General Manager Job in Kenya

Our client a design institution offering training in clothing construction, fashion and textile as well as interior design courses is seeking to fill the position of a General Manager reporting to the Managing Director

Main Responsibilities

1. Planning
  • Provide leadership and vision to the organization by coordinating the Board and staff in the development of one and three year strategies and plans, and with the evaluation and reporting of progress on plans and needed follow up actions.
  • Oversee preparation of quarterly and annual reports, summarizing progress against plans.
  • Research and write discussion papers, analysis documents and proposals as needed to assist the organization in determining and meeting its long and short term goals, including with innovation, diversification and above all capacity utilization.
2. HR management
  • Recruitment and contracting of company staff;
  • Build staff motivation, engagement and productivity
  • Employee development, including training;
  • Policy development and documentation;
  • Employee relations; disciplinary issues
  • Performance management and improvement systems;
  • Employment and compliance to regulatory concerns and reporting;
  • Company-wide committee facilitation including planning, production, staff and ??
  • Board of Directors, including arranging meetings and agendas, attending and minuting meetings;
3. Business development:
  • Build on the strong ECD brand
  • Manage advertising/promotion opportunities in the media and at venues.
  • Organize the availability of company members for media/PR events as necessary.
  • Oversee content, production and distribution of all marketing and publicity materials (website, social marketing, posters, program, flyers, mail outs, brochures etc) with director, designer and sales manager.
  • Oversee site embellishment to reflect a design institution
  • Seek and manage partnerships and sponsorships with employers, financial institutions, fabric suppliers etc.
  • Capitalize on alumni community

  • New product development; brand diversification
5. Financial management
  • Provide recommendations regarding investments and cash management.
  • Oversee preparation of annual budget, regular variance statements and annual audit.
  • Provide leadership regarding overall financial health of the company.
  • Provide leadership to ensure the long-term financial sustainability of the company.
  • Provide recommendations regarding effective utilization of long and short term debt, including refinancing and purchasing/sales.
  • Provide guidelines on the pricing and costing of courses.
6. Administration management
  • Ensure client and students file integrity (record keeping, document management, analytical information where required, communication notations, etc.).
  • Maintain general oversight and insure accuracy of records.
  • Assist in development of means to increase efficiency and productivity and manage risk.
  • Oversee the cost-effective use of IT systems to support college operations.
  • Oversee the ongoing development of a rich school curriculum that makes full use of available staff, premise and other resources.
Qualifications, experience and personal strengths
  • Degree in Business Administration or a Social Science or equivalent
  • 3 years’ successful experience in a management role. Proof of building and executing strategies; innovation and entrepreneurship; motivating high performance teams
  • A flair for arts and design
  • An interest in the development of young people

Main responsibilities
  • Maintaining and developing code
  • Correct errors by making appropriate changes and then rechecking the program to ensure that the desired results are produced.
  • Conduct trial runs of programs and software applications to be sure they will produce the desired information and that the instructions are correct.
  • Compile and write documentation of program development and subsequent revisions, inserting comments in the coded instructions so others can understand the program.
  • Write, update, and maintain computer programs or software packages to handle specific jobs, such as tracking inventory, storing or retrieving data, or controlling other equipment.
  • Consult with managerial, engineering, and technical personnel to clarify program intent, identify problems, and suggest changes.
  • Perform or direct revision, repair, or expansion of existing programs to increase operating efficiency or adapt to new requirements.
  • Write, analyze, review, and rewrite programs, using work flow chart and diagram, and applying knowledge of computer capabilities, subject matter, and symbolic logic.
  • Write or contribute to instructions or manuals to guide end users.
  • Investigate whether networks, workstations, the central processing unit of the system, and/or peripheral equipment are responding to a program's instructions.
  • Prepare detailed work flow charts and diagrams that describe input, output, and logical operation, and convert them into a series of instructions coded in a computer language.
  • Perform systems analysis and programming tasks to maintain and control the use of computer systems software as a systems programmer.
  • Consult with and assist computer operators or system analysts to define and resolve problems in running computer programs.
  • Assign, coordinate, and review work and activities of programming personnel.
  • Collaborate with computer manufacturers and other users to develop new programming methods.
  • Train subordinates in programming and program coding.

Job Description

One Acre Fund is a rapidly growing organization; increasing the number of sublocations and districts we work in each year.

We are seeking individuals to manager the various complex IT functions of the organization – from setting up and maintaining networks, internet connections for multiple offices, database maintenance etc.

Primary Duties of IT Staff
  • Maintaining all Company Critical Hardware– Servers, Routers, Switches, Access points, PCs, UPS, Printers, Projectors, cameras, and ensuring that IT equipment have service packs installed.
  • Installing and Configuring New IT Equipment – Servers, PCs, Laptops, Phones, Internet modems, Netbooks, Projectors etc
  • Training Staff on IT Applications and Processes - Coordinating with head of departments on identifying training needs and training users on a one to one or on a group basis on usage of various IT systems or applications
  • Select Database Upgrades
  • Preventative Maintenance - Carrying out preventive maintenance on various IT equipment and software
  • Configuring and Troubleshooting Network Clients
  • IT Support - Capturing all user requests as they come in via phone or email on the incidents management system and ensuring users get updates on the status and progress of their requests. Escalating IT calls (Tickets) to administrators and vendors as necessary
  • IT Procurement - Liaising with vendors to ensure that company equipment are serviced and maintained as per SLAs and annual schedules.
  • IT Policy Design - Designing and updating IT policies/procedures on security, configurations, tests, patches, etc
  • Management – This role has the potential to manage 1-2 additional IT staff as experience and department growth necessitates.
  • Miscellaneous - Perform any other duties as assigned by supervisor.
