International Medical Corps - Technical Director Job in Kenya

Duties and Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the Kenya Country Director,the Technical Director will:
• Act as the overall technical lead for all programs; oversee the work of the senior technical staff. Ensure that the work of each technical area is coordinated at all levels.Provide technical and operational guidance and oversight to all program activities, specifically CDC-funded HIV and TB Programs and act as Principal Investigator (PI);
  • Serve as team leader charged with the day-to-day execution of programs; undertake the timely deployment of program needs to ensure program success and attainment of desired results/indicators.
  • Oversee the production, review, analysis, and evaluation of technical reports including the preparation of technical and programmatic reports to donors,implementation plans, abstracts and manuscripts, etc and other relevant materials and facilitate dissemination of good practices;
  • Work closely with the donors to ensure compliance with programmatic targets and deliverables;
  • Coordinate and oversee the collection of data and other M&E processes, in collaboration with the M&E team;
  • Development of capacity building strategies to enhance program quality, coordination, sound monitoring and evaluation;
  • Actively identify and pursue new opportunities and lead program development activities by developing and technically reviewing program and grant proposals;
  • Provide support in facilitating technical collaboration and coordination activities with the Government, Donors and other NGO partners;
  • Attend sector meetings in Nairobi, and liaise closely with potential partner organizations;
  • Provide operational and technical support, as needed, to additional IMC Programs in Kenya, such as: Nutrition, Water and Sanitation, Primary Health, etc;
  • Conduct regular technical assessment / assistance visits to the program sites throughout Kenya;
  • Backstop the Country Director, if and as needed;
  • Review and adapt International Medical Corps policy and plans as well as national policy and implementation plans linking them to IMC’s response strategies and annual operations plans
Qualifications and Skills
  • MD preferably with an advanced University degree; MPH or PhD
  • A minimum of 7 years of professional experience in developing and managing multi sector programs such as Nutrition, Water and Sanitation, Health including HIV/AIDS and TB prevention and care programs. Experience in developing countries is required.
  • Experience in Kenya and/or in Eastern and Southern Africa region would be an asset;
  • Knowledge of and experience in working with USAID, CDC, BPRM, ECHO, DFID, UN agencies, private, international, national and/or local partners and other government agencies;
  • Knowledge of PEPFAR Grants;
  • Proven Strong leadership skills and experience in leading and/or facilitating a multidisciplinary team;
  • Excellent communication skills to liaise, negotiate and advocate with the Government, donors/potential donors and key stakeholders including with other implementing agencies;
  • Proven ability to write technical reports, reviews, program/project documents, concept notes/proposals and conduct presentations by clearly formulating/articulating positions on issues and defending recommendations;
  • Ability to multitask and handle competing priorities;
  • Fluency in written and spoken English;
  • Proficiency in MS Office;
  • Cultural sensitivity

Key duties and responsibilities:
  • Implement internal controls, policies and procedures to ensure compliance with procurement control procedures.
  • Receive approved requisitions and prepare and dispatch local purchase orders (LPOs) as needed for provisions and follow-up to ensure timely delivery.
  • Ensure quality products and services are sourced and supplied at the best prices and generate purchase reports as required.
  • Monitor unfilled orders and if necessary consult the Senior Procurement Officer for guidance on alternative suppliers.
  • Verify bills/invoices against orders before forwarding for authorisation and for payment.
  • Participate in conducting regular market surveys on prices.
  • Maintain and update records including files, supplier/contractor databases, and contract documents.

Skills, Experience & Academic Qualifications
  • A degree in Business Administration with specialization in supply chain management or a relevant field

  • Must be a Member of the Kenya Institute of Supplies Management (KISM) or a recognized procurement professional body.

Key duties and responsibilities:
  • Assists in the preparation of Request for Quotation (RFQ), tender documents, contractual agreements and purchase orders in accordance with KNCHR procurement guidelines.
  • Assists in maintaining and managing good supplier relationships.
  • Assists in market surveys for the latest market price trends and conditions.
  • Assists in ensuring that accurate procurement records are maintained, including all actions and documents for Safeguards the integrity of procurement documents, upholding confidentiality and privacy in the course of duty.
  • Follow up, preparing and availing reports on pending purchase orders/activities on demand.
  • Assisting supplier performance evaluation and rating and recommend action on poor performance.
  • Coordinate the receiving and inspection of goods and services
  • Assists in handling supplier payment documents in liaison with stores and Accounts.
  • Performing any other delegated assignments as required.
Skills, Experience & Academic Qualifications
  • A Higher Diploma or Diploma in purchasing and supplies management- CIPS LEVEL 4 or any equivalent from a recognized
  • At least one year post qualification continuous experience in similar role.
  • Be a member of a Kenya Institute of Supplies Management institute..
  • Be conversant with the Public Procurement Act and Regulations
  • Computer literacy especially Microsoft word processing and spreadsheet.

I am looking for a Tours and Travel Consultant to work with me at my Tours and Travel Agency.

This person must be a creative thinker, able to translate a client brief into an interesting and amazing tour itinerary.

Someone who can look at a brief / quote request from a client and see opportunities in it that can bring in more value to the clients' holiday experiences.

Typically, I will be interested in someone who has been in the industry for at least 5 years and is experienced in booking tickets through the Galileo system.

Most importantly, the person should be interested in current affairs and should be well versed on current events, trends and happenings around the world and can then translate these into exciting tour packages and escapades that will be sold to discerning clients.

Their responsibilities / activities on a daily basis would be;
  • Responding and following up on client requests;
  • Issuing tickets and booking accommodation;
  • Researching, developing and creating interesting holiday packages to be sold to various clients including companies, groups and individuals;
  • selling holiday and travel products to customers; through anticipating the needs of the clients ;
  • meeting sales targets as set out by the travel agency manager;
  • dealing with complicated customer itineraries and translating them in a way that the customer understands them;
  • handling customer orders and payments;
  • liaising with tour operators and other key partners such as hotels and airlines regarding bookings and schedules;
  • undertaking general administration;
  • advising clients about passports, vaccinations, visas, foreign currency, travel insurance, car parking, car hire abroad and excursions in resorts;
  • dealing with complaints and responding to the clients in a way that they feel heard/vilified;
  • using and updating IT skills, since information on holiday packages and bookings is usually accessed via a network;
  • Organising displays of promotional material.
