Department Description
Thank you for your interest in the Kenya Airways Internship Program. Three (3) Month internships are available in most of our business units which include Finance, Ground Services, Commercial, Technical, Human Resources, Information Systems, Flight Operations, Operations Control Centre and Cargo.
The internship will offer you a great opportunity to gain valuable experience in your chosen field as well as assist you to develop skills that will provide you with an advantage in the job market.
In addition, you will gain real business experience and exposure in a leading company that is truly the Pride of Africa.
Brief Description
The purpose of the Program is to provide an opportunity for university and college students to become familiar with the operations of Kenya Airways, and to acquire work experience at the professional level through on-the-job training as part of the course requirements, during vacations before resuming studies.
Detailed Description
During the internship, students shall be placed in one of the departments or units of Kenya Airways and, to the extent possible, shall be given assignments relevant to their current studies.
Before the end of the program, the interns must submit a brief report about their experience/ learning in Kenya Airways and provide ideas and suggestions that can help improve the Program in future years.

Requirements

·         A citizen of Kenya A student pursuing an undergraduate degree/College diploma in an accredited university/college, who will continue his/her graduate studies or graduate right after the period of the internship.
·         Have a minimum grade of B (plain) in KCSE or equivalent O’level certification

·         Candidates afforded internship in the past by Kenya Airways are not eligible to apply

Conditions

·         Kenya Airways does not provide medical insurance cover for Interns. Those selected for internship will be required to submit proof of medical insurance while at Kenya Airways.
·         Since the hiring for the Internship Program is done locally, Kenya Airways does not pay transportation costs whatsoever.
·         Because Internship Program is addressed to students who are pursuing their degree programs or diploma programs, participation in the program will not extend beyond three (3) months.

1.   Letter from learning institution requesting for internship and confirming that this is part of the course requirement
2.   Original and copy of KCSE/GCSE Certificate
3.   Certificate of Good Conduct
4.   Insurance cover

Job Summary

Perform the duties of an FAA Licensed pilot and Mechanic for Samaritan’s Purse Mission Aviation Services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Fly and maintain Samaritan’s Purse operated aircraft;
  • Performs pilot duties as needed or assigned;
  • Files flight plans as needed or assigned;
  • Obtains weather data and interprets data based on flight plan;
  • Completes aircraft weight and balances for flights;
  • Loads and unloads passenger’s luggage in aircraft;
  • Keeps assigned aircraft charts and software updated;
  • Keeps the aircraft clean, neat, and polished when home and away from the home base including sanitizing the aircraft restroom facilities after each flight;
  • Assists in the maintenance, repair, and cleaning of SP facilities.
  • Works with the FAA as assigned;
  • Represents Samaritan’s Purse as a professional when dealing with donors, government officials, and others;
  • Assists with office duties and other duties as assigned;
  • Perform pre-flight and post flight cheques as needed to ensure safety
  • Maintain a strong Christian witness to colleagues, vendors, charitable beneficiaries, and the general public.
  • Attend daily morning devotions and participate in prayer support for the ministry, its donors and volunteers;
  • Maintain a strong Christian witness to colleagues, vendors, charitable beneficiaries, and the general public;
  • Assess, manage, and report critical physical, emotional, or spiritual concerns of supervised staff;

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must maintain a personal relationship with and be a consistent witness for Jesus Christ, as well as able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Education / Experience Needed

  • Fifth year college or university program certificate; or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Twelve credit hours of college-level Biblical studies.
  • FAA First Class Medical Certificate.
  • Pilot certificates. Must possess a valid FAA Commercial or ATP pilot certificate with Multi Engine and Instrument Ratings.
  • Minimum of 1500 flight hours total time. More than 2500 flight hours desired.
  • Must have an FAA A&P mechanic certificate, or equivalent, with a minimum of one year experience.
  • Language Ability. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors;
  • Mathematical Skills. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations;
  • Reasoning Ability. Ability to define problems collects data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Duties and responsibilities of Investigator in Chief include:
  • conducting, Accident Investigation assignments as the Investigator in Charge (IIC),compiling reports following investigations and making safety recommendations;
  • representing Kenya as the Country’s accredited representative in accidents being conducted by other states outside Kenya;
  • monitoring implementation of recommendations made following accident investigation by Kenya or any other State;
  • monitoring implementation of ICAO Standards and recommended practices by Kenya Accident Investigation Department and making recommendations on review of the procedures manual as a result;
  • administration and development of Aircraft Accident Investigation and prevention programmes;
  • developing and implementing training programmes for Accident Investigators; and
  • advising the Director on Policy Matters affecting Aircraft Accident Services in the Country.

WFP’s Regional Aviation Safety Office based in Nairobi, is seeking to recruit a qualified Kenyan national to fill the post of National Aviation Safety Officer in support of its humanitarian air operations in Kenya, Sudan, Somalia, Tanzania and Uganda.

Key tasks and responsibilities: Under the direct supervision of Regional Aviation Safety Officer the National Aviation Safety Officer will be responsible for the following duties:
  • Ensure the effectiveness of the aviation safety program and data collection in the region.
  • Perform aviation safety and quality monitoring.
  • Maintain a safety management information system and database locally.
  • Assist safety and quality processes including audits and inspections
  • Identify aviation safety hazards and ensure that accurate reporting and internal quality control systems are functioning and that all relevant records are maintained.
  • Perform follow-up and analysis of occurrences using such methods as: trend monitoring, deep treatment (single occurrence-investigative needs), precursor detection (data mining), risk assessment & classification (prioritisation of oversight), statistics, standard reports and analysis workbenches, and remedial action monitoring.
  • Ensure data quality, data entry and effective monitoring processes.
  • Enhance air transport operations’ and service providers’ reporting systems and data sharing.
  • Perform risk assessment and regarding the findings perform corrective actions.
  • Disseminate significant safety information to all concerned parties.
  • Enhance service providers’ safety culture and promotion of safety awareness.
  • Ensure that all staff is adequately trained. Train safety and air transport personnel to use aviation safety information system prior to safety and quality monitoring and risk management. Identify any additional training needs to achieve high working standards.
  • Assist in the implementation of the aviation safety information system and network
  • Supervise staff as required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications: 
  • University degree in business administration, engineering, computer science, quality assurance, technical, statistics or management; and with equivalent professional operational experience in aviation. Training and knowledge of aviation is an essential qualification, with a recognized commercial pilot, aircraft engineer, or dispatching license. 
  • Experience: At least 5 years of progressively responsible, practical commercial aviation and professional experience, with at least one or more years experience with safety or quality assurance programmes. Job related experience in working in the field of commercial aviation of which at least one year or more was closely related to humanitarian air operations or food aid related work. Adequate knowledge and experience of aircraft technical, flight operations or air traffic management sectors. Proficiency in Windows (MS Word, Excel), database experience. 
  • Language: Fluency in both written and oral English. 
  • Other desirable skills: Training and /or experience in aviation safety management and proven interest to develop aviation safety. Additional computer knowledge such as use of graphical, spreadsheet and other software packages.

For aircraft maintained by ALS Ltd
  • To carry out and/or certify routine, unscheduled and corrective maintenance on Bombardier Dash 8 and/or Beechcraft 1900 series aircraft, as permitted by the company authorization:
  • Assist in carrying out routine, unscheduled and corrective maintenance on other aircraft types.
  • Have a minimum of three years experience.
  • Certifying Engineer on the Dash 8 and PW 120 series.
  • Must be willing to work outside Kenya on rotation.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Ensure that work is carried out to the required specification and standards;
  • Ensure that regulatory and safety requirements are met;
  • Supervision of staff as required
  • Other duties as directed by the Base Maintenance Manager and/or Line Maintenance Manager.

Minimum Qualification
  • Kenyan Civil Aviation Authority basic “A” and “C” (turbine) License;
  • Having received initial type training on:
    •  Bombardier Dash 8 classic series, incl. P & W PW100 series engines;
    •  Beechcraft 1900 series, Incl. P & W PT6A series engines;
  • At least 2 years of type –related practical experience, base and line Maintenance, in the capacity of certifying engineer.

1. Deputy Director, Human Capital

Reporting to the Director, the successful candidate will have overall responsibility for the management of the Human Capital function.


The key objective will be to steer the formulation and implementation of the Service Human Capital strategies, policies and procedures to ensure efficient and effective acquisition, placement, development and retention of the required Human Capital capacity.


Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Formulating and reviewing Human Capital policies and ensuring efficient implementation;

2. Head of Customer Service

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Ensure consistency in the appropriate and effective use of service recovery methods by setting the customer relations standards.
  • Monitor overall effectiveness of Customer Relations response to and retention of customers.
  • Acknowledge online and offline customer complaints, compliments or suggestions (opportunities to improve) to assure customers and indicate cause of action.

3. Senior Scientist Ecological Monitoring

Reporting to the Head of Ecological Monitoring, the overall responsibility will be to implement ecological monitoring programmes as per the approved policies.

  • Implementing KWS ecological monitoring programmes
  • Ensure projects and departmental resources are properly utilized and accounted and reporting timely and of a high technical standard.
  • Develop and maintain linkages with relevant local and external researchers, institutions and other stakeholders involved in Kenya’s biodiversity monitoring programs, and take overall responsibility for proper use & management of departmental resources.

4. Marketing Manager

Reporting to the Head of Marketing and Business Development, the overall responsibility will be planning, designing, co-ordinating KWS marketing and business activities and production of publicity materials on various products to the target markets.


Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop and formulate and review Marketing Policies & strategies.
  • To ensure effective management of all outside agencies and suppliers relevant to the marketing function.
  • Liaise with various tourism managers to develop written briefs to outside suppliers (e.g. designers, copy, writers, reproduction houses, printers, advertising agencies editors etc.
  • Develop and execute marketing materials covering all aspects of the organization including parks, facilities offered, etc, for the benefit of the organization. This involves creating, writing, publishing and distributing marketing materials
  • Develop specifications for work which facilitates creativity, but which ensures cost effectiveness.
  • Develop promotional campaigns to encourage tourists to visit terrestrial parks.
  • Identify and create a range of marketing and information materials/publications e.g. brochures, maps, guidebooks etc. for profitable sale to tourists
  • Sourcing and managing slides, photos and images for use in KWS information materials and publications
  • Create and design branding identity for products and services.
  • Manage marketing and publicity requirements for products and services.
Job Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration/ Marketing or equivalent from a recognized university.
  • Diploma in Marketing
  • At least 5 years experience in a similar organization.
  • Demonstrated track record in developing and implementing Marketing Strategies.
  • Team player with excellent managerial, organization and interpersonal skills.
  • Attributes of design and advertising, Communication, report writing, problem solving and negotiation skills are a must.
  • Should be a member of a relevant professional body.

5. Helicopter Pilot

Reporting to the Chief Pilot the overall responsibility for the successful candidate will be to undertake aerial surveillance for effective provision of wildlife management services.


Duties and Responsibilities
  • Flying KWS helicopters with clients and staff.
  • Participating in security operations.
  • Participating in aerial wildlife management activities –darting of animals & census.
  • Any other duty assigned by the chief pilot.
Job Requirements
  • Must be a Kenyan citizen.
  • Must be in possession of Commercial Helicopter Flying License (CPL) or above.
  • Minimum 1000 hours Gas Turbine helicopters.
  • Minimum of 100 hours in Bell helicopters.
  • Must be ready to cope with off base field operations.
  • Must be ready to undertake a mandatory paramilitary conversion course if not an ex-uniformed officer.
Additional advantages if;
  • Rated in both 206 and 407 models
  • Training in Air Operations safety

Duties and responsibilities

The following are duties and responsibilities:
  • to ensure safe operation of company aircrafts,
  • to cooperate with the maintenance department ensuring that the technical status of the company airplanes is kept on a high level,
  • to ensure that all crew members are familiar with the laws, regulations and procedures pertinent to the performance of their duties,
  • to coordinate and supervise the divisions below him, as depicted on the company organization chart, to determine all flight operational standards and practices, and to ensure their compliance with all relevant national and international regulations and with the provisions of the AOC,
