Senior Program Associate – Reproductive Health / Family Planning (RH/FP)

The Senior Program Associate will provide technical assistance and build capacity to improve health commodity and pharmaceutical management systems in Kenya as a RH/FP team leader working under the supervision of the Deputy Chief of Party.

The Senior Program Associate (SPA) will support the provision of MSH/HCSM technical assistance to the Division of Reproductive Health (DRH) and other stakeholders in planning, coordinating, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating activities, with special attention to health commodity management and pharmaceutical services.

The SPA will also coordinate the implementation of RH/RP activities in the regions at district and facility level in collaboration with regional HCSM staff.

Applicants must possess a relevant academic degree or equivalent, relevant, professional training with significant experience in public health, health commodity logistics management systems, forecasting and quantification.

Qualification in health sciences, public health or pharmacy is preferred.

He / She must have strong familiarity and experience with implementing public health programs and/or health system strengthening interventions.

Knowledge of and/or experience in RH/FP interventions and public health management issues in developing country context is required.

Candidates must demonstrate ability and willingness to travel periodically within Kenya.

Thorough understanding of the Kenya public health sector is required for this position.

Senior Laboratory Systems Strengthening Specialist

The Senior Laboratory Systems Strengthening Specialist works with a team of public health
professionals to strengthen laboratory systems and services in Kenya, with the aim of supporting
and improving HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria programs.

He/she participates in conducting assessments, and in the design, training, testing, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of laboratory and point-of-care diagnostic services and systems.

He/she participates in stakeholder technical working groups and meetings that continuously advocate for evidence- based standardization and harmonization of laboratory tests, methods and equipment within the national system.

Applicant will possess a minimum of Bachelor of Science or Medical degree, plus a relevant higher qualification, e.g. Master’s degree in medical microbiology, pathology, public health or related field.

Registration with the appropriate regulatory authority such as the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians’ and Technologists’ Board ((KMLTTB) or Kenya Medical Practioners and Dentists Board (KMPDB) is mandatory.

In addition the applicant needs to have at least ten (10) years experience working in a laboratory services setting of which 5 years should have been in a laboratory management position.

Working from Nairobi, Kenya, reporting to the Director General, Resource Development, you will be responsible for planning and implementing all aspects of fundraising in East Africa.

This will include annual funds as well as multi-year major gifts initiatives as part of an overall University campaign.

Specifically you will:
  • work with individual fundraising committees of the University to develop and implement an integrated annual and multi-year funds raising plan
  • develop and direct a comprehensive annual and long term effort for the University in East Africa to identify, qualify, cultivate and solicit support from prospective donors who may be individuals, corporations or foundations
  • assist in the creation, management, and implementation of an annual donor stewardship plan including an annual fundraiser event
  • work with the Director General and faculty leadership to develop, implement, track and report on donor-funded projects
  • collaborate with other Resource Development staff and faculty in mobilising resources to accomplish fundraising goals
  • manage the prospect and donor database; individual donor relations files; fund raising schedule and budget; and other administrative tasks.
The successful candidate for appointment to this position must demonstrate the following clear competencies, strong past results, self-drive and objectivity.

S/he should have excellent insight into public/private fund development, the workings of individual giving, corporate social responsibility funding and philanthropy generally.

A Masters degree in Business Administration, Marketing or Communication from an accredited university

Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a major fundraising or other not for profit senior management role relevant to the needs of a higher education institution s fund development

Excellent track record in securing corporate and individual gifts supported by strong experience in developing proposals, fundraising materials, etc

Ability to communicate ideas in a clear and concise manner to a wide variety of audiences

Proven ability to work autonomously and handle prospect identification, multiple solicitation and stewardship activities simultaneously

Highly organised with strong campaign planning, budget management, events production and overall project management skills

Ability to cultivate and work collaboratively with donors, University function heads and various teams

Excellent executive team player ability, with highly developed corporate goals focus, personal results drive and sophisticated interpersonal skills.

As a key member of the programme support team, the Design, Monitoring and Evaluation (DM&E) Coordinator will support delivery of Save the Children’s strategy in Kenya.

Key Accountabilities

The Design Monitoring and Evaluation Coordinator is responsible for oversight and implementation of project monitoring systems to provide reliable information for reporting and planning purposes.

Specifically, the Coordinator will undertake proper data collection, analysis and management to ensure transparency and accountability in tracking project results; assist in design of new projects; conduct assessments, baselines and end lines to measure project outcomes; and give oversight to project monitoring systems.

The DM&E Coordinator will work closely with field programme staff and technical advisors as well as head office DM&E staff.

The DM&E Coordinator will be based in Meru Area Office while supporting visits to other project sites.

Essential Qualifications
  • University Degree in Statistics/Computer Science/Mathematics/Population Studies or related fields; solid understanding and interest in M&E systems
  • At least five (5) years work experience on M&E systems in international development
  • Experience in participatory assessment methodologies (PRA/PLA, RRA)
  • Expert proficiency in MS Access, Excel, SPSS, Epi Info; proven data analysis; report writing skills with fluency in written and spoken English and Kiswahili

Work at this level is of limited scope and complexity and is performed under the guidance of
senior officers.

The Laboratory Technologist III is expected to be conversant with the basic principles of laboratory work and should assist senior officers in accomplishing specific assignments.

Duties will include simple analytical work and media maintenance of cultures of insects, bacteria, fungi or other laboratory animals.

For appointment to this grade, candidates must:-

(i) be in possession of at least a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education mean grade “C” with at least C in the relevant science subjects or an approved equivalent qualification; and
