Projects Engineer (Containers - Fabrication) Job in Mombasa, Kenya

Company Description

Our client is a leading engineering firm in Mombasa and is seeking to recruit a talented and highly motivated Engineer in the capacity of a Project Engineer (Containers Fabrication Section) as follows:

Job Purpose

Responsible for all technical aspects of the container fabrication Project including preparation of bills of materials, interpreting drawings, making amendments to existing drawings, preparing drawings in AUTO CAD, daily and weekly progress reporting and preparation of schedule of works. 
As a management position working across line functions, this position requires strong engineering background, excellent organizational and interpersonal skills to align various departments towards the goal of the organization.

Job Responsibilities
  • Responsible for preparing designs, calculations, analyses, etc. in accordance with established codes and standards.
  • Responsible for analyzing simple structural members and designing the same with either steel, timber or concrete materials, using both Limit States and Allowable Stress methods.
  • Responsible for reviewing, and interpreting all design drawings, dimensions and calculation analysis.
  • Preparation of bills of materials as per drawing and tender specifications.
  • Interpreting drawings and making amendments to existing drawings to suit revised requirements.
  • Preparing new drawings in AUTO CAD as per client requirements.
  • Coordinate with all persons in interface in preparing daily, progress reports on progress made.
  • Preparation of schedule of works for each task order in MS Project and track actual progress vs plan.
Qualifications
  • Suitable Candidate should Possess a degree in an Engineering discipline from a recognized institution, preferably in Mechanical Engineering and;
  • Experienced in engineering, interior design and drawing – 3D dimensions and Auto Cad
  • Must understand various engineering processes and quality controls e.g. Fabrication, welding, plumbing and technical drawing and basic interior design
  • Must have worked in a busy engineering setup for approximately 3 years.
  • Must be well versed with client management and interaction
  • Must possess good business acumen
  • Must be of good integrity and moral standing.
  • Must understand project costing.

Our client, Fairtrade Africa is seeking to recruit a high calibre, results oriented, experienced and highly skilled professional for the position of Executive Director to be based in the Nairobi office. 
 
The role
 
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the jobholder will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of FTA’s strategy and provide overall organisational leadership and direction. 
S/he will be responsible for creating and maintaining innovative and enthusiastic working environments at all levels of the organisation while providing high quality supervision, line management and support to staff. 
The incumbent will also be responsible for developing and maintaining strategic relationships within the Fairtrade global movement, other NGOs, governments, business and other relevant stakeholders for market access opportunities for producers. 
S/he will be responsible for providing leadership and coordination in planning, budgeting, monitoring and evaluation of FTA programmes in line with system wide priorities and plans and in close collaboration with the Global Operations Team and the Board of Fairtrade International. 
In addition, s/he will drive the implementation of the change programme, providing leadership and support and delivery to agreed timelines, budget and quality while ensuring all stakeholders are fully engaged.  
S/he will also facilitate the strategic integration of FTA to expand access to essential services for its members including the promotion of greater access to technical and market opportunities for improved livelihoods.  
S/he will take lead in developing FTA’s presence and profile in Africa and globally. 
In addition, s/he will implement the decisions of the FTA General Assembly, and the policies and strategies approved by the Board of Directors as well as facilitating the organisational growth of the four regional networks (South, East, West and North Africa) and their governance structures.  

The person
 
The ideal candidate will possess:
  • a Masters Degree in Business, Agriculture, Economics Development Studies or related fields; 
  • proven experience in advancing the cause of sustainability and ethical trade for the benefit of rural communities; 
  • past experience in reporting to a Board at executive management level within an international organisation of similar size and complexity; 
  • demonstrated ability to successfully pursue new market opportunities for producers from Africa; 
  • proven experience of project cycle management, ensuring the delivery of high quality programmes as well as managing internal learning processes across virtual teams;
  • extensive experience of working with donor partnerships including UK, European, African as well as American agency funders; 
  • proven experience in leading professional staff from diverse backgrounds in a manner that enhances their confidence and efficiency, builds their initiative and enables them to function as members of efficient and effective teams; 
  • proven ability to communicate effectively, manage information, execute on plans and ensure accountability; 
  • proven experience in leading change processes within an organisation; 
  • good  track record of developing productive relationships with key government officials and other community leaders;
  • strong negotiation, advocacy and communication including excellent presentation skills; 
  • extensive working experience in Africa; 
  • ability to effectively advocate for trade justice issues in a highly charged political environment; 
  • and willingness to travel extensively in Africa and globally.

As our Finance intern you will be part of the Finance department and work closely with team. 
The intern will be based at the TIS DAI support office in Nairobi.
 
Qualifications and skills sought:
  • Student pursing first degree in Bachelor of Commerce or equivalent.

A group of Hotels in Uganda is looking for a management couple to take over the day to day running of their hotel in Mbale Eastern Uganda from the 1st of July 2013.
This position would suit a couple without children.
 
The ideal couple will have at least 10 years of experience as a management couple in lodges/remote hotels in Africa.
 
He needs to have General Management/F&B & Maintenance experience whilst his partner needs to have Front Office/Rooms Division experience, both needs to have a high degree of financial acumen.
 
Previous new unit opening experience would be preferential or change-management experience and the ability to develop a cohesive team.
 
This will be a two year contract subject to renewal
 
The package offered:
  • Basic salary of $ 5,500 per month structured with 70% paid tax free in dollars with the balance paid in local currency and subject to the ruling tax rate, currently at 30%.
