Africa International University - Funds Development and Mobilization Officer Job in Kenya

Africa International University (formerly Nairobi Evangelical Graduate School of Theology – NEGST) is a private Chartered International Christian University with its main Campus located in Karen, Nairobi. 
We have Cohorts in Eldoret and Nairobi among other partnerships.

We are seeking highly motivated professionals to fill the following positions as we experience tremendous growth:
Funds Development and Mobilization Officer

Applicants must have University Degree in Commerce or Communication with specialization in marketing and/or fundraising. 
Relevant Masters and postgraduate qualification will be added advantage.

Proven work experience of not less than 3 years in fundraising and/or marketing in a large multi-sector organization is required. 
Similar productive experience in fundraising with a non-governmental organization (NGO) with international exposure and a good portfolio of local and international fundraising contacts or associates will be definite advantage.

Job Purpose:

Reporting to the Vice Chancellor, this position shall be responsible to Plan, coordinate and implement specific assigned fund raising activities consistent with the approved fund raising goals of Africa International University.

Key Result Areas:
  • Increased funding for AIU and realization of Transforming Hope Capital Campaign.
  • Communications and proposal writing in regard to funds development.
  • Establishment of a Funds Development Department as part of the AIU Institutional Development with a strategy and structure integrated with the AIU strategic plan
  • Research and develop new funding opportunities.
  • Maintain a Data Base for different constituents making contributions to AIU funds.
Main Responsibilities:
  • Write or assist in drafting fundraising/grants proposals and related written materials.
  • Prepare a long term, five year fundraising strategy to raise funds locally and internationally based on the AIU Transforming Hope Capital Campaign 2011-16.
  • Coordinate fundraising activities to include policies, strategies, prospect clearance and donor recognition with an aim of meeting set targets.
  • Maintain year-round communications with funding partners, including written reports, funding partners surveys and in-person meetings providing information on projects of interest to funding partners.
  • Represent AIU before a variety of individuals and groups, providing information concerning fundraising activities and programmes.
  • Prepare reports and analyses setting forth progress, trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions to the Management.
  • Develop and implement a plan to prospect and establish new corporate, foundation, church and donor relationships with a goal of increasing funds.
  • Maintain and grow relationships with current corporates, foundations, churches and donors with a goal of continued and increased donations from funding partners.
  • Develop an annual budget and detailed written operating plan local and international fundraising.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership and management within a team structure for transparent, effective and efficient fundraising efforts.
  • Work with Directors to develop revenue projections for the year.
  • Maintain and fulfill an accurate list of funding partners benefits.
  • Assist Director in determining fiscal requirements for development activities and prepare budgetary recommendations; monitor, verify and reconcile expenditure of budgeted funds.
  • Manage and control departmental expenditure within agreed budgets.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications and experience:
  • Holder of a degree in Commerce or Communication with specialization in marketing and/or fundraising. Relevant postgraduate qualification will be a distinct advantage.
  • Proven work experience of not less than five years in fundraising and/or marketing in a large multi-sector organization. Similar productive experience in fundraising with a non-governmental organization (NGO) with international exposure will be a definite advantage.
  • A good portfolio of both local and international fundraising contacts or associates will be an added advantage.
  • Ability to internalize and articulate the AIU Vision and Mission and relay it through fundraising activities together with building and maintaining beneficial networks.
  • Results and goal oriented with proven track record.
Skills, Abilities and Personal Attributes:
  • Must be a committed evangelical Christian.
  • Excellent and proven knowledge of proposal writing and project management skills.
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills with ability to meet deadlines of project assignments.
  • Competent and proficient in relevant computer packages.
  • Excellent networking skills and ability to penetrate various publics and work in a team.
  • Competent in conceptualization and execution of promotional and marketing strategies.
  • High level of integrity, honesty and accountability.
  • Flexibility and ability to travel widely.
