Environment, Health & Safety Manager

Location: Eldoret.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage and Co-ordinate the Environmental, Health, Safety and Security (EHS), programmes at the Company in accordance with relevant laws & regulations
  • Participate in the formulation and implementation of the Safety Policy, Emergency Response Plan and Security policy.
  • Implement Company EHS policy to ensure the organisations standards and quality requirements are consistently achieved
  • Provide all regulatory reporting, both local and International.;
Qualifications
  • University Graduate in an Industrial related science.
  • Minimum 3 years relevant EHS work experience gained in a comparable job in a technical/industrial environment, preferably in the chemical or food industry;
  • Experience in managing teams and projects management as appertains to Health & safety
  • High level of integrity;
  • Thorough, results focused with ability to work under pressure;
  • Analytical with good communication, influencing and negotiating skills; as well as decision making skills;
  • Planning and organisation capability;

Christian Partners Development Agency (CPDA) is a non profit, non partisan, organization registered as a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) under the NGO coordination act (1990) in 1993.

Our programmatic focus is in two categories; governance and democracy, and integrated food security for sustainable livelihoods. These programmes are currently implemented in Kenya.

Traidcraft fights poverty through trade. A Christian response to poverty, it is best known as the UK’s leading fair trade organisation and is engaged in a wide range of trade and development activities. In East Africa, Traidcraft works to enable poor producers to grow their businesses, find markets and engage effectively in trade.

This includes working in the tea, honey and renewable energy sectors and in semi arid areas; and working to promote the availability of appropriate business services to enterprises.

CPDA and Traidcraft are jointly implementing a joint project aimed at increasing incomes for 30,000 small scale tea farmers through the utilization of land not currently under tea for other agribusiness opportunities.

Ultimately, the project will contribute to reduced poverty and improved livelihoods among small scale tea farmers in Kenya.

We are looking to recruit CPDA Project Field Coordinator to support field coordination for successful implementation of the project. Reporting to the CPDA Project Manager, the successful candidate will be a proactive self starter, with strong community mobilisation, training, organisational skills and experience in a market-oriented business or NGO programme supporting small enterprise development.

A track record of successfully developing and managing projects is important. The successful candidate will be based in Nyeri.

Key Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience:
  • Applicants must have a minimum of 2 years working experience in an NGO.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, business, entrepreneurial and community development related disciplines.
  • Training in Project Cycle Management and Participatory Monitoring and Evaluation would be an added advantage.
  • Proficiency in Computers especially Microsoft office (Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Word, Publisher, Outlook).
Competences required:
  • A team player capable of working with other field staff to deliver results within deadlines.
  • Project proposal writing/resource mobilization, report writing, analytic and presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of tea sector issues including alternative enterprises to support tea farmers.
  • Understanding of rights and livelihoods projects in design and implementation.
  • Understanding governances, development and enterprises landscape of the region will be an added advantage.
  • Ability to ride a motorbike will be an added advantage.

Laboratory Maintenance Assistant Job Vacancy in Kericho Kenya - The Walter Reed Project


The US Army Medical Research Unit-Kenya (USAMRU-K) / Henry Jackson Foundation for Medical Research International (HJF MRI) ‘The Walter Reed Project’ HIV Program - Kericho is seeking to fill the position below.

The HIV Program carries out HIV AIDS vaccine and therapeutic research studies and supports HIV prevention, care and treatment programs in southern Rift Valley.

Laboratory Maintenance Assistant

Job summary:

Maintain all laboratory equipment to meet required standards. This will include installation, calibration, repairs and routine maintenance.

The officer in this position will be expected to spend at least 33% of his/her time giving support to laboratories at the PEPFAR partner sites.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in servicing and repairing laboratory equipment in Kericho and at the PEPFAR partner sites.
  • Operate and maintain the Liquid Nitrogen plant.
  • Ensure that the laboratory is adequately supplied with water and electricity at all times.
  • Repair and maintain electricity plugs and cables.
  • Ensure that all generators are duly serviced and have sufficient fuel all the time.
  • Ensure that fire extinguishers are placed in strategic points and are in good working condition.
  • Ensure that the fire alarm system and emergency exits are operating well all the time.
  • Uphold adherence to prescribed safety standards by self as well as by external maintenance persons/teams.
  • Submit maintenance charts weekly/monthly /annually or as required.
  • Assist in the development of equipment maintenance SOPs.
  • Perform preventive maintenance of freezers, fridges and air conditioners.
  • Perform other relevant duties assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Diploma in medical engineering from a recognized institution.
  • At least five years working experience in a busy medical laboratory. Preference will be given to applicants who have served in a medical research laboratory.
  • Must have ability to maintain and repair freezers and fridges.
