You will be responsible for building an investment portfolio primarily from among MFIs and financial institutions in the Sub-Saharan Africa region. This will include deal sourcing, credit risk analysis involving due diligence and scoring exercises, and monitoring the portfolio performance.

Requirements: 
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in the assessment and/or debt financing of institutions, preferably from financial institutions or MFIs; 
  • a degree in economics, business administration, finance or a related field; knowledge of English and French with 1-2 additional African languages; 
  • excellent writing and presentation skills; flexible and self-reliant personality with good intercultural skills; 
  • interest in and enthusiasm for social investments of portfolio debt investments as well as of the markets in Sub-Saharan Africa.

NRC - Project Officer Job in Kenya

 Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) has been present in Somalia since early 2004 and has since expanded its programme to Kenya in 2006 and to Ethiopia in 2011. 

Since 2004, the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) has demonstrated a regional competence and expertise in working with displaced populations. 

NRC has mainly focused on Somalis who are displaced by the ongoing conflict and more recently by the drought and famine. 

The Regional Office is based in Nairobi, Kenya with offices and operations in Somalia (Puntland, Somaliland and Mogadishu), Kenya (Dadaab and Molo) and Ethiopia (Addis Ababa and Dolo Ado).

Position Vacant: Project Officer – Food Security & Distribution (1 Position)
Reporting to: Project Manager – Food Security & Distribution
Duty Station: Dadaab
Duration of Contract: ASAP to 31st December 2012 (with possible extension)

Main Responsibilities & Responsibilities
  • Support the development, implementation and monitoring of the General Food distribution project and Food Security and distribution sector activities
  • Manage general food distribution project activities including storage, movement and distribution at the refugee camps with the support of Project Assistants
  • Supervise the GFD team and report on the general food distribution project activities.
  • Provide required project and progress reports, both narrative and financial, to Project Manager and donors, including the weekly, bi-weekly and monthly reports. Assist with preparation of proposals & budgets.
  • Liaison with relevant authorities and communities at field level
  • Develop M&E tools together with the Project Manager, M&E Officer and Project Assistants
  • Assist the Project assistants and project staff in carrying out the daily activities, supervise them and assist them in collection of the M&E data and provide the required data to Project Manager and M&E Officer
  • Design the post distribution and baseline survey forms/tools and conduct/supervise the survey
  • Based on needs, design training contents and methodology according to the guidelines given by the PM ensuring that appropriate measurement criteria relating to input, process, output and outcomes are in place.
  • Ensure overall quality assurance and control of all FSD project activities
  • In liaison with the Project Manager ensure that financial, administration and logistic requirements of the project are arranged
  • Any other assignment as may be required/assigned by the PM.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience required:
  • Degree in Social sciences with focus/background on food security and supply / logistics and livelihoods or related area
  • Minimum 3 year experience in relevant field, preferably in a refugee setup
  • Ability to work independently in a result oriented multi-tasking and multi-cultural environment and manage conflicting priorities.
  • Excellent communication (spoken and written) skills, including the ability to explain and present technical information and write good reports
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain effective partnerships and working relations with sensitivity and respect for diversity.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English is essential; fluency in Somali or Kiswahili is highly desirable.
  • Ability to work and live in a fairly insecure and harsh environment.
  • Keen in ensuring accuracy and precision in all his/her works.
  • Good understanding of various donors’ requirements

European Union Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Kenya

1. The Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Kenya, Somalia Unit announces the vacant position of a Field Officer to be based in Somalia (there are currently three EU Field Offices in Somalia:
Mogadishu, Garowe and Hargeisa).

2. Duties

The role of the Field Officer is to facilitate the effective implementation of the European Union’s assistance programme in Somalia under the direction of the Somalia Unit management.

3. Main responsibilities
  • Managing the administration, imprest local accounts, staff, equipment and security of the office as per the Standard Operating Procedures, Security Plan, and Contingency Plan for the EU Field Offices as revised and in line with the rules mentioned in the EU Practical Guide for Programme estimates;
  • Maintaining regular contact with local authorities, non-state actors, EU implementing partners and other agencies operating in the region and report to the Somalia Unit;
  • Support monitoring and reporting on the implementation of EU funded programmes and projects in the region, advising and following up on progress towards results and partners’ compliance with administrative requirements such as tendering and visibility;
  • Promoting, supporting and where necessary facilitating co-ordination both among EU implementing partners and other agencies operating in the region, and between those partners and agencies and the local authorities and non-state actors;
  • Providing regular information to the Somalia Unit through a variety of reporting tools on EU funded programmes and partners;
  • Providing logistical support and information to EU staff, officials of the EU Member States, EU authorities and consultants visiting the region;
  • The Field Officer is the Security Focal Point in the area of responsibility.
  • The Field Officer will travel regularly within Somalia and may be required to conduct specific missions elsewhere.
  • The field officer will undertake any other Field Office related activities assigned to her/him by the Somalia Unit management.
4. Required Qualifications
  • University level or higher diploma education
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience of which 2 in Somalia
  • Excellent understanding of the current Somali political and socio-economic context is mandatory
  • Experience in the areas of project management, office management and financial administration
  • Experience in development co-operation with institutions, particularly government agencies, professional associations, international agencies, and international NGOs;
  • Ability to work within a heterogeneous socio-political environment and in areas of civil strife;
  • Excellent command of English; knowledge of Somali language will be consider an asset.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • High level of flexibility to work under pressure

The contract is initially for a probationary period of 6 months with the possibility of renewal on annual basis.

  • Developing and reviewing on a continuous basis the training policies for legal staff to ensure relevance and adherence to the laid down official policies and guidelines.

  • Have been admitted to the Roll of Advocates, with at least six(6) years active and uninterrupted post admission experience in legal practice
  • A Master’s degree in Law, or any other social science from a recognized institution. Specialization in criminal law or intellectual property law is an added advantage.
