The Horn of Africa is an important departure point for people in mixed migration flows. Each
year thousands of people leave or pass through Somalia and neighbouring countries including
Yemen in the hope of finding a safer or brighter future elsewhere. The Regional Mixed Migration
Secretariat (RMMS) has been established to provide better coordination and support to agencies,
institutions and forums in the Horn of Africa and Yemen sub-region to improve the management of
protection and assistance response to people in mixed migration flows in the Horn of Africa and
across the Gulf of Aden or Red Sea in Yemen. The RMMS is hosted and managed by the Danish
Refugee Council regional office in Nairobi, and is seeking qualified candidates for the following
positions:
1. Project Officer
The Project Officer will assist the RMMS Coordinator in a wide range of activities as part of the
overall strategy of the Regional Mixed Migration Secretariat:
• Information management and research comprising sourcing, synthesizing and processing
information and data;
• Analysis of mixed migration data, strategies, policies and legislation, and production of
quality reports;
• Set up and manage a web portal to make information and analysis available to various
stakeholders.
• Contribute to advocacy, promotion of regional dialogue, networking and coordination
through facilitation of workshops and conferences;
• Assist the RMMS support to capacity building in the region in relation to mixed migration.
Requirements: Must possess Bachelor’s degree and preferably Master’s degree in International
Law or Political Sciences. Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in a similar role in information
management and research. Knowledge of human rights/protection, international refugee law, and
an understanding of mixed migration dynamics in the Horn of Africa region. Good IT command
and familiarity with management of template-style websites. Strong analytical and writing skills
and knowledge of one of the following languages is an added advantage: French, Arabic, Somalia
or Amharic.
2. Project Assistant
The Project Assistant will offer support in sourcing, synthesizing and processing information and
data.
• Assist in gathering and dissemination of data and information related to mixed migration.
• Assist in establishment of a virtual resource centre and assist with the management of a
web portal in order to make information and analysis available to various stakeholders.
• Assist with the backup and support of the coordination of research initiatives in areas of
interest related to mixed migration.
Requirements: University degree and minimum of 2-3 year’ experience in similar role involving
information management, research and communications. Some human rights/protection
knowledge and track record in the humanitarian agenda. Good IT command and knowledge of
maintaining template-style website. Strong analytical and writing skills and knowledge of one of
the following languages is an added advantage: French, Arabic, Somalia or Amharic.
