The multi-donor funded and FAO-managed Food Security and Nutrition Analysis Unit for Somalia (FSNAU) seeks to hire a Somali national professional who will be based in Mogadishu with the core responsibilities of an Urban and IDP Food Security Field Analyst.

The Field Analyst will report directly to the Nairobi-based FSNAU Urban and IDP Food Security Senior Analyst and Food Security Technical Manager; and indirectly to the Chief Technical Advisor of the FSNAU; with overall supervision of the FAO Country Representative.

The Field Analyst will work in close consultation with the FSNAU Food Security Field Analyst in Lower Shabelle region, other FSNAU Field Analysts, and technical specialists.

The Field Analyst is under the direct supervision of the Urban and IDP Food Security Senior Analyst and Technical Manager and will be responsible for the following tasks:
  • Develop and submit monthly work plans in collaboration with supervisor
  • Collect monthly food-security data from Mogadishu and Afgoye corridor, as prescribed by the supervisors
  • Analyze the information, and generate a monthly food security report on Mogadishu population and IDPs in Afgoye corridor
  • Undertake emergency assessments in collaboration with the food security and nutrition colleagues
  • Participate in food security, nutrition, and baseline surveys and assessments
  • Collaborate with the Nutrition Analyst in your area of operation, as well as with other Field Analysts (Food Security and Nutrition) in neighboring districts and regions, and ensure consistency of food security and nutrition information
  • Identify vulnerable areas and key sources of information and make recommendations for further investigation
  • Support coordination of assessments and monitoring/surveillance activities within area of responsibility
  • Represent FSNAU in partner coordination meetings at the field level and report proceedings to Nairobi
  • Ensure that planned activities within area of responsibility are undertaken
  • Report regularly through email, telephone, and/or radio
Minimum Requirements and Skills
  • University degree in related field
  • Minimum two years of relevant work experience in field assessments, urban, IDP food security or livelihoods assessments in Somalia
  • Knowledge and experience with different methods of information collection and analysis
  • Strong critical thinking, English writing ability and computer skills
  • Ability to be impartial in the performance of one’s duties and responsibilities
  • Sensitivity to the social and cultural environment of Somalia
  • Ability to communicate fluently in English and Somali
  • Good knowledge of the area and ability to travel regularly

Position Title: Health Coordinator 

Duty Station: Marsabit

Contract Period: 6 Months

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Responsible for overall smooth functioning and running of the health activities under the DFID funding
  • Conduct OJT and mentor health workers on primary health concept
  • Supervises staff activities on a daily basis and report performance.
  • Provides leadership, problem-identification, problem-solving, and encourages team efforts by modeling desired behavior and interaction
  • Compile project reports on timely and accurate manner
  • Assesses program effectiveness in reaching established goals
Qualifications / Experience (Minimum)
  • Possession of a BSC degree in public health/nursing/community health from an accredited college or university; or Higher Diploma in epidemiology with three years experience in management of primary health care programs AND
  • Three (3) years of administrative or management experience with primary responsibility for overseeing, monitoring, or coordinating a program providing health services
  • Three years experience in primary health care program management in ASAL districts of Kenya
  • Experience and responsibility for the oversight of large-scale public health programs, including program planning and implementation, development and monitoring of budgets, supervision of staff, and program evaluation.
  • Experience with day-to-day management, training, and supervision of staff
  • Ability to facilitate participatory meetings, training sessions, and planning activities with diverse community members and stakeholders.
  • Good working knowledge of MOH protocol.
  • Ability to conduct mentoring session with health workers at the health facilities.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, good report writing skills.
  • Knowledge of epidemiological principles and analytical skills
Position Title: Health Field Officer

4 Positions

Duty Station: (Marsabit South, Marsabit North, Marsabit Central and Sololo)

Contract Period: 6 Months

Reporting Date: 1st October, 2011

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Prepare work plan including all key health activities for the Districts/health facilities in consultation with MOPHS staffs
  • Develop key messages in health to the targeted beneficiaries, and ensure it is delivered appropriately.
  • Conduct on-job trainings to the facility health workers and community health workers at their respective place of work.
  • Monitor supplies stock levels and report to the supervisor for timely replenishment.
  • Organise and deliver supplies to the health facilities based on the stock levels.
  • Monitor the implementation of the activities and prepare regular progress reports, and other reporting requirements.
  • Work closely with other agencies with health and nutrition programs in Districts.
Qualifications / Experience (Minimum)
  • Possession of a Diploma in public health / nursing / community health from an accredited college or university;
  • Three years experience in primary health care program implementation in ASAL districts of Kenya.
  • Experience in on- job training of health workers, and supervision of health activities.
  • Good working knowledge of MOH protocol.

Job Purpose

To provide technical expertise on water and sanitation in Marsabit in order to deliver appropriate, sustainable and environmentally friendly water and sanitation interventions that meets the needs of the beneficiaries.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Selecting, modifying or designing appropriate water and sanitation infrastructure, and suitable community based maintenance and repair systems
  • Designing and ensuring the effective promotion of appropriate hygiene and sanitation messages
  • Developing a water and sanitation implementation and monitoring plan in a participatory manner with communities targeted
  • Preparing reports in line with the reporting schedule and to donor requirements.
  • Participate in designing and implementing surveys and assessments related to the field of water and sanitation when needed
  • Mobilization of community groups & training on HHWTS & hygiene promotion activities,
  • To assist the MoPHS through the DPHO and other relevant WASH Officers at County and district level in the formation of operational networking groups at community level on Health HWTS,
  • Developing proposals and budgets for water and sanitation projects in collaboration with the project team and partners
  • Representing WASH Sector coordination meetings at County and district level
Essential Experience
  • A minimum of 3 years experience in rural and/or peri-urban water and sanitation projects in developing countries and/or countries in transition.
  • Experience of water supply systems: network, gravity flow, drinking water quality and treatment etc.
  • Installation of ground water source development, wells and boreholes.
  • Project appraisals and management.
  • Project Monitoring and evaluation plus impact assessment
  • Experience of working with host governments and their agents, INGOs and national NGOs an advantage
  • Developing of new projects, writing proposals and responding to donor requirements
Qualifications and Skills
  • Degree/National diploma related to Public Health, Water and Sanitary Engineering or Civil Engineering
  • Technical competencies water designs and sanitation programs and sound financial skills. (e.g.budgeting)
  • Problem Solving skills, Strategic thinking and management

Function: To coordinate and oversee fit hygiene promotion activities including but not limited to coordinating field activities. Mounting and development of program activities.

Major Responsibilities:- 

To supervise and provide support to FH, water and sanitation programs, specifically but not limited to supervision for water and sanitation program at the community level to enhance completion of project activities as planned and with the projected impact.

Specific Duties:- 
  • To supervise the construction of FH/Kenya’s water and sanitation projects at the community level and staff under him/her
  • Hygiene and sanitation promotion and formulation of training modules
  • To ensure efficient and effective implementation of water and sanitation projects per the program design;
  • Programs plans implementation and report writing
  • Support the Program Manager in program design and targeting of new water and sanitation programs among other duties assigned.
Essential experience
  • A minimum of 4 years experience in rural and/or peri-urban WASH projects
  • Experience of water supply systems: network, gravity flow, drinking water quality and treatment etc.
  • Excellent report writing skills with experience of developing new projects, proposals and responding to donor requirements
  • Excellent computer skills with hands on planning and design software.
  • Posses a riding and driving license with at least five years of experience
  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.

Main Duties
  • Analyze large scale-data sets such as national censuses and demographic and health surveys
