Rural Schools Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH) Project
 
The Salvation Army Kenya East Territory WASH Project seeks to recruit a qualified person to the position of construction / field supervisor for a period of one year. 

This is a full time position based at our Territorial Headquarters in Karen, Nairobi and involves travel to the rural areas (Central and Eastern regions of Kenya) approximately 80% of the time.

Position Summary:
 
To supervise field operations of water and sanitation improvements undertaken in the targeted schools, ensuring quality control and effective use of resources.
 
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Supervise the construction of water and sanitation facilities within the targeted schools to ensure quality control (materials and workmanship) and effective use of resources.
  • Train local Artisans to undertake repairs/maintenance of WASH facilities in schools.
  • Train School Management Committees (SMCs) on O&M, record keeping and basic fundraising for O&M.
  • Assist the Water & Sanitation Engineer with the technical aspects of the project. These include and not limited to examining and assessing all plans, designs and budgets for schools’ water and sanitation improvements.
  • Compile and submit regular monitoring reports on all construction works.
Qualifications & Experience:
  • Minimum Diploma in Civil Engineering, building and construction, water Technology/Engineering or Public Health from a recognized institution.
  • Minimum 3 years experience in community WASH interventions. Experience in school WASH will be an added advantage.
  • Ability to organize and facilitate training to both adults and children using the participatory methodologies.
  • Good knowledge of rain water harvesting technologies, VIP latrines and other rural water supply solutions.
  • Excellent computer skills. Knowledge of Auto-CAD is desirable.
  • Fluent written and verbal English and Kiswahili language skills.
  • Must be in sympathy with aims and mission of The Salvation Army.
