in project planning and implementation
  • Ability to make sound and timely judgments
  • Strong intellectual, analytical and decision making abilities
  • Must be computer literate, conversant with operations software
  • Should have good writing and communication skills

Community Mobilizer

1 Position

Responsibilities
  • To mobilize and sensitize target communities to effectively participate in project activities
  • To facilitate target communities to develop beneficiary selection criteria
  • To work jointly with the Project Officer and elected community leaders to facilitate the distribution of solar systems in a transparent and accountable manner
  • Facilitate beneficiaries to establish and run committees and maintenance funds
  • To mobilize target communities to effectively participate in the project baseline survey
  • Liaising with stakeholders at the local level to support in building of synergies
  • To maintain records of trained artisans/technicians, Trainers of Users and beneficiaries distribution lists for different solar systems
  • To work with the trained local artisans and technicians and ensure effective maintenance services for solar systems are provided on a timely basis
  • To prepare activity reports and share with the Project Officer
Qualifications, Experience, Skills and Attributes required
  • A Bachelors Degree in Social Work/degree in agriculture, environmental science, education, BA in sociology.
  • At least 3 years relevant experience
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software will be an added advantage
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • High level of attention to details in all aspects of work responsibilities
  • Ability to work as a member of a team and to perform a variety of tasks simultaneously
  • The ability to work on their own with minimal supervision across multiple projects
  • Should be articulate in the understanding of the Social Teachings of the Catholic Church
