BBC Monitoring, Karen, Nairobi - Monitoring Journalist (Editorial) Job IN kENYA

BBC Monitoring’s Nairobi office is responsible for gathering news and information from the mass media across Africa and the Middle East around the clock. It also provides analyses, roundups, profiles and backgrounders on the key developments in the region.

We are seeking to engage an experienced editor with an excellent command of the English language and a second language, which may be Arabic, Somali, French or Tigrigna/Amharic, both written and spoken.

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate the ability to work under pressure as part of a team, and a willingness to work shifts, including nights and weekends. Ability to handle social media is a must.

Job Requirements
  • Degree in journalism or mass communication from a recognized university
  • At least three years professional experience
  • Ability to demonstrate sharp editorial skills
  • Excellent knowledge of news and international affairs
  • Passion for regional affairs, especially Middle East, Sudan, Somalia, Horn of Africa
  • Excellent social media and computer skills
  • Excellent planning and coordination skills
  • Excellent people and teamwork skills
Short-listed candidates will be required to sit editorial, language proficiency and general knowledge tests at our BBC Monitoring, Karen offices.

Senior Project Manager Job in Kenya

A leading construction company in the region is seeking to recruit for the position of senior projects manager, who will be responsible for ensuring end to end successful delivery of the company’s services to clients, ensuring outcomes that are high quality, innovative and user friendly.

The successful job holder will primarily be based in Nairobi, with frequent travel within the region depending on job requirements.

Reporting to the General Manager, the candidate will have the overall responsibility of promoting and developing effective service to clients.

The job holder will also be accountable for the projects team.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Planning and managing projects ensuring that they are delivered on time and on budget.
  • Assessing client needs and relevance of specifications
  • Ensuring that key decisions are made within the program guidelines and timelines;
  • Overall client relationship management
  • Providing regular briefings on status of projects to management
  • Maintaining professionalism, delivering service, being available at all times while ensuring the company’s quality standards are met.
The successful job holder will hold a degree in building / civil construction and a minimum of 10 years work experience in a busy construction company or QS firm with a successful record and references of the same. Experience in Interior construction will be an added advantage.

TechnoServe Consultancy - Opportunity to Conduct Performance Assessment for Target Businesses in Kenya and Uganda

TechnoServe, Inc. is an international non-profit development organization founded in 1968. Its mission is to help entrepreneurial men and women in poor rural areas of the developing world to build businesses that create jobs, income and economic opportunity for their families, their communities and their countries.

TechnoServe is working with Heifer International and the International Livestock Research Institute to implement the East Africa Dairy Development Program (EADD) in targeted districts in Uganda, Rwanda and Kenya.

TechnoServe is seeking an independent assessor to conduct performance assessment for target businesses in Kenya and Uganda. The consultant will use the internally developed performance evaluation tool for data collection.

The overall objectives of this assessment are; improve reliability of business performance evaluation results and enhance/improve effectiveness/reliability of the internally developed tool.

The consultant’s key activities will cover the following;
  • Develop assessment plan
  • Collect business hub data
  • Enter, clean and analyze data
  • Develop assessment report
Qualified consultant should have the following qualifications and skills;
  • 5 years experience in consulting/ monitoring and evaluation/ research/business assessment
  • Capacity to manage complex and large assignments
  • Strong and available team with excellent analytical (both quantitative and qualitative), communication and information-gathering skills
  • Strong writing/reporting and PowerPoint presentation skills
  • Past experience in dairy/farmer organizations an advantage
