World Vision - Pump Electrician

Job Title: Pump Electrician

Country: Kenya

Location: Field Based

Closing Date: December 24 2011

Purpose of the position:

Together with the test pumping team perform the test pumping exercise, pump installations and plumbing to the standards specified by the WVK, GoK and other stake holders, do Pump/control panel fault diagnosis and necessary repairs; in order to facilitate provision of potable water for household livelihoods thus contributing to the attainment of child well being outcomes.

Qualifications: Education/Knowledge/Technical Skills and Experience

The following may be acquired through a combination of formal or self-education, prior experience or on-the-job training:
  • Diploma in electrical engineering from a reputable institution,
  • At least 5 years experience in electrical engineering related field.
  • At least 3 years experience in working with submersible pumps and test pumping units.
  • Valid BCE class driving license with at least 3 years experience in driving Lorries.
  • Good team player, self starter, has ability to work under minimum supervision and maintain good relationships

The successful candidate should be:

A university graduate with a bias in IT, Communications, Journalism or a business related degree from a recognised university.

A credible journalist with at least 10 years’ experience, three of which must have been spent as an editor or sub-editor.

A go-getter with exceptional communication skills and a variety of contacts within the ICT sector.

Familiar with both print and online publications. Strong knowledge of Joomla and Wordpress a must.

Job Description

Reporting to the Publisher/Director, the Chief Editor will be in charge of:
  • The day-to-day running of both print and online editions.
  • Generating thematic story ideas for the magazine in consultation with the Business Development Manager and the Editorial Director.
  • Conducting interviews with relevant sources and filing analytical pieces for both print and online editions.
  • Overall supervision and mentoring of Staff Writers.
  • Assigning staff writers to cover various ICT-related events.
  • Ensuring that Staff Writers follow up on developing stories.
  • Liaison with correspondents and columnists from across the region.
  • Editing all articles from staff writers, columnists and correspondents.
  • Updating the website with relevant content on a daily basis, two articles in each section.
  • Planning for the production of the magazine and ensuring editorial deadlines are met.
  • Liaison with professional photographers and maintenance of a picture gallery.
  • Writing a blog and an editorial for online and print editions respectively.
  • Any other duties as may be assigned by the Business Development Manager and the Editorial Director.

Job Title: Software Developer / Engineer

Reporting To: Team Leader Software

Job Location: Nairobi

Key Areas of Responsibility
  • Full life cycle application development
  • Object oriented design and analysis
  • Database design
  • Presenting ideas for system improvements
  • Testing the products in controlled, real situations before handing over to Quality assurance team.
  • Technical system documentation
  • Performance tuning, balancing and usability of systems
  • Identify new technologies for implementation in system development
  • Develop both back end (daemon applications) and web user interfaces (GUIs)
  • Design and develop programming systems making specific determinations about system performance.
  • Responding promptly and professionally to bug reports.
Required Skills and Competencies

Academic Qualifications:
  • Degree qualifications in Computer Science or related field from a reputable University.
Experience: 5+ years working experience as a software developer

Specific Knowledge & Skills Requirements:
  • Good understanding of Object oriented programming and good understanding of the following programming languages Java, OOP PHP (Python is an added advantage)
