Background
 
DRC Horn of Africa & Yemen (HOAY) is a fast growing regional programme within the Danish Refugee Council. 
Initial humanitarian aid activities in the region were launched in Somaliland in 1997, and later, in 2005, a regional office was established in Nairobi as a coordination hub for the region, namely Kenya, Somalia, Ethiopia and Yemen. 
DRC HOYA is further engaged in activities in the Great Lakes Region through the Great Lakes Civil Society Project based in in Nairobi, where the regional office is also hosting the Regional Mixed Migration Secretariat (RMMS). 
Today, more than 540 employees work with DRC HOAY, of which the vast majority is local staff. DRC HOAY activities are funded by internal donors and governments, as well as through means from national collections in Denmark.
 
Purpose
 
The needs for strengthened internal and external communication and information sharing have become increasingly imminent with the organizational growth and expanded activities throughout the region. 
The position as regional information and communications adviser was established in 2011 with the objective of developing a regional communications strategy and activities in support of this. 
The production of internal and external publications, press releases, and other information material are among ongoing activities and more initiatives are expected to be launched during 2012. 
The communications intern will be involved in work related to research, drafting and facilitating these initiatives, as well as dissemination of publications and other practical tasks.
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Undertake desk research on topics related to the DRC internal monthly update
  • Research and drafting of articles and fact sheets for various DRC publications and platforms
  • Develop case stories for use on DRC communications platforms
  • Dissemination of publications
  • Assist in administrative tasks
Reporting Arrangements
 
Reports to Regional Information & Communications Advisor.
 
Duration: Starts in June 2012, for 3 months with possibility of extension to 6 months

Person Specifications
  • Educational background within Journalism/Graphic design
  • Experience in writing of journalistic products – articles, case stories
  • Experience with layout and graphic design
  • Proactive self-starter and able to work with minimum supervision.
  • Flexible, enthusiastic and willingness to learn from others.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • An understanding of humanitarian issues in the Horn of Africa region.

Policy, Advocacy & Communications Officer
 
The position:
 
The role is to develop and manage Trócaire Somalia advocacy strategies towards the different stakeholders as well as to prepare and edit different written publications.
 
Competencies:
  • Masters degree in a relevant subject.
  • At least five years’ experience of working with an international organization.
  • Experience of delivering advocacy work in complex and politically sensitive environments.
  • Ability to analyze and summarize complex issues clearly for different audiences.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Computer competency in main Windows applications.
  • Familiarity with global justice, development conflict, peace building, human rights, humanitarian advocacy issues and IHL. Knowledge of the Somalia socio-economic, political and humanitarian environment is desirable.
  • Knowledge of Irish/European government and institutions and policies relating to Somalia is essential.

Trócaire - Finance Officer Job in Mandera Kenya

Finance Officer 
Based in Mandera with regular visits to Nairobi

The Position:

 
The Finance Officer will aim to achieve the strategic and operational goals of the programme by monitoring cash flows and trends, ensure adherence to project budgets by tracking income and expense accounts against budgets, analyzing financial data and preparing financial reports, statements, and projections and by processing the daily financial transactions of the Programme at the Mandera office level. 
Will also be expected to prepare the monthly reconciliation statements of the bank and petty cash, and ensure that transactions are fully supported, approved and properly filed in addition to coordinating programme support activities in Mandera office.
 
Competencies:
  • Bachelors degree in Finance/Accounting or Business Administration, in addition to CPA (III) or ACCA Level II
  • A minimum of five years experience managing budgets for donor funded projects
  • Ability to prepare and present concise and accurate internal financial reports
  • Strong computer skills and a working knowledge of a financial management Software

Trócaire - Monitoring and Evaluation Officer Job in Nairobi Kenya

The position:
 
The primary function of the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer is to lead Trócaire’s monitoring and evaluation of programmes by guiding, supporting and spearheading design and implementation of appropriate and effective M&E systems and procedures that meet Sphere and other minimum standards. 

The M&E Officer will support Trócaire and partner staff in creating and implementing M&E systems that lead to improved programme quality and accountability to participants of our programmes.
 
Competencies:
  • Masters degree or minimum a Bachelor’s degree on related field with at least 3 years of experience in the monitoring, evaluation of development and humanitarian projects.
  • Proven technical skills in data management, M&E and assessment with experience related to monitoring and evaluation of projects with a humanitarian emergency response focus is required.
  • Previous experience in one or more of the following technical areas: health services delivery; health systems strengthening; child health/nutrition; education, livelihoods, or capacity building.
  • Strong understanding of institutional donor rules and regulations for Quality and M&E.
  • Strong computer skills and a working knowledge of statistical software.
