Health & Safety Officer

The KEMRI-Wellcome Trust Research Programme is well known internationally for its work in global health including a diverse clinical research programme including high-profile vaccine trials (including malaria, Ebola and anti-pneumococcal vaccines) and trials in management of acute illness with translation into global health policy.

The Programme is searching for a qualified, dynamic and motivated person to fill the position of: -  

Health & Safety Officer
 

This is a senior and exciting position whose purpose is to ensure the Programme’s compliance with legal and other regulatory requirements regarding Health and Safety in the organization’s premises. 

 

The post holder will also work closely with Senior Managers, and establish close working relationships with all members of staff across the entire organization, including those working in its satellite research sites.

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the responsibilities will cover, among others; coordinating the implementation of the Health and Safety programs which are consistent with the Programme’s Health and Safety Policy.

Job Purpose: To provide professional technical specialist support and service in respect of all process equipment so that equipment availability and efficiency is optimized and improved and losses and risks are minimized.
 

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities

• Perform the day to day total productive maintenance to ensure that machinery are maintained in an effective, up to date accurate manner.
• Complete equipment/parts requisition
• Maintain equipment
• Maintain a safe working environment
• Coach and assess customers
• Manage, implement and improve continuous projects
• Conduct audits
• Manage personal development and performance
• Ability to communicate/interact with the client, technicians and the office to ensure flow of projects and customer requirements
• Ability to fault find in a logical and professional manner
• Attend to breakdowns telephonically and physically

Qualifications and education required

• Diploma/University Degree in Mechanical  Engineering
• 3-4 years in engineering experience
• Solid and proven technical background
• Very good negotiation and communication skills
• Team player
• Self-motivated, independent, solution orientated, deadline driven individual with strong time management skills
• Project a professional image, lead by example, encourage team work and compliance with work processes and procedures

Electrical Service Technician

Job Responsibilities
 

 

Customer Service

• Responds to customer service calls (on–‐site, or on–‐line; during the day and after Hours) and answer support phone lines related to Service and application issues.
• Analyzes full requirements of system involved and checks and tests system components.

Troubleshooting and Repairs

• Troubleshoots and repair customer equipment.
• Performs preventative maintenance and diagnostics on automation system and components
• Ensures that systems are properly maintained and operating correctly
• Completes service repairs, replacements, upgrades, adjustments and calibration on automation systems and components.
• Attend to breakdowns telephonically and physically

Documentation

• Read all specification sheets on machines to be fully knowledgeable; have a working knowledge of how machine works
• Completes and submits written service orders for non-warranty as well as warranty products.

General

• Provides weekly status updates on After sales service on assigned accounts
• Escalates difficult problems to Management
• Completes and submits bi–‐weekly timesheets

Qualifications

• Diploma / University Degree in Electrical and/or Electronic Engineering or related field
• At least 3 years experience as a technician or field service technician
• Very strong analytical and troubleshooting skills of electrical & mechanical systems.
• Aware of design tools and techniques and ability to use all hand tools
• Good knowledge of Electrical and Electronic engineering and basic Mechanical aptitude.
• Self-motivated, independent, solution orientated, deadline driven individual with strong time management skills
• Build mutually beneficial relationships internally and externally
• Ability to drive

Accountant

Position: Accountant

Job Description

• Prepares asset, liability, and capital account entries by compiling and analyzing account information.
• Documents financial transactions by entering account information.
• Recommends financial actions by analyzing accounting options.
• Summarizes current financial status by collecting information; preparing balance sheet, profit and loss statement, and other reports.
• Substantiates financial transactions by auditing documents.
• Maintains accounting controls by preparing and recommending policies and procedures.
• Guides accounting clerical staff by coordinating activities and answering questions.
• Reconciles financial discrepancies by collecting and analyzing account information.
• Secures financial information by completing data base backups.

Required Skills / Special Qualifications

• 2-3 years of professional marketing experience
• Must be a CPA finalist
• Bachelor’s degree will be an added advantage
• Must take charge of the books to make sure they are at per all the time
