Under the overall guidance of the Officer in Charge (O.I.C.) FAO Somalia and the direct supervision of the Livestock Coordinator, the incumbent will generate information on the current and potential market supply and demand, marketing opportunities and consumer preferences for value added products.
 
In particular, s/he will:
  • Assessing marketed and unmarketed value added livestock products (meats, camel meat sausages, bone craft, soap and Ghee) and their distribution and demand within the country’s main urban centres.
  • Identifying and describing the formal and informal marketing systems (e.g. consumer preferences, actors, routes, volumes, and dynamics, market structure and regulations) for livestock products.
  • Determining the income of the various categories of products to show the structure of costs (including transaction costs), prices, profits and value for money for the various categories of products, as well as the added value obtained and its consumption structure within the general economy.
  • Analyzing the trends and nature of government and other entities’ participation in formal and informal marketing as well as the implications of this involvement on the behaviour and performance of private sector actors.
  • Develop the portfolio of marketing tools and services for meat by- and core products,
  • Evaluate existing practice and opportunities for quality and product standardization.
  • Develop a proposed marketing plan and branding methodology to position livestock products and ensure impact and awareness.
Minimum Requirements
 
Education:
  • Degree or post-graduate diploma in marketing is preferred in particular a Masters in Business Administration (MBA –Marketing Option),
  • Specialization in agricultural sciences from a recognized university.
Work Experience:
  • 10 years specialised marketing for a range of edible and non edible products,
  • Ability to develop and implement business plans.
Languages: Strong written and spoken English and Somali language skills.
 
Selection Criteria
  • Demonstrated skill in marketing;
  • Computer Skills;
  • Extent of both oral and written communication skills, including ability to write reports;
  • Good working knowledge (level C) of English and knowledge of the duty station language.

Job Objective

The overall responsibility of the WASH project officer is to ensure planned project interventions are implemented according to regulation and standards of Islamic relief, donor guidelines and local IDP leader. 
She/he makes sure that the project interventions are coordinated among the communities, and other humanitarian agencies which are now operational regions of Somalia. 

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Review existing level of hygiene and sanitation knowledge, attitude and practice among IDPs and host communities to implement need based intervention on continual basis
  • Prepare detailed project implementation plan in consultation with WASH Coordinator in the course of project duration , present revised plans  as and when required as part of remedial action if the project implementation strategy requires redirection, change of location or any other reasons
  • Locate project sites in consultation with local IDP leaders, community representatives and other agencies.
  • Implement the project activities when detailed plans are approved by the WASH Coordinator
  • Mobilise Camp committee members and the IDP community for the implementation of the sanitation and hygiene project intervention
  • Ensure all WASH project activities in the camps are implemented in a consultative and participative manner. This involves community participation in planning and launching sanitation and hygiene education and  campaigns, and monitoring results through their representatives
  • Effectively guide, oversee and monitor IR WASH Project activities; report on findings with clear recommendations and take corrective actions when necessary
  • Ensure that regular WASH progress reports are accurate and are submitted on time
  • Assist in planning, organizing and facilitation of the various WASH trainings
  • Take lead in conducting case studies and assessments before and after the project implementation stages and report as deemed necessary
  • Carry out field data collection and compilation for all WASH projects
  • Provide leadership in conducting hygiene promotion and awareness campaigns in the camps
  • Supervise latrine construction activities and ensure quality control for the construction works
  • Carry out other tasks and assignments as required by the immediate supervisor
Essential Knowledge, Skills and Competencies:
  • Relevant qualification in water and sanitation and/or public health
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant work experience in implementation of water and sanitation projects. Those with experience in  latrine construction and supervision  in emergency setup  including working in IDP camps in insecure environments will have an added advantage
  • Good Project Management skills
  • Good analytical and report writing skills
  • Good computer skills, particularly use of Microsoft Word, Excel and internet
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, especially with internally displaced people
  • Ability to function well in a team environment
  • Willingness to work in the camps
  • Previous work experience in IDP camps  in Somalia is an added advantage
  • Ability to operate in  a dynamic environment

Job Description

Job Objective


Supervising and overseeing construction and maintenance of water and sanitation facilities including community mobilization and capacity building.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Responsible for all construction and rehabilitation field sites of water and sanitation projects (e.g. tanks/reservoirs, wells/Boreholes, pipeline systems, Tap stands, latrines and waste disposal facilities.).
  • Control and record construction material deliveries, storage and usage at site including verifying the quantity and quality of material deliveries at the construction sites
  • Responsible for correct recording of all deliveries, usage, losses etc. of all material stocks on site (materials, tools, equipment etc.) and ensuring proper documentation is  provided by the contractor and maintained in the respective office files
  • Responsible for ensuring high quality of work is maintained for the realization of the project objectives by ensuring designs and specifications are followed by the contractors
  • Participation and collaboration with the community leaders to sensitize and mobilize the communities and signing of MOUs and other agreements
  • Conduct regular meetings with the community stakeholders (elders, camp committees) about the advancement of the project.
  • Act as a natural link between the communities and IR in cases of complaints, requests, advice etc.
  • Report all problems or abnormalities of any kind at the construction sites to the WASH officer and/or the field team in a timely manner
  • Training and regular follow up of Water Management Committees (WMC) and sanitation committees
  • Participate in integration activities with Health, education and food programs
  • Ensure regular communication of the state of advancement of work to the WASH team through weekly site reports or updates
  • Performs other duties assigned by his/her immediate supervisor
Essential Knowledge, Skills and Competencies
  • Degree/Diploma in water/civil or construction engineering or related field
  • 2 to 3 year’s previous experience in emergencies especially in implementing water and sanitation projects, preferably with refugees and/or IDPs.
  • Have substantial experience in construction of water supply and sanitation projects especially borehole drilling/rehabilitation, water piping systems, reservoir construction, elevated tanks, water distribution points, latrines and waste disposal facilities
  • Good knowledge of community dynamics, mobilization and participation
  • Excellent knowledge of public health and public health promotion
  • Ability to work on your own initiative as well as a part of a team
  • Ability to determine the kind of tools, materials and equipment needed to undertake specific construction tasks
  • Knowledge of spoken  English  would be an advantage
  • Knowledge of Microsoft office applications
  • Good report writing skills.
  • Excellent representation and negotiation skills, diplomacy and patience
  • Sensitivity to cultural differences and ability to work in a variety of cultural contexts.
  • Sympathetic with aims & objectives of Islamic Relief; empathy with and understanding of the basic teachings and values of Islam.
  • Energetic and able to operate in situations which may be arduous.

 The Kenya Yearbook Editorial Board (KYEB) is a State Corporation established through the Kenya Yearbook presidential order of November 2007 and is mandated to facilitate Government Communication services through the annual publication of the Kenya Yearbook. 
The Kenya Yearbook in her efforts to improve its service delivery and achieve operational efficiency, would like to engage the services of a consultancy firm to undertake a job evaluation exercise in order to streamline its structures, systems and processes.

The Scope and Objectives of the Assignment
 
The duration of the assignment is expected to take 40 working days and will cover full time employees of the Board. Specifically, the objective of the assignment will be to streamline its structures, determine the relative worth, complexity and value of each job in the organization and to develop comprehensive grading structure including detailed job descriptions and specifications.
