Project Manager

Ref: ESBU_ PM_ October_2011

Reporting to the Senior Manager Deployment, the successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating projects from initiation to completion; using maximum and effective utilization of project management tools, techniques, and experience, creativity, and management skills, to reach the predetermined objectives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyze project scope and contractual elements, plan, identify and mobilize resources needed.
  • Liaise with relevant technical and customer service teams to plan project work and ensure that the linkages between the various teams capture all the tasks that need to be carried out in a specific project within a specific timeframe, cost budget and quality standard.
  • Execute project implementation schedules and plans and revise them as appropriate to meet changing customer needs.
  • Coordinate and manage all cross functional (cross team) activities & 3rd party roles for project success.
  • Track and manage day-to-day operational, technical and logistical aspects of projects.
  • Identify and mitigate risks.
  • Communicate effectively and regularly to project stakeholders on project plans, schedules and change.
  • Prepare project documentation and review deliverables before handover to client.
  • Conduct service User Acceptance Tests (UAT) prior to project commissioning.
  • Prepare Project Management reports as required from time to time;
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelors Degree in business or Technical field – Engineering or Information Technology from a recognized university;
  • 2 years work experience in project management with experience to line management or senior engineer level;
  • Experience in managing multiple projects (6 – 12 month duration) simultaneously from start to finish;
  • Working knowledge of MS-Project or other standard project management tools an added advantage.
  • Excellent communication, analytical and report writing skills;
Project Management skills
  • Must have the ability to work within strict deadlines with minimum supervision.

Psychosocial Trainers - Terre des hommes Foundation Alinjugur, Garissa, Kenya


Terre des hommes Foundation (Tdh) is an international NGO focussed on Child Rights.

To support the development of its Child Protection programme in Garissa County, Tdh is encouraging applications from Kenyan nationals for the role of:

Psychosocial Trainer 

4 Positions

Ref: Tdh/PT/2011/04

Reporting to: Child Protection Project Manager

Duty station: Alinjugur, Garissa County

Contract duration: 12 months (with 3-month probation period)

Main responsibilities:
  • To be responsible, under the supervision of the Child Protection Project Manager, for all aspects of the implementation of the Psychosocial training support to primary school teachers in Kambioos refugee camp.
  • To develop coordination with schools and communities to ensure safe access to playground facilities
  • To coordinate with the Project Psychosocial counsellor and Child Protection team leaders to ensure regular assessment of community project impacts.
  • To train the Tdh Community Social Learning Centres centre’s animators and children to develop recreational, sports and cultural activities.
Requirements:
  • Minimum diploma-level education in related field (child protection, education, sociology, ECD..).
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in projects supporting children with a CFS, recreation or ECD component
  • Experience as a trainer in related activities
  • Project reporting and evaluation experience.
  • Fluency in English and Kiswahili. Ability to communicate in local dialect is an asset.
  • Willingness to live in Alinjungur.

Programme Assistant Job in Nairobi - WWF Kenya Country Office


WWF - The global conservation organization, Kenya Country Office (KCO), is seeking to recruit a:

Programme Assistant

To be based in Nairobi, Kenya.

Under the supervision of the Conservation Manager, the Programme Assistant will provide technical and policy support to the conservation programme.

S/he will be expected to assist project managers in project planning as well as monitoring and evaluation of progress and reporting of the same.

Major duties will include but not limited to:
  • monitoring by taking the lead in the design and implementation of a monitoring framework to track delivery against KCO goals and objectives;
  • take lead in the analysis of data collected under the monitoring framework for assessment of progress and areas for improvement;
  • provide regularly updated reports to the Conservation Manager on the status of implementation against KCO goals and objectives;
  • provide legal and policy support to the functions of the WWF-KCO Conservation Manager especially on the review of the Wildlife Bill, development of a CBNRM policy, forests policy, general environmental law and policies thereof;
  • assist the Conservation Manager in tracking, consolidating and forwarding of project progress technical reports to WWF International and/or the relevant National Organizations and donors;
  • in close liaison with the Conservation Manager, maintain regular contact with WWF donors and respond to queries and special requests from and within the WWF Network;
  • take lead in M&E training activities for KCO Project staff, including WWF Standards (PPMS) workshops;
  • ensure liaison with field projects and when necessary arrange field supervisory and supportive visits;
  • ensure compliance to reporting schedules and network standards, both internal and external, for all projects and conservation activities.
The incumbent must possess:
  • a University degree in the field of policy/law or natural sciences (conservation, environment, natural resource management, marine, forestry, fisheries, terrestrial ecology, animal sciences);
  • at least 3 years professional experience in project/programme management and/or support role;
  • excellent knowledge of the natural resources related policies, development and conservation community in Kenya;
  • skills in project proposal writing and M&E;
  • excellent written and oral communications skills;
  • possession of reasonable organisational and analytical skills;
  • strong vocational interest in nature conservation;
  • a working knowledge of financial management, especially of projects;
  • excellent inter-personal skills, with the ability to network and to develop and maintain strong relationships with field staff;
  • adaptable, flexible, able to take initiative and prioritize among competing demands;
  • good computer knowledge;
  • adherence to WWF’s values, which are: Optimistic, Engaging, Determined and Knowledgeable;
