Purpose of the Position

This position provides financial and administrative services to the regional offices, enters and reconciles regional loan tracking data into the loan tracking and accounting systems.

Specific Duties:
  • Maintain all essential books of accounts.
  • Assist in the preparation of annual regional budgets.
  • Up-date and reconcile all client financial records: passbooks, group records and bank position and enter primary data into the loan tracking and accounting systems.
  • Ensure that loan statements are prepared and dispatched to the clients.
  • Make regular bank reconciliation.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports.
  • Institute necessary measures to prevent fraud and errors which are likely to undermine public confidence in Habitat for Humanity Kenya.
  • Ensure petty cash vouchers arising from expenditure, cheque requests and creditors’ invoices are promptly filed.
  • Prepare monthly operational results, revenue accrued and other reports as may be required by the management from time to time.
  • Prepare region’s budgets, financial statements, cash-flows and any other management accounts.
  • In charge of payments to staff and other parties.
  • Maintain an up to date assets register.
  • Provide administrative services to the regional offices, ensuring that all goods and services needed for the efficient and effective running of the region are available.
  • In the absence of the SFOs and FOs, receive visitors and enter their queries into the Enquiries Register for follow up by the SFOs/FOs.
  • Perform any other related duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Senior Accountant and/or SFO
Qualifications
  • A first degree in Business Administration, Commerce, Arts or a related discipline.
  • Professional accounting qualification to Certified Public Accountant 2 or equivalent.
  • One to two years of experience in a busy accounting environment. Fresh graduate with a proven internship track record or active participation in community affairs will be considered depending on their availability to learn fast on the job.
  • Excellent computer skills especially in excel.
  • Knowledge and experience in key accounting packages like bankers’ realm and sunsystem will be a definite advantage.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in Kiswahili and English.
  • Willingness to live and work in rural settings.

Senior Accountant - Christ is The Answer Ministries (CITAM) - Nairobi, Kenya

Christ is The Answer Ministries (CITAM) seeks to recruit a suitable candidate for the position of Senior Accountant.

The position will be based at Head Office and reports to the Head of Finance.

Job Summary:

This role is tasked with ensuring the integrity of financial information by effectively supervising the day to day origination, processing and capturing of financial data. It also supports production of necessary financial management reports for routine review by management and relevant board committees.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Supervision of Assistant Accountants and Accountants
  • Ensuring continuous accurate origination and capture of financial information
  • Supporting the annual Finance Planning exercise (Budgeting) through provision of relevant information to budget holders for budgeting and preparation of necessary reports for review by the Head of Finance
  • Continuous monitoring and evaluation of Incomes and Expenditures against budget to ensure they are within plan
  • Prepare variance reports for all assemblies, units or departments and hold regular review meetings with appropriate budget managers to get explanations and explore ways of working to budget
  • Continuous checking of the Trial Balance to ensure data accuracy
  • Ensuring general ledger accounts are continuously analyzed and that a monthly audit schedule file is maintained
  • Preparation of management accounts for distribution to the Deacon Board, Finance Committee, the Assemblies, and Business Units for review
  • Approval of routine and corrective journal vouchers
  • Approval of CITAM expenses within set limits
  • Maintenance of a meaningful chart of accounts
  • Ensuring financial records are available for Internal and External Audit
  • Coordinating the monthly end month general ledger closure
  • Ensuring monthly stock takes are carried out and that reports are submitted and captured in the accounting system
Qualifications and Experience:
  • Be a mature born again Christian who is in agreement with the CITAM statement of faith
  • Bachelor of Commerce degree or Business Administration
  • Professional accounting qualifications - CPA (K),ACCA
  • Proven analytical and written presentation skills and ability to communicate to a number of internal and external stakeholders

Due to its continued growth, the Global Disease Detection (GDD) Division program has a vacancy in the Diagnostics & Laboratory Systems (DLSP).

Position: Deputy Lab Director – DLSP MR 11

Location: Kisumu

Reporting to: Laboratory Director - DLSP

Essential Requirements:
  • PhD in Microbiology from a recognized university.
  • Minimum 5 years of senior level experience in microbiological laboratories, 3 years of which should be in clinical or research laboratory
  • Proficiency in computer usage especially Microsoft packages.
  • Must be a registered member of the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technician and Technologists Board

Job Summary:

Serves as the Deputy Laboratory Director for all activities under CDC-Global Disease Detection work in the Level III (IEIP) Bio-Safety Lab Kisumu.

Manages and supervises technical operations at the Diagnostics & Laboratory Systems in Kisian under the leadership of the GDD-DLSP Laboratory Director.

This will involve providing technical guidance on all issues relating to diagnostic and testing.

Major Duties and Responsibilities
  • Manage and supervise operations of the DSLP in Kisumu, including capacity building.
  • Under the direction of the Laboratory Director, supports GDD implementing partners in strengthening existing laboratory infrastructure and service delivery through technical assistance in needs assessment, planning, quality assurance and training.
  • Institutionalization of good laboratory practices in specimen collection & transportation, documentation, testing, reporting, internal quality control processes, procurement and commodities/supplies management based on international requirements for medical laboratories.
  • Ensure that all DLSP projects meet national ethical and CDC IRB approval.
  • As a laboratory procedures expert, provide professional input into planning and/or programming exercises while recommending changes in service provision and/or location of services.
  • Maintain a library of laboratory documents, training materials, guidelines and research protocols used to support DLSP lab projects and be responsible for security of the library.
  • Design and participate in specialized studies as required by the Laboratory Director.
  • Continually research and update on improved testing methodologies and equipment.
  • Coordinate with GDD Epidemiologists and Lab Director to ensure timely reporting of results.
  • Collaborate with Laboratory Director to ensure coordinated response to any suspected disease outbreak in region.
  • Supervise staff working in the DSLP in Kisumu, evaluate and appraise the lab staff.
  • Assist in the recruitment and training of Assistant Research Officers and Laboratory Technologists for DSLP labs in Nairobi and Kisumu.
  • Perform periodic assessment visits to sentinel sites to assess specimen collection, storage, and shipping.
Other Duties as assigned:

The incumbent will participate in other tasks related to the planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of CDC-GDD activities in Kenya as requested by the Lab Director and GDD Director, CDC Kenya.

The incumbent will deliver reports, summaries, papers, oral and written presentations, as requested.

The incumbent will conform to operational practices and procedures already implemented by CDC Kenya, and to be implemented in the future.

Terms of Employment:

Contract for 1 year renewable as per KEMRI scheme of service.

Probation period for the first 3 months.

Remuneration:

Compensation is negotiable within a relevant grade, based on educational levels, relevant experience and demonstrated competency. The salary scheme is based on the KEMRI scales plus supplemental amounts.

Fulltime Faculty, Department of Pathology - Histopathologist

Reporting to the Chair, Department of Pathology, the incumbent will primarily be responsible for the delivery of the Histopathology service requirements including hospital autopsies.

S/he will participate in teaching, research and supervision of post-graduate residents and under-take any other academic and administrative duties as delegated by the Chair of Pathology.

Applicants must possess an MB.ChB and M.Med Path, or equivalent post-graduate qualification (e.g. MD, MRC Path) in pathology with five (5) years relevant experience in service, teaching and research. S/he must also be registered or eligible for registration as a specialist with the Kenya Medical Practitioners’ and Dentists Board (KMPDB).

Fulltime Faculty, Department of Surgery - Ophthalmology

Reporting to the Head of Section of Ophthalmology, the incumbent will provide clinic consultations, attend to eye emergency calls and carry out eye operations.

S/he will attend to ophthalmic emergencies in the Accident and Emergency Department as well as in wards and carry out planned eye surgeries in the Operating theatres as per the approved credentials.

In addition, s/he will perform retinal and anterior segment laser surgeries and ocular diagnostic procedures in the clinic and operating theatres [eg, Flourescein angiography, Retinal photography, EUA etc]. The incumbent should have an interest in subspecialty training in Vitreo-retinal surgery.

Applicants must have Ophthalmology Residency training from a recognized institution and holding specialty recognition/certificate in Ophthalmology.

S/he should be registered or eligible for registration with Kenya Medical Practitioners’ and Dentists board and Fellow of East Africa College of ophthalmology (FEACO) qualification will be an added advantage.
