Chemonics / Kenya Pharma Supply Chain / Logistics Manager Job Vacancy


Chemonics / Kenya Pharma is a USAID funded project that seeks to establish and operate a reliable, sustainable pharmaceutical supply chain management system.

Its aim is to forecast, procure, store, and distribute drugs, supplies, and equipment needed for the care and treatment of persons with HIV/AIDS in Kenya.

Chemonics / Kenya Pharma has the following vacancy.

Position Title: Supply Chain / Logistics Manager 

Reports to: Director of Technical Coordination

Location: Nairobi

Position Description:

The Supply Chain/Logistics Manager will be responsible for Kenya Pharma’s inbound drugs shipment, customs clearance, warehousing and outbound deliveries to the service delivery points.

Specific Duties & responsibilities
Inbound shipment: 
  • Liaise with the shipment subcontractor and ensure commodities are shipped from the supplier and cleared with customs in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate arrival of shipments into the warehouse.
Warehousing & Inventory Management:
  • Oversee warehousing practices to ensure appropriate handling of commodities.
  • Coordinate the receipt and dispatch of the commodities from the warehouse.
  • Manage contingency stocks and work with the procurement and forecasting and quantification managers to ensure availability of buffer stocks at all times in the warehouses.
  • Plan and manage quarterly inventory and warehouse inspections.
Outbound Shipment:
  • Liaise with the warehouse team for the management of drug orders, authorize emergency deliveries to facilities, and manage reverse logistics when required.
  • Coordinate with the transport subcontractor to ensure efficiency in delivery of commodities to sites as well as proper tracking and tracing of commodities.
Management and Reporting:
  • Provide overall management and supervision of subcontractors.
  • Identify areas of potential improvements/efficiencies.
  • Work with project team to develop and deliver training on various areas of supply chain management.
  • Implement ISO 9001 principles, Chemonics and USAID regulations in supply chain management.
Qualifications
  • B.A. (Masters preferred) in supply chain management required, or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.
  • Minimum 8 years project management experience, including supply chain and logistics operations management, subcontracts supervision and management.
  • Experience managing health commodities supplies will be an added advantage.
  • Thorough knowledge of USAID and its contractual and reporting requirements.
  • Strong understanding of GOK customs clearance procedures and processes.

Following the declaration of food insecurity in the country and recommendations from the short rains assessment, SP intends to implement a 5 month Nutrition program in West Pokot targeting children below five years, pregnant and lactating women.

The nutrition Program seeks to reduce morbidity and mortality associated with malnutrition in the identified groups through provision of food and health services.

We are therefore seeking qualified candidates to fill the following positions base in Garissa County Dadaab District, North Eastern Kenya.

The post is a field position in a feeding program. Integrated Management of Acute Malanutrition (IMAM) based in Garissa County Dadaab district. The nutrition officer will be reporting to the Nutrition program manager

Responsibilities
  • Ensure that nutrition care is provided to the beneficiaries at the SFCs through the mobile clinics.
  • Plan and oversee medical and anthropometric screening of malnourished children and pregnant and lactating mothers
  • Assist in organizing training to improve the skills of the national staff in screening, supplementary feeding, as well as nutrition education.
  • Organize and supervise dry supplementary food program and outpatient therapeutic program visits
  • Supervise and perform close monitoring of the staff working in the nutrition program (i.e Nutrition assistants, educators and Community Nutrition Volunteers).
  • Work closely with the stabilization centers in attending to and monitoring the admitted children using the standard IMAM protocol
  • Oversee the collection, handling, analysis and reporting of data related to screening, patients follow-up, and commodities (food and medical)
  • Monitor the nutrition status surveillance of all children less than 5 years old; pregnant and breastfeeding mothers in SFCs; and participate in the nutrition surveillance, active screening, rapid nutrition assessments, Nutrition Surveys and produce final nutrition reports.
  • Assist in developing formal and informal training materials to build the capacity of the host population in health and nutrition.
  • Perform any other duty as shall be directed by the program manager
Person Specifications Education 
  • Degree in nutrition, nursing or equivalent
  • Must be a registered nutritionist with Kenya nutritionist and dieticians institute
Experience
  • 2 years work experience in emergency nutrition work and implementation of feeding programmes
  • Experience in nutrition assessments and understanding of nutritional surveillance and information systems with strong computer skills and knowledge of SMART, Epi Info and SPSS data analysis packages
  • Excellent communication skills
  • ability to deal with donor agencies, government officials, and other NGOs;
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions independently
  • Extremely flexible with the ability to cope with stressful situations
  • Creative with an ability to work with limited resources
Languages

The multi-donor funded and FAO-managed Food Security and Nutrition Analysis Unit for Somalia (FSNAU) seeks to hire a Somali national professional who will be based in the Shabelle Regions with the core responsibilities of a Nutrition Field Analyst for all rural livelihood zones within the Middle and Lower Shabelle regions.

The Nutrition Field Analyst will report directly to the Nutrition Focal Point based in Mogadishu and the Nairobi based Regional Supervisor and FSNAU Nutrition Team Leader; and indirectly to the Chief Technical Advisor of the FSNAU; with overall supervision of the FAO Country Representative.

The Field Analyst will work in close consultation with the Nutrition Focal Point for Shabelle / Hiran, other Field Analysts, and other technical specialists.

The Field Analyst is under the direct supervision of the Regional Supervisor and Technical Manager and will be responsible for the following tasks:
  • Develop and submit annual, quarterly and monthly work plans in collaboration with supervisor
  • Collect monthly data from health facilities, selective feeding programs and others within area of responsibility
  • Analyze the nutrition information, and generate a monthly summary report on the estimated nutrition situation of the different population groups in the area of responsibility, as prescribed by the Nutrition Team,
  • Undertake emergency assessments in collaboration with the nutrition and food security colleagues
  • Participate in nutrition, food security and baseline surveys and assessments
  • Collaborate with the Food Security Analyst in your area of operation, as well as with other Field and Nutrition Analysts in neighboring districts and regions, and ensure consistency of food security and nutrition information
  • Identify vulnerable areas and key sources of information and make recommendations for further investigation
  • Support coordination of assessments and monitoring/surveillance activities within area of responsibility
  • Represent FSNAU in partner coordination meetings at the field level and report proceedings to Nairobi
  • Ensure that planned activities within area of responsibility are undertaken
  • Report regularly through email, telephone, and/or radio
Minimum Requirements and Skills
  • University degree in nutrition or public health
  • Minimum three years relevant work experience in nutrition related field in Somalia
  • Knowledge and experience with different methods of information collection and analysis
  • Strong critical thinking, English writing ability and computer skills
  • Ability to be impartial in the performance of one’s duties and responsibilities
  • Ability to communicate fluently in English and Somali
  • Good knowledge of the area and ability to travel regularly
