Overview 

While managing a team of procurement and logistics the position holder will be responsible for developing and implementing processes, procedures & controls, Initiating and expediting company specific cost reduction programs by defining innovative procurement strategies, strategizing and optimizing the procurement plan for the company based on projects forecast, preparing the annual materials budget based on the business plan, supervising procurement and logistics staff and managing and negotiating with all vendors.

Duties and responsibilities 
  • Planning, developing, organizing, directing, managing and evaluating the operations and budget of the company.
  • Overseeing, coordinating, and reporting to the Board of Directors on the progress of all activities of shipments, Logistics and local purchases as key procurement functions.
  • Ensuring compliance to all procurement policies and procedures as appropriate thus ensuring an efficient and auditable procurement trail.
  • Overseeing and participating in the timely receipt and distribution of all incoming deliveries according to Company standards.
  • Controlling stock, replenishing from external suppliers and from other sites within the division when necessary.
  • Working with the relevant Project Managers in developing and implementing procurement strategies/project execution plans etc, to ensure the best procurement practice and potential gains to the company.
  • Responsible for strategic purchasing and sourcing initiatives for materials to ensure that the company holds a competitive advantage in the outside supply of goods services.
  • Obtaining approval for such initiatives and the subsequent implementation of the same.
  • Managing negotiations as appointed with potential suppliers, sub-contractors, service providers and procurement agencies (as appropriate) to obtain “assessed bids” in line with or better than project cost allowances and required deliverables.
  • Managing, motivating, encouraging and supervising a team of procurement and Logistics towards achieving desired goal and maximum out come.
Skills and Qualifications Requirements 
  • Minimum of degree in Business Administration/ International business, and a Diploma/Higher Diploma in Procurement/ Supply-chain-management.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible procurement and administration-related experience at the national or international level
  • Advanced skills in the usage of computers and office software packages
  • Analytical and problem solving skills
  • Management of Quality Control Process
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Ability to bring sound decisions
  • Good planning, prioritizing and organizational skills

Background

Helen Keller International (HKI) works to save the sight and lives of the most vulnerable and disadvantaged. Currently HKI is launching a new regional project in Sub-Saharan Africa, titled Reaching Agents of Change (RAC).

The project focuses on enhancing the capacity of African institutions and implementing organizations to generate awareness, obtain funding and effectively implement programs that promote Orange Fleshed Sweet Potato as a means of combating vitamin A deficiency (VAD) and food insecurity.

HKI is seeking a motivated and energetic young professional to coordinate and support advocacy and communication efforts under RAC.

Scope of the Position:

The Advocacy Coordinator will report to and work under the supervision of the Gender and Advocacy Advisor.

The position will be based in Nairobi, Kenya and open citizens of a Sub-Saharan African country.

HKI will not be able to process work visas for this position so only candidates with current authorization to work in Kenya will be considered

Specific responsibilities of the Advocacy Coordinator include:
  • Assist in the overall set-up, coordination and monitoring of the project’s Advocacy component
  • Assist in the preparation and management of budgets and workplans
  • Support editing and finalization of documents including funding proposals and communication materials
  • Support country teams in designing and developing materials to disseminate information on OFSP projects as well as related policy issues
  • Act as focal point for communication between country teams including in-country advocates, staff and other key stakeholders.
  • Set up and manage a Customer Relation Management system (CRM) for management and monitoring of OFSP advocacy contact relations
  • Assist in preparation of reports, presentations, communication and advocacy materials
  • Handle other administrative tasks as needed including correspondences and procurement of goods and services
The following qualifications are required:
  • Proven experience managing projects including development of work plans and budgets, organizing events and work shops
  • Master’s degree with + 4 years professional experience in Business Administration, Management, Communications, Marketing, Public Relations or related field
  • Prior experience working in the agriculture or nutrition sector and knowledge of agriculture, food security and/or public health and nutrition issues in the region
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Good IT Skills – including Microsoft Word (Advanced); Microsoft Excel (Intermediate); Microsoft PowerPoint (Advanced), and good internet skills. Editing and graphics skills and a good grasp of a database software like Microsoft Access and other software are additional advantages.
  • Practical experience with experience with data management including CRMs
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English. Knowledge of French and/or Portuguese an additional advantage.
  • Documented authorization to live and work in Kenya.

The Aga Khan University invites applications from suitably qualified individuals for the following position:

Full Time Faculty - ENT Surgeon
Reporting to the Chair, Department of Surgery and working with the Section Head of Otolaryngology, the Full Time Faculty, ENT Surgeon will participate in the provision of otolaryngology services.

S/he will work within a multi-disciplinary team of doctors and other health professionals to provide efficient and effective Surgical Services. As part of the faculty team, s/he will participate in the teaching and research activities of the Postgraduate Medical Education Program (PGME) in the Department of Surgery.

Applicants for the position should have a Master of Medicine or equivalent medical qualification and be registered with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board.

S/he should have or be eligible for KMP&D Board recognition in ENT Surgery. The successful candidate should be eligible for appropriate surgical privileges in ENT surgery and have teaching and research experience or activities to reflect a strong interest in teaching and research.

Sub-specialty training or a strong demonstrated interest in oncology and/or reconstruction area of ENT is desirable.

Accountant
Reporting to the Manager Finance, the Accountant will be responsible for maintaining the general ledger for AKU entities and ensuring its timely closing.

S/he will also be responsible for grants accounting, monitoring of fixed assets, preparing of various audit schedules and coordination of annual external audit as well as internal and grants audit as and when required. In addition, the incumbent will maintain student fee accounting function for the various AKU entities.

To qualify, you will be a holder of a Bachelors degree in the relevant field, have professional training in ACCA or CPA (K) and a minimum of three years working experience.

You will be required to have excellent communication skills and interpersonal relations as well as good computer accounting skills.
