The Key functions of the Commission include promoting gender and equality and freedom from discrimination principles in accordance with Article 27 of the Constitution and promoting integration of the principles of equality and freedom from discrimination in National and County policies, laws and administrative regulations.

Personal Assistant to Commissioners:

Key Roles and Responsibilities
  • To provide support to the office of the Commissioner administratively and programmatically;
  • To manage the Commissioner Diary;
  • To coordinate, facilitate and attend meetings for the Commissioner;
  • To assist in organizing Commission’s statutory meetings and any other meetings as required;
  • To undertake research on issues to the mandate of the Commission for the Commissioner;
  • To draft opinions for the Commissioner on topical issues as they may arise;
  • To prepare briefs and presentations for the Commissioner;
  • To represent the Commissioner in meetings as may be assigned; and
  • To undertake any other duties which may be assigned to you, from time to time by the Commissioner.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
  • Be a citizen of Kenya;
  • Holds a degree from a recognized University in Kenya in Social Science;
  • Have at least 5-7year a relevant experience in areas of Gender, Management and Administration;
  • Working with the marginalized groups, persons with disabilities and Children will be an added advantage;
  • Very good writing, communication and presentation skills;
  • Good interpersonal and people management skills;

Legal Officers:

Key Roles and Responsibilities
  • Advising and representing the Commission on legal matters;
  • Ensuring compliance with all legal requirements of the Commission;
  • Formulating, reviewing and following-up of Commissions’ Policies;
  • Contracts, Agreements, MOUs etc;
  • Processing day to day complaints and undertake investigations;
  • Maintaining complaints and investigations files and records;
  • Conducting field visits and planning investigation missions;
  • Designing and facilitating mechanisms for formal hearings and inquiries by the Commission;
  • Ensuring representation of the Commission in court.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
  • Must be a citizen of Kenya;
  • Holder of a Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB) and hold a diploma in Law from Kenya School of Law;
  • Must be an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya;
  • Must be a member of the Law Society of Kenya;
  • At least five (3) years’ experience in legal work;
  • Must exhibit good understanding of human rights and equality and non-discrimination principles;
  • Must demonstrate excellent understanding of the Commission’s mandate that include working with special interest groups including minorities and marginalized persons, women, persons with disabilities and children;
  • Must demonstrate good understanding of the Constitution of Kenya 2010 ;
  • Must possess good report writing and presentation skills;
  • Must have good understanding of organizational and analytical skills;
  • Must be computer literate;
  • A Masters degree will be an added advantage.

Chief Clerical Officer,

This is the highest grade in the cadre of Clerical Officers. 
An officer at this level will be deployed in the National Government State Departments to perform basic administrative and semi-professional tasks in diverse areas within the service. 
Duties and responsibilities will involve assignments in Records Management, Human Resource, Administration and other Technical Units depending on professional training and competencies.

In addition the officer may be assigned duties to:
  • Coordinate Clerical work in a section;

  • Process documents for issue of licenses or certificates under relevant laws.
Requirements for Appointment

For appointment to this grade, an officer must:
  • Have served in the grade of Senior Clerical Officer for at least three (3) years;
