The Position
Reporting to the Legal Documentation Manager the job’s purpose is to provide legal support and solutions to the Corporate Business teams while working with external lawyers to adopt and implement best practices
Key roles and responsibilities
- Preparation and issuance of quality credit documentation, specifically facility offer letters and other internal documentation in line with the approved credit application, credit policies and procedures, prudential guidelines and other relevant legislation within agreed TAT(Turn Around Time)
- Ensure the quality of securities held by the Bank in respect of corporate facilities given. This includes issuance of proper instructions for preparation and registration of external security documents, follow up for documentation and review after registration and before disbursement of facilities.
- Preparation, issuance and vetting of undertakings relating to corporate facilities and securities.
- Preparation and issuance of Certificate of Compliance upon security perfection to facilitate disbursement of facilities.
- Maintain suitable system to track deferred securities and compliance documents for facilities availed before full compliance in respect of corporate accounts and ensuring follow up and closure.
- Maintain accurate registers capture required data in the documentation reports.
- Tracking of Service Level Agreements with different departments and service providers to ensure quality service and ensure that management and departmental reports and any other reports required are prepared and handed in within set deadlines.
- Providing high quality legal and operational support and Consistency in adherence to and effective application of established policies, processes, procedures and tools in achieving optimal efficiency and cost containment.
- Research and provision of quality credit legal advice relating to contracting, facilities structuring and lending generally in liaison external legal counsel where necessary.
- Act as a contact for Corporate Relationship Managers, other relevant units and external lawyers.
- Training of business teams and analysts on the legal requirements and thresholds as regards credit documentation.
Qualifications & Skills
- Law degree from a reputable learning institution
- Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with a current practicing license
- 3 years post admission experience
- 3 years’ experience in handling general legal matters in a reputable institution/legal firm
- Must have a minimum of 2 years practical experience in credit documentation
- Must have excellent facilities drafting skills
- Must have good knowledge of all bank’s products on offer for retail customers
- Must have the ability to prioritize work and deliver high quality output within tight deadlines
- Must have attention to detail
- Must have ability to thrive under work pressure
- Must have high follow through ability
- Must have strong interpersonal, negotiating and communications skills
- Should have excellent organisational skills and analytical and computer skills
