Library of the Year Award (Maktaba Award) 2012

 The Kenya Library Association, the Goethe-Institut and the Jomo Kenyatta  Foundation invite all libraries and information centres in Kenya to participate in the  3rd edition of the Library of the Year Award (Maktaba Award) that will be announced in September 2012.

The Award recognizes excellence in the provision of library and information  services in Kenya.  Interested libraries are requested to submit their profiles, clearly  highlighting the unique features that would make them qualify for the Award, by  outlining the following:
  • Currency, diversity and relevance of the library collection
  • Innovation and creativity in service provision
  • Application of modern technologies in library services
  • Efforts towards collection, preservation and dissemination of local content and indigenous knowledge
  • Library services for multicultural readers
  • Networking and any other value-addition initiatives the library is undertaking
The following categories of libraries are eligible to participate: School, Special/Research/Corporate/, Public/Community, Government and Academic. Selected libraries will be assessed by an independent panel of judges.

National Gender and Equality Commission Design of the Commission Logo Competition

 The National Gender and Equality Commission is a constitutional commission established under article 59 of the constitution.

The commission’s mandate is to promote gender equity and non discrimination in accordance with article 27 of the constitution.

The commission target groups are; youth, children, women, persons with disabilities, older persons, minorities and marginalized persons. 

The commission is calling for interested designers to design a suitable corporate logo. 

The proposed logo should factor in commission’s target groups, be of appealing colors that shall also be adopted as the colors of the commission.
 
A hard copy of the proposed LOGO shall be submitted to the commission with soft copy on a CD.
 
The submitted logos will be appraised by National Gender and Equality Commission.
 
The winners will be awarded as follows:
  • First Price: Ksh. 100,000
  • Second Prize: Ksh. 75, 000
  • Third Prize: Ksh. 50, 000
The winning design shall be the property of the National Gender and Equality Commission.

Kenya Trade Network Agency (KENTRADE) - Logo Design Competition

 The Kenya Trade Network Agency (KENTRADE) is a State Corporation established under the State
Corporations Act (Cap 446) of the Laws of Kenya.

The principal objective of the Agency is to establish operationalize and manage a National Electronic Single Window System and to facilitate trade. 

The National Electronic Single Window System shall serve as a single entry point by integrating electronic systems of public and private entities involved in receipting, processing and approving documents relating to international trade transactions. 

KENTRADE requires a logo and tagline which will reflect the organization’s mandate and corporate focus. 

In view of this, interested individuals and/or firms are invited to participate in a public competition to design a corporate logo and tagline that correctly and distinctly defines the mandate.
 
Competition Guidelines
 
The logo must be clear and distinctly identifiable for effective application on all corporate materials, website and other relevant platforms.
 
The logo shall be presented in two versions:
  • Black and white
  • Full Colour (high resolution)
Entry should be submitted on A3 size paper and in PDF, JPEG or TiFF soft copy, on a Windows readable compact disk.
 
The design shall be accompanied by a written description of its features and meaning.
 
Entrants in the competition should provide their names, postal address, e-mail address and day-time telephone number along with any other relevant information,
 
The design of the winning entry or any other entry that participates in the Competition, will, subject to necessary modification, be used in designing the KENTRADE’s logo
 
The best three entries will be awarded the following prizes:-
 
1. Best Entry: KShs. 100,000/=
 
2. 1st runner-up: KShs. 75,000/=
 
3. 2nd runner-up: KShs. 50,000/=
 
The competition is open to all interested individuals and firms in Kenya.
 
Any material, graphic software or other items prepared by an entrant in the competition shall belong and remain the property of KENTRADE.
 
The Agency shall reserve the right to register the winning logo as its Copy-right.
 
The judges’ decision is final and not open to any correspondence or appeal whatsoever.
 
The designs which shall be presented in plain sealed envelopes and marked “KENTRADE LOGO COMPETITION” should be delivered at Kenya Trade Network Agency offices located at Forodha House (Ground Floor) or posted to the following address:

Logo Design Competition No. ODPP/02/2011-2012

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions is a constitutional office established under Article 157 of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010, with the mandate of providing independent, professional, efficient and effective prosecution service to Kenyan Citizens.

In order to fulfil this mandate, the office hereby invites designers to participate in the competition of the official logo to reflect the mandate of the office.

Logo Design

The following are the guidelines, rules and regulations for the competition:-
  1. The design should be in black and white, colour and in high resolution. It should be submitted in 2 hard copies on A4 size paper and soft copy in windows compatible.
  2. The logo must be clear and distinctly identifiable for effective application.
  3. Entrants in the competition should clearly provide their names, postal address, e-mail address and daytime telephone number.
  4. The design shall be accompanied by a written description of its meaning and features.
  5. The design of either the winning entry or any other submission may be subject to necessary modification and adapted as the ODPP’s logo.
  6. The ODPP shall reserve the right to register the winning logo as its copyright.
  7. Any material, graphic software or other items prepared by an entrant in the competition shall belong to and remain the property of ODPP.
  8. The judges’ decision is final and will not be open to any correspondence or appeal whatsoever.
Reward:

The jury will select the winning logos which will be awarded in order of merit
  1. 1st position - Ksh. 150,000
  2. 2nd position - Kshs 75,000
  3. 3rd position - Kshs. 50,000

Salaries and Remuneration Commission Logo Competition

The Salaries and Remuneration Commission was established by the Constitution of Kenya, 2010 with the mandate to set and regularly review the remuneration and benefits of all State Officers and to advise the national and county governments on the remuneration and benefits of all other public officers.


In carrying out its mandate, the Commission has to take into account the principles of; fiscal sustainability of the public compensation bill, attraction and retention of requisite skills for service delivery, productivity and performance, transparency and fairness and equity.


The Salaries and Remuneration Commission is in the process of designing a Logo that will capture and symbolize the Commission's mandate and core principles.


To do this, it requires the contribution of creative Kenyan designers to assist in coming up with a logo that captures the mandate and core principles of the Commission.


The Logo competition is open to Individuals/ Firms/ Companies in Kenya.


General Guidelines


The following are the guidelines, rules and regulations for the competition:


    The design should be in black and white and in high resolution colour. It should be submitted in ten (10) hard copies on A4 size paper and a soft copy in PDF, JPEG or TiFF in a windows readable CD;
    The logo must be clear and distinctly identifiable for effective application on all Commission materials, website and other relevant platforms;
    The logo should include the name of the Commission;
    The logo should have the sum total of the core principles captured in a few words as a motto to enhance the artistic design;
    The design should be accompanied by a written description of its meaning and features;
    The entrants are required to identify possible colours for the Commission;
    Entrants in the competition should provide their names, postal addresses, email address and daytime telephone numbers;
    The Commission reserves the right to subject the winning logo to necessary modification for its use;
    The Commission reserves the right to register the winning logo as its copyright;
    Any material, graphic software or other items prepared by an entrant in the competition shall belong to and remain the property of the Commission; and
    The judges' decision is final and will not be open to any correspondence or appeal whatsoever.


Reward


The Jury will select the winning logos which will be awarded in order of merit as follows:


1. First position - Kshs. 150,000


2. Second position - Kshs. 50,000


3. Third position - Kshs. 25,000

Competition for the Design of a Logo for the Witness Protection Agency - Kenya

Introduction

The Kenya Witness Protection Agency is a body corporate established pursuant to Section 3A of the Kenya Witness Protection Act, Cap 79 Laws of Kenya.

The Agency’s mandate is derived from Section 3(b) (1), of the Witness Protection Act Cap 79 Laws of Kenya which confers power on the Agency to offer special protection on behalf of the State to intimidated and threatened witnesses and related persons and provide framework and procedure for giving this special protection.

The functions of the Agency in terms of Section 3C of the Act are:
  • Establish and maintain a Witness Protection Programme
  • Determine the criteria for the admission to and removal from the witness protection Programme
  • Determine the type of protection measure to be applied.
  • Advise any Government Ministry, Department, Agency or any other person on the adoption of strategies and measures on Witness Protection
  • Perform such other functions as may be necessary for the better carrying out of the Act
The overall aim of the Agency is to enhance the Rule of Law & Good Governance by facilitating access to justice for threatened and intimidated witnesses thus reducing impunity.

The Agency’s Core Values are professionalism; confidentiality; integrity and ethics; quality service delivery; teamwork; respect for diversity; objectivity and fairness.

Logo Design

The Agency invites artistic individuals to design a logo that depict/represent his/her understanding of the Witness Protection Agency.

Please note that the Agency color theme is light purple and should be incorporated in the design.

The design is to be submitted as a drawing as well as the soft copy in graphics.

The first three (1-3) designs chosen will be awarded cash prize as follows:

1. The 1st winning design – Ksh. 100,000

2. The 2nd winning design – Ksh. 75,000

3. The 3rd winning design – Ksh. 50,000

Introduction

The National Biosafety Authority (NBA) was established pursuant to the provisions of the Biosafety Act No 2, and came into operation on 12th February, 2009 with an overarching mandate of exercising general supervision and control over the transfer, handling and use of genetically modified organisms with a view to ensuring safety of human and animal health as well as the provision of an adequate level of protection of the environment.

NBA is the competent institution of the Government of the Republic of Kenya to regulate all activities involving GMOs in food, feed, research, industry, trade and environmental release.

Vision: A world class biosafety agency

Mission: To ensure safe development, transfer, handling and use of genetically modified organisms

Core Values: In the implementation of the Authority’s Strategic Plan and achieving its mandate, the Authority is guided by the following core values:

a) Integrity;

b) Professionalism;

c) Transparency;

d) Accountability.

Functions of the National Biosafety Authority

The functions of the NBA as provided for by the Biosafety Act 2009 include:-

a) To consider and determine applications for approval for the transfer, handling and use of genetically modified organisms(GMOs), and related activities in accordance with the provisions of this Act;

b) To coordinate, monitor and assess activities relating to the safe transfer, handling and use of genetically modified organism in order to ensure that such activities do not have adverse effect on human health and the environment;

c) To co-ordinate research and surveys in matters relating to the safe development, transfer, handling and use of genetically modified organisms, and to collect, collate and disseminate information about the findings of such research, investigation or survey;

d) To identify national requirements for manpower development and capacity building in biosafety;

e) To advise the Government on legislative and other measures relating to the safe transfer, handling and use of genetically modified organisms;

f) To Promote awareness and education among the general public in matters relating to biosafety;

g) To establish and maintain a biosafety clearing house to serve as a means through which information is made available facilitate the exchange of scientific, technical, environmental and legal information and experience with, living modified organisms; and

h) Perform any other function which is incidental to the performance of any of the foregoing functions.

Towards the definition of an image and brand for the Authority, NBA wishes to develop a logo for the authority through a competition open to the general public

Interested persons are invited to participate in the competition by designing a logo which best interprets the mandate and functions of the Authority.

The best three entries will be rewarded in Kenya shillings, as indicated here below.

  • 2nd Runner up 50,000.00
The following terms and conditions will apply.

1. The competition is open to the general public.

2. Any material, graphic, software or otherwise submitted by the entrant in the competition, shall belong to and remain the property of National Biosafety Authority

3. A panel of experts will be appointed to evaluate the submissions and select the best three entries.

4. The decision by the panel of experts will be final.

5. NBA will communicate the outcome of the competition to all entrants.

Roads 2000 Logo and Moto Design Competition


The Ministry of Roads, through the Kenya Roads Board (KRB), Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA), Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) and the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) is finalizing the Roads 2000 Strategic Plan for the period 2010- 2017.

The Strategic Plan is being developed with support from the International Labour Organization (ILO).

The Roads 2000 Strategy is an approach to road construction, maintenance and management, that ensures optimum utilisation and development of locally available resources wherever they are technically and economically feasible and in a socially responsive and environmentally sustainable manner.

The local resources include labour, construction materials, contractors and consultants.

A more detailed description of the Roads 2000 Strategy can be obtained from the KRB’s offices located in the address given at the end of this advert. The description can also be viewed and downloaded from KRB’s website (www.krb.go.ke). This advert is also available and can be downloaded from the same website.

Towards the definition of an image and brand for the Roads 2000 Strategy, Kenya Roads Board wishes to develop a logo and motto for the Roads 2000 Strategy, through a competition open to the general public.

Interested persons are invited to participate in the competition by designing a logo and a motto which best interpret the Roads 2000 Strategy. The motto should be limited to four words.

The competition will be open from 19th October 2011 to 15th November 2011.

The best three entries will be rewarded in Kenya shillings, as indicated here below.

- Best entry 100,000.00

- 1st Runner up 75,000.00

- 2nd Runner up 50,000.00

The following terms and conditions will apply
  1. The competition is open to the general public
  2. Any material, graphic, software or otherwise submitted by the entrant in the competition, shall belong to and remain the property of the Kenya Roads Board.
  3. A panel of experts will be appointed to evaluate the submissions and select the best three entries
  4. The decision by the panel of experts will be final
  5. KRB will communicate the outcome of the competition to all entrants.
The logo and motto design shall be enclosed in a plain sealed envelope, marked “COMPETITION FOR LOGO AND MOTFO DESIGN FOR ROADS 2000 STRATEGY - DO NOT OPEN BEFORE OPENING DAY” and be posted, submitted or delivered to:

The students from local Universities who submitted their designs earlier can submit new designs.

The designs submitted earlier will be considered together with the new entries.
