Role: Registered Clinical Officer - Anaesthetist
 
Reports To: Center Manager
 
Liaises With: Clinical and Business Department.
 
Duty Station: Eastleigh Nursing Home, Nairobi.
 
Contract Type: Fixed Term- One year (Subject to renewal)
 
Gross Salary: Kshs. 60,000 – 70,000

General Responsibilities
  • Deliver local anaesthesia to patients requiring surgery.
  • Responsible for monitoring consumption, regular inventory, quantifying and ordering of medical supplies required by the operation theatre.
  • Responsible for the maintenance of standard antisepsis in the operation theatre.
  • Quantify and promptly order logistical requirements needed for sterilization.
  • Responsible for adequate sterilization of re-usable materials in the theatre.
  • Ensures proper packing, labelling, and storage of sterile materials, and inventory of supplies in theatre.
  • Supervises and monitors activities of other operation theatre team members.
  • Prepare sterile field including sponge and needle counts, documenting these on patient records.
  • Ensure clean up of operating room following surgery, including proper disposal of used supplies/sharps.
  • Carry out counselling of patients on reproductive health issues and other health matters.
  • In collaboration with the Centre Manager and Medical Officer, ensure that the centre complies with Marie Stopes Kenya policies and protocols for vocal local, infection prevention and emergency preparedness (including resuscitation). 
  • Report on operation theatre activities including regular updating of the Operation register book to Center Manager.
  • Participate in in-service training of hospital personnel – training plans made and training implemented.
  • Participate in training other Support staff and service providers on basic administration of anesthesia and intra operative patient monitoring.
  • Ensure resuscitation trolley/tray supplies kept in working order and drugs maintained appropriately.
  • Perform pre and post operative assessment of all patients for operation.
  • In liaison with the maternity team members, responsible for post operative care on the wards and follow up of discharged surgical/obstetric patients.
  • Responsible for monitoring and keeping a record of all of patients and ensuring confidentiality is maintained.
  • Fully participate in planned promotional activities as directed by Centre Manager.
  • In liaison with the Center Manager ensure that costs are maintained within the approved targets and income is generated from services offered to clients.
  • Take necessary steps to ensure that all centre clients are treated with sensitivity, respect, and consideration. 
  • Carry out routine client consultations in absence of theatre procedures.
Minimum Academic Qualification
  • Diploma in Clinical medicine from a recognised institution.
  • Higher Diploma in Anesthesia
  • Registered with Clinical Officers Council
Desired Skills and Attributes
  • Computer Literate.
  • Strong report writing skills.
  • Excellent written and spoken English.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including cultural sensitivity, assertiveness and negotiating skills.

Qualifications and Experience
  • Degree or diploma in food technology or related field
  • Two years experience working in a jaggery plant and related products.
Duties and responsibilities:
  • Organize for fast production start-ups before actual production begins and ensure that all hygiene practices are safeguarded.
  • Ensure that all operatives work at all times at such rates as will eventually result into attaining set targets.
  • Ensure that the Quality of products meet the stated customer requirements.
  • Monitor production process and ensure that the orders are achieved at the prescribed time to facilitate easy flow towards dispatch
  • Ensure complete separation of batches of cane, including maintaining the records of rejects and wastes, and the concomitant labeling of the product that comes from each batch.
  • Prepare the budget.
  • Ensure health and safety of workers and the entire facility.
  • Any other duties as may arise from time to time allocated by the manager.

KEMRI RCTP / FACES Program Study Coordinator, Study Data Manager and Research Assistants Jobs in Kisumu Kenya

Program Description: The Research Care and Training Program (RCTP) is collaboration between the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI), University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) and University of Washington (UW).
 
RCTP is seeking motivated individuals to fill the following vacancies in Prevalence and Impact of Alcohol Use in Patients Enrolling in HIV Care (PIAUPEHC, “Alcohol & HIV Study”), an East African International Epidemiologic Databases to Evaluate AIDS (IeDEA EA) Project
 
Position: Study Coordinator 
(1 Position)
 
Reports to: The Study Principal Investigator (s)
 
Location: Kisumu, Suba

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Manage the study in line with Kenyan/ KEMRI and US/UCSF laws, regulations and standards
  • Ensure that adequate systems, personnel and necessary resources are in place to conduct the study
  • Train and supervise Data Manager and Research Assistants who conduct study informed consent procedures and AUDIT interviews at health facilities in Lumumba Health Centre and Suba District Hospital (SDH)
  • Coordinate and participate in Study Activation trainings for health facility staff in Lumumba and SDH
  • Work with the Data Manager to ensure accurate and timely collection and cleaning of study data
  • Work with Research Assistants to ensure study participant tracing is conducted and findings are documented well in study tools
  • Provide regular reports and communications regarding study progress to Study Investigators
  • Function as on-site investigator of record for purposes of communication with the IRB
  • General oversight of conduct of research protocols
  • Ensure that all study participants in need of interventions related to alcohol use are referred appropriately for management
Key Requirements:
  • Minimum of Diploma in social sciences, Public Health, Statistics or related field from a recognized university (Degree is preferred)
  • At least 2 years experience in a similar position for Diploma holders and at least 1 year experience for Degree holders
  • Must be computer literate. Able to monitor, gather and evaluate information of broad scope and complexity
  • Have significant research management (public health or clinical studies) experience with superb leadership and communications skills
  • Familiar with qualitative research methods, including in-depth interviewing and focus group discussions
  • Able to provide daily direction to study staff in a dynamic environment
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and communicate with multi-disciplinary teams
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Job Summary: The data clerk will undertake a wide range of standard data processing tasks including data input and production of reports, deal with routine problems arising during the course of data handling and provide linkage between relevant departments and the data department.
 
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Capture and clean up data from the study participant forms
  • Ensure the study data is entered using the REDCAP and Quesgen system
  • Ensure study data is managed in accordance with study protocol and Ethical Review Committee standards.
  • Produce and send the reports to the study coordinator
  • Provide feedback to the data supervisor regarding quality assurance of data, detected deficiencies and corrective action needed in the database
  • Report faults on data processing equipment to the Study Coordinator
  • Maintain the filing system for the study data
  • Ensure confidentiality of the data
  • Ensure data backup is kept to avoid any data loss
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned by the study coordinator
Requirements
  • At least a Certificate in Computer Science or Information Technology
  • At least 1 year experience in handling data in a HIV/AIDS care set-up
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Oversee site level study operations
  • Recruit and obtain informed consent from study subjects
  • Assist with interpretation in Dholuo and Kiswahili for the study Coordinator
  • Administer the AUDIT instrument to all the study participants in a confidential location within the clinic and ensure the results are placed in the participants medical files for use by the Clinical officers for any interventions
  • Collect, confirm and store patient locator information in the participants file
  • Ensure all participants are given a pamphlet on HIV and Alcohol regardless of their responses to the AUDIT instrument.
  • Identify defaulters for tracking in accordance with defaulter management systems and the study protocol; ensure study data collection tools for lost to follow up tracking are utilized for study participants.
  • Ensures the study is carried out in accordance with the protocol and Ethical Review Committee standards.
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
  • Diploma in Community Health, Social Work, Nursing, Clinical medicine or any other related field. Degree holders in the related fields are also encouraged to apply.
  • Post-qualification experience in conducting research will be an advantage
  • Must be keen and attentive to details and have ability to follow instructions and procedures properly.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication required.
  • Fluency of dholuo language is mandatory
  • Must be non-judgmental and flexible to mix with all cadres of people.
  • Applicants must be resident in the different districts in which the study will be conducted and should indicate the district in which they are to work in.
  • Computer Literacy is required.
