Program Description:
Research Care and Training Program (RCTP) is collaboration between the
Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI), University of California, San
Francisco (UCSF) and University of Washington (UW).
RCTP leads the
Family AIDS Care and Education Services (FACES) program, a comprehensive
HIV Prevention, Care and Treatment program working in 100 clinics in
Nyanza Province, Kenya.
RCTP
is seeking motivated, proactive individuals to fill the following
positions in the Sustainable East African Research on Community Health
(SEARCH) Study.
SEARCH
is a five-year cluster randomized trial to test whether universal ART
can improve health, Educational, and economic outcomes.
We are going to be conducting a household census in 12 communities and annual multi-disease diagnostic health campaigns.
We will also be supporting ART delivery through FACES clinics.

Job Summary: Provision of ART services based on the SEARCH study protocol at health facilities in the study communities in Suba
Duties and responsibilities include:
- Register, determine, consent/assent study participants and assist with eligibility screening and enrolment of study participants.
- Conduct follow up visit on study participants.
- Conduct physical and medical examinations for study participants.
- Complete case report forms and report all possible SAEs.
- Perform clinical assessment of participants, interpret laboratory results and follow up
- Carry out medical examinations and manage adverse events among study participants.
- To assist with the organization and management of follow-up visits.
- Ensure participants access to standard of care on the control arm.
- Prepare and counsel participants for HAART initiation and prescribe standard regimen as per the study protocol.
- Perform accurate record keeping and check study forms for completeness and accuracy each day.
- Schedule follow-up visits.
- Respond to questions about the study posed by participants and the community.
- Maintain a good relationship with the community and other clinic staff.
- Must develop an in depth understanding of the study’s goals and the logistics required to conduct the study.
- Report problems encountered to study coordinator and consult appropriately.
- Attend meetings related to the study.
- Performs other duties assigned by the study manager and designated supervisors
Education and Prior Work Experience
Required:
- Diploma in clinical medicine and Surgery
- At least one year experience with clinical research
- Minimum 2 years of experience in HIV Clinical Care including anti retroviral
- Experience implementing and supervising research (public health or clinical studies)
- Must be a team player and motivator
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills:
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing in English and Dholuo
- Maintain frequent contact using cell phone, email, and Skype
- Diplomatic with strong leadership skills.
- Keen to detail
- Able to monitor, gather and evaluate information of broad scope and complexity
- Natural ability to multitask, problem solve, and work with others to resolve challenges
- Competent with computer software applications including Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and internet-based applications
- Interest in working in an innovative and demanding environment with extensive travel to rural sites in southern Nyanza Province
- A cover letter stating current work (if applicable), current salary and date available to start work on the project
