Pambazuko Mashinani - Baseline Survey Field Interviewers - Nairobi

Pambazuko Mashinani is a non-profit making organization whose mission is to build the information power & capacity of poor people to connect and engage as participative, change-driving, healthy and dignified citizens in Kenya.

Pambazuko Mashinani strengthens, connects and mobilizes grassroots groups to enhance their leadership, voice and power. Pambazuko Mashinani therefore seeks to recruit Baseline Survey Field Interviewers prior to conducting civic education within Nairobi County.

Introduction to the baseline survey:

Although the new constitution dispensation fertilizes the bond between public participation and transparency, levels of public awareness of its provisions vary along myriad variables across the slums in Nairobi.

This affects their civic engagement and limits their capacity to hold public officials accountable on the basis of specific constitutional provisions.

In this regards, marginalized communities face greater relative challenges in taking advantage of the current Constitution.

This baseline survey aims at collecting data and information that will shed light on the limits of public knowledge of the substance of the constitution in the three chapters: Devolved Government, Representation and legislature and the Executive.

The survey targets population groups in all the eight constituencies in Nairobi in the following specific slum areas: Kasarani Constituency (Korogocho slum), Langata (Soweto East slums), Embakasi (Mukuru kwa Njenga), Westlands ( Deep Sea slums), Starehe (Kosovo slums), Makadara (Marigo-ini slum), Dagoretti (Kawangware slums) and Kamukunji (Kiambiyo Slums).

Research objectives
  1. Collect data and information on public understanding of the select chapters of the current constitution in 8 slum areas representing the 8 constituencies in Nairobi County
  2. Evaluate the impact of public understanding of the constitution on civic engagement and participation with a focus on minority groups
  3. Establish gaps in public knowledge of the constitution which are inimical to empowerment in civic responsibilities
Applicants should fulfill the following conditions:
  • Minimum KCSE certificate holders
  • Experience with conducting baseline surveys among slum dwellers preferred.
  • Be ready to devote his/her full time to the research project.
  • Be fluent in English, Kiswahili and/or local languages.
  • Applicants who hail from the aforementioned slum areas will have an added advantage.
Do you have what it takes to collect data in the above slum areas?

Then kindly email your applications including your day time mobile phone number, cover letter & CV with three contacts of your referees to info@pambazukomashinani.org by 28th October 2011.

Please indicate “Field Interviewer Position' on the subject line of the email.

Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.

Those who will not have heard from us by 31st October 2011 should consider themselves unsuccessful.
