Background
 
The peace agreements signed following the post-election violence in February 2008 explicitly recognized the need for building systematic national and local capacities for conflict management, for establishing new national policies and institutions to address critical issues such as land, reconciliation, and socio-economic inequity, and for harnessing the energies of diverse groups such as women, youth, parliamentarians, traditional elders, communities of faith, and the private sector towards this end. 
In response to these needs, the project, “Supporting Implementation of the Peace Agreements: A Programme Framework for Dialogue and Reconciliation in Kenya in the Aftermath of Elections-related Violence,” strives to engage with a variety of partners at both the national and local levels to promote reconciliation, support the implementation of the peace agreements, and foster inter-communal dialogue as a means to restoring trust and confidence in the public space and contributing towards healing, reconciliation and peacebuilding in the nation. 
This project is implemented by the Peace-building and Conflict Prevention Unit of UNDP-Kenya, whose work contributes towards the Kenya Country Programme Outcomes in the thematic programmatic areas of Conflict Management, Peacebuilding and Reduction of Proliferation of Small Arms and Light Weapons.
 
Job Profile
  • The Programme Officer will support the implementation of the project as per the Project Work Plan;
  • Provide technical expertise in strategic planning regarding project implementation;
  • Within the purview of the Kenya Country Programme Action Plan (CPAP) and partnership strategies, provide direction in the design, development, knowledge-building and monitoring processes of the project;
  • Strengthen capacity of partners in project planning, coordination, and implementation;
  • Propose policy directions and solutions to emerging issues;
  • Manage the monitoring and financial performance of projects to ensure timely delivery of inputs and achievement of targets;
  • Ensure consistency of DEX (direct execution) financial transactions with the project work plan and budget and compliance with standing rules and procedures;
  • Support UNDP resource mobilization by exploring external funding opportunities partnership opportunities, advocate, and present proposals to potential donors;
  • Participate in periodic joint stakeholders’ meetings both internally and externally to review and plan implementation of activities;
  • Promote information campaigns through media and other suitable public fora;
  • Guide the distillation, synthesis, and institutionalization of lessons learned and best practices for relevant Practice Service lines, as well as ensuring the dissemination and availability to peers and partners;
  • Assist in overseeing all financial and contract management processes of the project;
  • Assist in mainstreaming of relevant issues such as Gender, Human Rights, etc. in the implementation of the Project;
  • Monitoring and evaluating the project and ensuring the preparation of audits, annual reviews, mid-term and final evaluations.
Education
  • A Masters Degree in conflict analysis and resolution, peace studies, international relations, political science, social science or a related fields.
Experience
 
1. At least 3 years relevant work experience at the national or international level in the field of peace building and conflict prevention which should include programme management.
 
2. Experience in provision of policy and technical advisory services in the practice area of crisis prevention and recovery to national entities, major donors and professional organizations at national, regional and/or international levels.
 
3. Experience working with UN Agencies would be an added advantage.

Duties and responsibilities:
  • Perform diagnostics on agricultural machinery and equipment and determine what repairing is required
