The ILO/IPEC SNAP project
is supporting the effective implementation of Kenya’s National Action
Plan (NAP) for the Elimination of Child Labour in Kenya 2004 -2015
(Revised 2008), which aims to eliminate all the worst forms of child
labour in Kenya by 2015.
The project, which is
being implemented in 3 districts; Busia, Kilifi and Kitui (with an
overall coordination office in Nairobi) started in February 2010 and
will come to an end in November 2013.
The immediate objectives of the SNAP project are:
The immediate objectives of the SNAP project are:
- At the end of the project, relevant national policies, programmes and legislation harmonized with the National Action Plan to eliminate child Labour and enforced
- At the end of the project, the capacity of national and local authorities and social partners is enhanced to support the effective implementation of the National Action Plan
- By the end of the project, effective models for establishing child labour free areas are tested in three (3) Districts with documented processes and experiences
Description of the Assignment:
ILO/ IPEC is in the
process of producing final reports for certain activities (Studies and
Workshops) for the year 2013 based on the workshop report on network to
create and expand child labour focal points with social partners and
line government ministries and the situation analysis on the learning
environment for children withdrawn/ prevented from child labour studies
from thee districts.
This term of reference is
to contract the services of an editor to offer editorial services for
four, 60 page documents on A4 page size written in English and to ensure
the reports are standardized, uniform and ready for publication.
Therefore by this ToR, ILO/ IPEC is requesting for technical and financial proposal from qualified editors.
Description of the Tasks and Activities:
- Provide extensive, highly professional editing and proofreading of the four reports.
- Content revision and proof-reading of the four reports. Where clarification and text consultation will be required, the consultant editor will liaise with the ILO/ IPEC office for purposes of re-writing.
- Language and grammar revision. The report must be revised in the English language, US version.
- To tighten the report into one flowing narrative devoid of verbose, repetitions, repetitive and unnecessary details.
- Texts must be delivered in Garamond 12.
- All pages must be numbered, except for the cover pages. Only preliminary pages should be numbered in roman numerals.
- Percent must be written in words with no spacing in between, except when in brackets when the numerical figure (%).
Remuneration: The ILO/ IPEC will fund this exercise and this will be discussed by the consultant based on his/ her financial proposal.

Required Qualification and Expertise:
- At least a Bachelors’ Degree in communication or media studies.
- At least five years’ experience in editing and proofreading publications such as magazines, reports, newspapers, periodicals, journals, etc.
- Proven track record and extensive experience in the provision of editorial services in a media or publishing house; and in a deadline driven environment
