Job purpose:
 
The job holders shall be expected to carry out research, teaching and supervision of students’ projects, theses and dissertations.
 
Reporting:
 
The job holders shall report to their respective Heads of Department (HODs).
 
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • To teach various courses as assigned by the HOD;
  • To conduct research, publish and participate in seminars;
  • To supervise students’ research work;
  • To ensure that quality continuous assessment of students takes place and feedback promptly given to the students;
  • To be available for students and staff for office consultation.
  • To ensure regular review of courses in conformity with quality assurance reports and emerging international best practice;
  • To attend and effectively participate in Departmental, Faculty and University meetings and functions;
  • To actively participate in Department/Faculty/University community service activities;
  • To uphold the good image of the Faculty and the University in the manner in which he or she carries out his or her duties;
  • To be committed to continuous improvement of the Department and Faculty.
  • To perform any other official duties that may be assigned by the Dean, the immediate supervisor and University Management.
Education and Experience:
 
(a) Lecturer
 
Must have a Master’s degree in their area of specialization;
  • Must have a PhD.
Those without PhD should have the following:
  • Should be a PhD candidate;
  • Must have a Master’s degree in their area of specialization;
  • Must have 3 years teaching experience as an Assistant Lecturer (full time) at University level;
  • Should have published at least two (2) articles in referred journals or one University level textbook or at least two (2) book chapters since appointment as Assistant Lecturer;
  • Must have evidence of participation in community service.
(b) Senior Lecturer
  • Should have a PhD in relevant discipline;
  • Must have taught for at least three (3) years in an internationally recognized university since promotion to lecturer;
  • Must have an outstanding record of scholarship and academic leadership as evidenced by at least three (3) publications in scholarly referred journals since promotion to Lecturer;
  • Have at least two (2) presentations at national or international conferences since promotion to lecturer;
  • Supervision of at least four (4) masters theses since promotion to lecturer;
  • Have demonstrated capacity to promote research, teaching and community service in a competitive environment.
(c) Associate Professor
  • Have a PhD in relevant discipline;
  • Must have attained at least the rank of Senior Lecturer with at least seven (7) years experience of teaching in an internationally recognized university;
  • Must have an outstanding record of scholarship and academic leadership as evidenced by at least five (5) publications in scholarly referred journals since promotion to Senior Lecturer;
  • Have at least four (4) presentations at national or international conferences since promotion to Senior Lecturer;
  • Supervision of at least five (5) masters theses and/or PhD dissertations since promotion to Senior Lecturer;
  • Must have taught for at least three (3) years in an internationally recognized university since promotion to Senior Lecturer;
  • Have demonstrated capacity to promote research, teaching and community service in a competitive environment.
The Person(s):
  • Must demonstrate high level of maturity and integrity;
  • Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Have excellent computer skills;
  • Must be able to work with minimum supervision;
  • Be ready to work closely with students.

Summary:     
The Country Director will manage and monitor TMEA's Kenya programme. This includes strategy, planning, and delivery of expected results in the fields of regional trade, infrastructure development, modern customs systems, and institutional development of Government institutions. 
The Country Director will develop an effective programme in line with TMEA's strategic plan, sound management information and monitoring systems, and strong working relationships with Kenyan partners including Government agencies, the private sector, civil society and other East African counterparts.

The Country Director has overall responsibility for managing and delivering expected results from the Business Plan for TMEA’s country operations in Kenya, in line with the medium-term strategic plan. 
S/he will monitor day-to-day country operations in Kenya, including developing and maintaining an effective programme information and monitoring system. 
S/he will also be responsible for developing and maintaining strong working relationships with Kenyan and East African implementing partners, TMEA’s donors and other key stakeholders.
 
Roles and responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain detailed strategy, Annual Business Plans and activity schedules, and procurement plans for each of the agreed output areas of the TMEA country programme.
  • Define terms of reference and provide assistance in sourcing and procuring experts to conduct technical assistance, expert missions, design and baseline studies and training programmes in line with TMEA’s procurement guidelines and procedures.
  • Liaise with the Knowledge and Results Director to develop and maintain a monitoring system for TMEA activities in Kenya in line with the work plan and logical framework.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with Kenyan and East African partners, donors, and other development partners and stakeholders, as well as other relevant projects and initiatives supported by TMEA.
  • Identify opportunities to leverage new investments into TMEA and co-ordinate and scale up support for regional integration at the country level.
  • Develop and implement a communications strategy for TMEA in Kenya in liaison with the TMEA Communications team.
  • Develop and maintain a database of ongoing/pipeline activities in each of the output areas of the TMEA programme.
  • Prepare quarterly project and financial country progress reports and provide updates to the TMEA Programme Investment Committee, the National Oversight Committee (NOC) and the TradeMark Stakeholder Forum. Prepare NOC meetings each quarter.
  • Contribute to the preparation of TMEA annual reports and annual work plans.
  • Ensure good practice monitoring, learning and evaluation is used throughout the programme cycle from design and throughout implementation.
Academic and professional qualifications
  • An undergraduate degree preferably in Economics, Development Studies, International Trade, Planning, Finance or Management. 
  • A post-graduate degree in a related field will be an added advantage.  
Work experience
A minimum of 5 years management experience (3 of them gained in Southern and East African countries, preferably in Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi or Tanzania) in managing economic development co-operation programmes. 
These would be preferably in regional integration, trade facilitation, trade and investment climate reform, transport sector development, and/or institutional reform. 
Strong programme cycle management skills, proven ability in preparing terms of reference and project documents, and monitoring and evaluation skills are essential. 
In addition, the role requires practical experience in project financial management, financial modelling and project information system maintenance.

TMEA is seeking to recruit a high calibre, results-oriented and self-driven experienced finance professional to join our Corporate Services team in the position of Finance Officer. 
Reporting to the Finance Manager, the job holder will be responsible for financial management, preparation of monthly financial reports and reconciliation of accounts.

Job summary
 
The job holder is responsible for financial management, preparation of monthly financial reports for review and reconciliation of statements. 
Roles and responsibilities
  • Ensure that all accounting and reporting functions and processes are carried out with due professional care.
  • Review all invoices and ensure proper coding before posting into Navision.
  • Validate data entries related to payments and receipts for compliance and accuracy before approval and posting.
  • Ensure that reconciliation is prepared for all bank accounts by the 8th of every month and prompt resolution of outstanding or reconciling items.
  • Perform the necessary functions to ensure proper month end closure, including correction of errors and passing of journals.
  • Prepare receivable reports and budget comparison reports for review by the Finance Manager.
  • Conduct petty cash counts on a regular basis.
  • Monitor receivable and vendor account balances to ensure that they reflect correct balances.
  • Assist in the review and posting of budgets into Navision.
  • Participate in the preparation of audit working papers for bother internal and external audits when they arise.
  • Use TMEA’s monitoring, evaluation and learning systems and processes.
  • Perform any other assignment that may be given by the line manager.
Academic and professional qualifications
  • Relevant undergraduate degree preferably a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Certified Public Accountant of Kenya (CPA-K) or equivalent accounting qualification.
Work experience
  • At least 5 years relevant work experience. Additional skills
  • A person of integrity with the ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Excellent proficiency in MS Office applications.
  • Knowledge of an accounting software, preferably Navision.
  • A self motivated individual with the ability to work independently and effectively under minimal supervision.
  • A good team player.
  • Excellent attention to detail with good organisation and problem solving skills. 
This is a contract ending 31 December 2014 with an attractive salary and benefit package.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
 
Under the direct supervision of the programme support coordinator, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties;
  • Coordinate the Programme Recovery/livelihood unit;
  • In conjunction with programme unit devise a strategy for Recovery and Livelihood activities in Somalia;
  • Implement Recovery and Livelihood activities with the strategic framework of WFP and the Somalia Programme;
  • Provide technical support to the Area Offices on the livelihood and implementation of Recovery activities;
  • Ensure training materials and guidelines are kept up to date and in line with country office strategic plan and activities;
  • In consultation with the Recovery focal point, organize for SO and CP Food for Assets (FFA)/Food for Training (FFT)/ Emergency School Feeding (ESF) focal points trainings;
  • Participate in the review of M & E tools and CP reporting formats for FFA (training)/ESF activities;
  • Participate in regular support and supervision at project sites to monitor progress and challenges faced;
  • Participate in the mid-term review and evaluation of projects as necessary;
  • Assist in the follow-up of project completion reports, analysis and compile reports;
  • Maintain an up-to-date database for recovery and livelihood projects;
  • Follow up with the Area Offices for update on the ESFP and FFA/T work plan indicator;
  • Take part in the internal review of project documents;
  • Represent WFP on UNSAS and contribute to development of UNSAS documents;
  • Perform any other tasks related to livelihood and recovery activities.
Minimum Qualifications:
 
Education: University degree with emphasis in one or more of the following disciplines: Economics, Agriculture, International Affairs, Business Administration, Social Sciences, Development Studies or a field relevant to international livelihood assistance.
 
Experience: At least three years of postgraduate professional experience in commerce, business administration, development or food aid support.
 
Knowledge: Training and/or experience utilizing computers, including word processing, spreadsheet and other standard WFP software packages and systems. General knowledge of UN system policies, rules, regulations and procedures governing administration.
 
Language: Fluency in both oral and written communication in English. Fluency in the Somali language will be an added advantage.
