Senior Interior Designer

Supervisor: Design Director

Position Function

The Senior Interior Designer works collaboratively with the Design Director in developing holistic design strategies for clients’ projects to create fully integrated design packages.

This collaboration puts emphasis on enhancing the clients’ experiences through formulation of designs which are practical, aesthetic, and conducive to intended purposes, such as raising productivity, selling merchandise, or improving life style.

Key Responsibilities
  • Receiving and evaluating briefs from the Projects Division
  • Co-conduct periodic site inspections to ensure design concepts translate into the actual work
  • Participate in design, conceptualization and development
  • Participate in client relationship management.
  • Proactively seek knowledge to stay informed of changes in design and stay abreast of industry trends.
  • Collate, source, assemble and present interior design images, visuals and materials to clients.
  • Ensure that the design theme is in keeping with the cost and timeframes of the projects. To liaise with quantity surveyors and project managers.
  • Manage the Design process
  • To closely liaise with the projects division – ensuring surveys are carried out correctly, participate in setting out project programmes in conjunction with Projects Division
  • Carry out research on designs and collate information that’s relevant to the project
  • Carry out any other duties as required from time to time commensurate with the role.
Professional Qualifications
  • B.A. (Hons) Interior Design, B.A (Graphic Design) B Architecture M.A (Interior Design)
  • 5 years’ relevant work experience
Skills required
  • Have good conceptualization skills, and the ability to develop design concepts into viable design solutions.
  • Should exhibit a strong design flair, with a passion for great design.
  • Demonstrate a high level of initiative and attention to detail
  • Thorough, with a keen eye for and ability to detail
  • Management skills:
  1. Ability to work under pressure and with short time lines, schedule and prioritize projects, accept criticism and other ideas, and possibly supervise other interior designers.
  2. Must be a team player who is a problem solver, enthusiastic, highly motivated and with ability to multi-task.
  3. Interpersonal skills: Must be a people person with ability to interact with other firm’s members.
  • Communication skills: Effective written, drawn and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Goals and results oriented.
  • Be proficient with relevant computer software.

The Project Manager is responsible for ensuring end-to-end successful delivery of the organizations services to clients, ensuring outcomes that are high quality, innovative and user-friendly.

The key functions of this position include project management, client relationship management and team leadership.

The Project Manager balances scope, time, cost and quality while maintaining a positive environment that promotes individual development and high performance standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan: Plan and manage projects ensuring that these are delivered on-time and on-budget.
  • Scope: Assess client needs and relevance of specifications, participate in risk assessment, evaluate scope of project and assess integration of information into a viable design layout. Review deliverables prepared by design team before passing to client and guide customer decisions.
  • Time: Ensuring that key decisions are made within the programme guidelines and timelines.
  • Cost: Ensure client and internal budgets are adhered to while collaborating externally (with sub-consultants) and internally (finance personnel).
  • Quality: Maintain professionalism, deliver service, be available at all times and ensure quality standards are met.
  • Has overall responsibility for Client Relationship Management by managing third-party partner and/or vendor relationships as necessary; and ensuring ongoing client satisfaction by managing peer-level client relationships and resolving issues, while identifying opportunities for improvement and making constructive suggestions to change.
  • Manage risk over the project lifecycle.
  • Ensure the timely finalization of the organization’s and relevant sub-consultants’ engagement modalities
  • Conducting weekly site meetings and supervision for all on-going projects.
  • Ensure key project-wide roles and responsibilities are defined. Ensure the use of best practices and apply lessons learned from previous projects.
  • Managing information processing system and ensure its accuracy and documentation.
  • Ensuring organizations values are carried through in projects by maintaining honesty and transparency in all dealings.
  • Provide regular briefings on status of projects to senior management.

Professional Qualifications
  • B.A. Design or Architecture, Project Management, M. A. Design
  • 5-7 years’ relevant work experience

  • Should exhibit a strong ability to oversee the project management process from end to end, including initiating, planning, executing and closing projects.
  • Management skills:
  1. Has the ability to manage and coordinate the project management process in terms of time, costs, quality, change, risks and issues.
  2. Must be a team leader who is also an effective delegator and is results oriented.
  3. Strong track record in successfully managing staff, clients, consultants and liaising with contractors where applicable

  • Carrying out detailed site surveys and computerizing the collated data.
  • Assisting the design team in the design conceptualization process and preparation of all presentation materials.

  • Compilation of A3 booklets in conjunction with the relevant managers.

Information & Communications Intern – South and Central Somalia

Terms of Reference

Job Title: Information & Communications Intern – South and Central Somalia

Place of Work: Nairobi

Reports to: Area Representative – South and Central Somalia

Reporting to position: N/A

Function Purpose

The Information & Communications Officer is responsible for meeting the information and communication needs of the South and Central Somalia Programme.

The function will ensure the collection, translation/interpretation, approval and dissemination of information and communication products.

S/He will also ensure monitoring and translation of Somali media as required.

This position is being introduced on a 3 months trial basis and will be reviewed after that period for potentially permanent addition to the team.

We would be looking for an intern currently in their final year of study

Key accountabilities
  • Produce the weekly feedback report to the field team and disseminate
  • Support the CSS team with translations of crucial documents as needed
  • Monitor Somali media and submit daily updates to Area Representative and/or others as required
  • Attendance at information sharing meetings and dissemination of information as required
Core Competencies & Qualifications

Essential:
  • Excellent Somali and English language skills, both verbal and written
  • Good computer skills
  • Ability to manage large amounts of information and summarize appropriately
  • Ability to manage sensitive information appropriately
  • Demonstrable interest in Somali context and humanitarian aid
  • Ability to work effectively and calmly in a high-pressure environment and to prioritize and effectively manage assignments in a timely fashion
  • Commitment to humanitarian values and principles.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communication (or final year student)
  • Knowledge/experience in preparation of newsletters, brochures, documents, reports and correspondence
