Job Summary: As a Technical Sales Executive, you will be responsible for developing new business opportunities and leading on special projects to achieve set targets. 

 
You will also be accountable for shaping and winning new business through client interaction to understand customers’ needs and problem statements and come up with business proposals to justify the relevance of engagement and system development.

You will act as the primary owner of key customer relationships and be the spokesperson within the organization on significant matters relating to policies, pursuits, capabilities and objectives for the key customers and provide recommendations to the company concerning strategies that will deliver sustainable and profitable business growth as well. 

You will also set financial and performance targets to develop viable businesses and ventures to be undertaken by the organization. 

You will need to ensure open and efficient communication channels exist between you and your supervisor in order for the business to run smoothly.

Primary Responsibilities:

Market Research
  • Carry out research of new technology, industry, market and related events, publications, and announcements; tracking individual contributors and their accomplishments to identify trendsetter ideas that will ensure business leadership, growth and continuity
  • Study integration of new venture with company strategies and operations; examining risks and potentials; estimating partners' needs and goals to develop negotiating strategies and positions
New Products and market Business and sales
  • Open up new markets and engagements that did not initially exist including boundary expansion and new product development
  • Developing a pro-active approach to establish and maintain professional relationships with new and potential clients that promote growth of business and market share in the industry
  • To interact with new and existing customers to create problem solving solutions to them that do not exist in the company portfolio
  • Actively and successfully manage the Sales and Business Development Process : lead generation, credentials pitch, asking questions; solution pitch, negotiation, close; handover to the technical account management team and follow up to ensure successful product delivery
Project Technical Sales
  • Make project proposals, pitch solutions and presentations to the relevant parties and close sales /partnership agreements for new businesses
  • Engage in deliberations with other organizations and stakeholders,
  • Work as a team and also as a leader in one’s own capacity and ensure that you maintain professional conduct and delivery of business
  • Liaise closely with the mainstream Technical Team, sales team as well as management while in their engagement to align the objectives and requirements of the new project with the overall organization strategy, priorities and objectives
  • Work and liaise closely with the technical team to create work plans and project plans for the execution of the new projects which are then discussed with the project stake holders to get an overall buying for the engagement
Business Plan / Budget Process
  • Contribute to the development of company’s business plan
  • Contribute toward the development of appropriate financial and performance targets
Reporting and any other duties
  • You will be reporting to the Director, Strategy and Business Development who shall be your supervisor
  • Your supervisor should be briefed on the progress and challenges of all areas mentioned above and you should propose recommendations for review

  • 2-4 years’ experience in technical sales engagement in a relevant corporate industry

Child Safeguarding: Level 3 - the responsibilities of the post require the post holder to have regular contact with or access to children or young people

Role Purpose:  The Pediatric counselor is responsible for field level implementation, inter-camp coordination and monitoring and evaluation of psychosocial support activities as well as providing leadership and guidance to Child Protection community workers at the CEWC and lay counselors. 

 
Provides direct counseling services to children identified or refered by SC sectors, community structures and other partners, deliver capacity building training for programme staffs, community structures and staff from partner agencies.

Scope of Role: 

Reports to: Child Protection Coordinator

Dimensions: Save the Children has supported children in Kenya since its Independence in 1963 and has had a consistent operational presence in the country since 1984. 

We provide support to children through developmental and humanitarian relief programmes delivered both directly and through local partners. Current programming focuses on child protection, child rights governance, education, health, HIV/AIDS, livelihoods, nutrition and WASH.

Save the Children has an operational presence in Dadaab Refugee Camp, Turkana, Bungoma, Habaswein, Mandera, and Wajir and has a liaison post in Garisa. Currently, we have a staff complement of approximately 350 staff and a confirmed budget of approximately US$15 million this year.

Role description of the Paediatric Counsellor: Save the Children has received funding from BPRM and UNHCR to provide psychosocial support for vulnerable children in the 4 camps. 

This role is expected to significantly enhance the psychosocial well-being of the vulnerable children through ongoing counselling support to not only support their emotional needs but to also build their resilience through the Community Education and Welfare Centres (CEWC) where the children will have a friendly space to learn, play and interact with their fellow peers in the camps. 

It is expected that the counsellor will provide the needed guidance to ensure that Save the Children meets this commitment to the children in line with Save the Children’s Theory of Change.

Save the Children will work with the government of Kenya through the Sub County Children’s office, the UNHCR and other stakeholders to facilitate the various interventions.  

Staff directly reporting to this post:  Lay counselors, CEWC Supervisors & Child Education and Welfare Centers (CEWC) Community workers, together with its support staff. 

Key Areas of Accountability:

Programme Delivery
  • Facilitate and coordinate provision of  professional counselling services for children with protection concerns by conducting play and art therapy, individual and group sessions and work with caregivers to address children concerns
  • Provide overall management of the CEWC centers to enhance the safety security and enhance the wellbeing of children in each of the CEWC’s.
  • Ensure the CEWC’s are within the recommended safety standards for child to play, learn and grow.
  • Conducting relevant training to programme staffs, community structures and staffs from partner agencies.
  • Lead in the development of annual detailed implementation plans; monitor performance against work plan deadlines, ensure accurate data collection on performance indicators.
  • Lead the implementation of the counselling KPI’s, including training and provision of ongoing counselling support to the targeted beneficiaries.
  • Support in the development of capacity enhancement sessions for the staff, conduct and/or supervise trainings for the community structures, CEWC Boards of Management, to ensure programming meets quality standards.
  • Plan, organize and implement quality community sensitization forums in partnership with the community workers.
Monitoring , Evaluation and Reporting
  • Work with the Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) team for monitoring and evaluation of programme activities including taking corrective action where necessary; preparation of Counselling reports, documentation of lessons learnt.
  • Document programme learning and ensuring it contributes to organizational advocacy.
  • Maintain an up to date database on counseling clients.
  • Ensure timely implementation of budgeted activities in addition to budget tracking and control.
  • Conduct/ensure regular follow-up visits to monitor the rehabilitation and reintegration of clients, and document changes identified.
Partnerships and coordination
  • Develop partnerships with the CEWC management committees to enhance community participation, ownership and sustainability of programmes by orienting  them on the project goals and to solicit their involvement in the implementation of the project especially the running of the CEWC’s.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with other aid agencies, governmental institutions and community level structures in order to promote community ownership and sustainability of CEWC initiatives.
  • Represent Save the Children in interagency working groups and camp coordination meetings.
Grants Management and Accountability
  • Coordinate with finance and awards team to ensure effective budget monitoring for the project in line with donor requirements and contractual obligations, including Grant opening, mid-term and closing meetings
  • Oversee project activities budget expenditures and ensure they are allowable and allocable according to SCI and donor regulations; review monthly Budget vs. Actual and expenditure sheets and collaborate with the finance department to ensure accurate expenditures and reporting.
  • Ensure timely production of activity/events reports as well as monthly reports as per the agreed timelines.

Qualifications and Experience
  • Good communication skills with fluency in written and spoken English and Kiswahili
  • Graduate degree in counseling or Psychology, with 6 years’ experience working with children is desirable
  • Knowledge of community based child protection approaches, preferably including experience in participatory approaches (PRA/PLA) and child participation methodologies.

Consultancy Service Invitation: Technical Assistance to the integration of Climate Change Adaptation and Natural Resource Management for Karamoja Cluster PEACE III Program
 
Mercy Corps works almost exclusively in conflict and post-conflict environments. 

We currently have programs in 42 countries; the vast majority of these are considered at high or moderately high risk for instability. 

While we recognize the difficulties operating in these environments, we believe that transitional environments offer tremendous opportunities for positive change. 

Since the late 1990s, Mercy Corps has implemented more than 100 peacebuilding programs in over 30 countries with specific emphasis on people-to-people approaches.

Together with its partner PACT, Mercy Corps is currently leading the implementation of a five year USAID funded PEACE III program in the Karamoja cluster. 

PEACE III is a cross border program being implemented in the Karamoja and Somaila cluster with the goal of strengthening cross-border conflict management in the Horn of Africa.

It is strengthening the horizontal and vertical linkages within and between local, national, and regional conflict management actors in Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia, Somalia and South Sudan.
 
Scope of Work
 
In consultation with Mercy Corps, the consultant shall:
  • Conduct contextual analysis of climate change, natural resource management and their contribution to the conflicts, including social/cultural attributes and key political economy in the selected corridor(s) – acknowledging regional trends/ dynamics.
  • The analysis will be based on secondary sources, MC’s project experience and expertise and additional field research as required. 
  • This contextual analysis will identify segmented profiles of the target group (s), in terms of potential outreach, existing networks and key demographics on vulnerability and coping strategies.
  • Familiarization with, and literature review of PEACE III program and its approach to integration of climate and cross border natural resource management;
  • Field visits to at least three sites in the cluster to gain a deeper understanding of climate change challenges and issues surrounding natural resource management and how they contribute to cross border conflicts;
  • Visiting local government entities and learning their approaches to climate change and natural resource management issues
  • Designing a user friendly guide detailing approaches and strategies to integrating climate change and resource management into PEACE III program. 
  • Should detail what climate change is, its contribution to conflicts, strategies for adapting to stress and shocks;
  • Facilitating a workshop for PEACE III staff and stakeholders on climate change issues and natural resource management.
Skills Required
 
The consult shall have the following skills and experiences:
  • Extensive experience of working on extensive pastoralism and marginalized environments in North Western Kenya and North Eastern Uganda
  • 5 years experience in applying natural resource management and climate change lenses to conflict management, systems thinking and working in partnership with others;
  • Strong communication skills and a willingness to work in a participatory and inclusive manner
  • Proven excellent facilitation skills
  • Advance degree in social sciences and foundational knowledge in subjects including, natural resource management, climate change and pastoralist systems, vulnerability and resilience, and conflict mitigation.
  • This consultancy is open to Ugandan Nationals or those from Karamoja Cluster Countries.
Timeline: The consultancy is expected to take 30 working days from the date of signing contract.
