New KCC - Head of Procurement and Maintenance Engineer

We are seeking to recruit dynamic and result driven persons to fill the following vacant positions.

1. Head of Procurement

Job Purpose: Develop, implement and review all procurement strategies, policies and procedures to provide a best value procurement environment.

Key Result Areas:
  • Managing the tendering and quotation process as well as contract management.
  • Identifying potential cost-saving areas through competitive tendering and negotiations.
  • Ensuring suppliers meet pre-qualifications and comply with the Public Procurement Procedures.
  • Formulation and evaluating of procurement strategies.
  • Leading, training and managing the procurement team towards delivering required results.
  • Provide effective leadership, guidance and expertise in all aspects of procurement
  • Managing the transaction approval processes of requisitions and Purchase Orders.
  • Advising and performing secretarial duties for the Tender Committee
  • Reviewing requirements for materials, especially packaging materials.
  • Any other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.
Candidate Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Procurement and Supplies Management.
  • Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supplies Management (CIPS).
  • Experience in preparation of Tender documents.
  • Must have 7 to 8 years experience in busy procurement environment of which at least (3) must be at senior management level.
Essential Skills:
  • Demonstrate leadership and managerial capabilities.
  • Prior experience managing a department in a busy environment, preferably FMCG
  • Ability to negotiate at the highest levels with suppliers.
  • Exceptional planning and organization skills.
  • Excellent computer skills with wide experience of word documents, Excel spreadsheets (including pivot tables and charts) and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent analytical, communication and negotiation skills.
  • Must be a member of a relevant professional body.
  • Experience in E-Procurement is an added advantage.
2. Maintenance Engineer

Job Purpose: Manage the maintenance and servicing of the company’s plant and machinery.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Overseeing the planning and implementation of maintenance of the company’s machines.
  • Supervising the service and repairs of machines.
  • Liaising with the Projects Engineer on the planning and implementation of projects.
  • Ensuring compliance to the statutory inspections.
  • Ensuring availability of spares parts as well as monitoring stock levels and inventory control.
  • Conducting training of staff and assigning duties.
  • Any other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.
Candidate Qualifications:
  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering from a recognized institution preferably mechanical Engineering.
  • Registered with Engineering Registration Board (ERB)
  • Post graduate qualification in management from a recognized institution will be added advantage.
  • 5 to 6 years’ relevant work experience from a reputed organization with 2 years at a supervisory level.
  • Member of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya
Essential Skills:
  • Administrative, leadership capability, good interpersonal relations and integrity; and Computer knowledge
  • Good Problem Solving Skills
  • Ability to work independently and possesses good interpersonal skills.
  • Good people management and communication skills
  • Ability to develop self and others through coaching.
  • Result oriented, good practical and technical skills

AfriCOG's governance and anti-corruption reform initiative are aimed at addressing the structural causes of Kenya's governance crisis by a knowledgeable citizenry.

AfriCOG houses the Movement for Political Accountability (MOPA) Secretariat, which is a citizens’ oriented movement to empower Kenyans to hold their political leadership accountable.

AfriCOG seeks to recruit a motivated energetic professional to coordinate and support MOPA Program

Scope of the position
  • Provide overall coordination for the MOPA secretariat.
  • Manage partner relations and effectively and efficiently contribute to the management an implementation of programme activities and work plans whilst ensuring compliance with budgetary provisions.

Job Title: Programme Coordinator

Department: Movement for Political Accountability

Contract Period: Yearly renewable based on performance and availability of funds and subject to 3 months’ probation period

Reporting Relationships
  • Direct reporting to the Executive Director
  • Working relationship with AfriCOG programme staff, finance and administration, associates and suppliers
Specific responsibilities of this position include;
  • Set up a project management processes and procedures that meet the organization’s requirements and are in compliance with the requirements of funding partners, Incumbent to consult closely with the Executive Director.
  • Participate in programme development and take charge of the implementation and reporting activities in respect to MOPA programmes. Ensure that reports meet internal and donor/partner information requirements.
  • Manage the MOPA information network and keep all MOPA members on notice and informed on MOPA’s and each other’s’ activities.
  • Identify needs for MOPA members and propose appropriate interventions.
  • Produce and submit progress reports on substantive MOPA activities to Management Committee and AfriCOG.
  • Prepare concept papers, position papers and analytical reports related to MOPA activities
  • Write proposals related to MOPA programmatic work; participate in resource mobilization activities including the preparation of project proposals to existent and potential donors. This task is to be executed in close consultation with ED and Finance and Administration Manager
Within the AfriCOG Research programme activities:
  • Participate in AfriCOG research programmes by providing technical support as and when necessary including peer review of report, editing, and quality control.
  • Provide professional support as necessary to research consultants, task forces, working groups etc, which are involved in the implementation of AfriCOG research work, activities and work plans.
  • Represent AfriCOG in relevant meetings, conferences, seminars etc. as may be determined with your area of work and or as may be determined by ED
  • Supervise and instruct Programme Assistants and Interns to MOPA
  • Carry out any other duties as may be defined by the Executive Director
Minimum Qualification
  • A Master’s degree in social sciences or equivalent from a recognized university
  • Good administrative and communication skills
  • Strong budget management, monitoring and reporting skills
  • Strong planning and organisational skills
Experience
  • At least 3 years experience in similar position in an NGO set up
  • Exposure to and genuine interest in civil society sector
  • Experience in partnership building advocacy and networking
